May 2013 Recap

Life has been quite busy for the last couple of weeks. You might have noticed that I missed posting last week's OCR Spotlight. There's just too much going on right now and I'm having trouble keeping up. Hence why the recap of last month is just now going up. But better late than never, I guess?

May started off as a good month for games. The second half...not so much.

Games Beaten

-Rocket Knight (PSN)

-BloodRayne: Betrayal (PSN)

For more on those two see this blog here.

-HarmoKnight (3DS)

I got this game from the kind folks here at PixlBit for winning a blog contest and I must say, their enthusiam for this game is totally warranted. It's a ton of fun and the music, which covers styles as disparate as classical and rock, is great. It's a little short but it is a downloadable game, after all, and it does offer quite a bit of replay value for what's there. Highly recommended.

Games Bought

-Labyrinth Legends (PS3) (PS+)

-Borderlands 2 (360)

Thanks to a rewards coupon from GameStop, we paid only $5 for this. That, my friends, is a bargain!

-Polarium (DS)

Got this puzzler for just 99 cents.

-Sleeping Dogs (PS3) (PS+)

-Resident Evil 6 (360)

I know this one gets a lot of hate...and it's mostly deserved...but for the $5 my wife paid for it, I figure I'll just form my own opinion.

-The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA)

About time I played this.

-Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (VC)

I played this SNES gem back in the day but we got a free download of it from Club Nintendo :)

-Nintendo Land (Wii U)

That's right, we bought a Wii U! After we got our tax return, my wife, the bargain hunter, found a complete deluxe model on Cow Boom (a subsidary website of Best Buy) that was opened and returned because of deep stratches on the system. We decided we could live with the cosmetic stratches since it would save us $100 off the retail price. When the system arrived we discovered that the stratches were greatly exaggerated. You can hardly notice them if you're not looking for them. Plus the cords had never been unwound and Nintendo Land was still in the shrink wrap, so it's basically a new system. That's pretty awesome :D

-New Super Mario Bros U (Wii U)

But my wife was't done. She found a new copy of this somewhere...Amazon Warehouse, maybe?...for $30, which is cheaper than it sells for used.

-Super Metroid (Wii U VC)

30 cents!

Now Playing

-Borderlands 2 (360)

This really is about the only thing I've played in the last couple weeks, and not much at that. Well, I have been playing some iOS games but I don't count those here because if they ever become an official part of the backlog, I'm done for lol. But Borderlands 2 is a lot of fun. Playing it with the wife. She likes RPGs and the occasional FPS, so this game is a dream come true for her. Who knows, maybe we'll even buy some DLC (a rarity).

***

So that was it for May and in about two weeks, that'll be it for June. That recap should be much shorter at least lol. Still not caught up here on PixlBit but I'm working on it. Hopefully I'll have more time soon but things will probably still be tight for a while yet.

I was actually thinking about replaying both super metroid and super mario rpg.  I have gotten a nasty itch to play older games recently.

That is certainly an enjoyable itch to scratch though Smile

congrats on your Wii U!  I can't wait to get one of those darn things for Wind Waker!

Saw you got Sleeping Dogs too. That's a cool game.

My wife played through Sleeping Dogs on a rental (a long Redbox rental lol) and I was very impressed with it. Normally open world games don't interest me but I really want to give Sleeping Dogs a try. And the PS+ version came with a bunch of DLC, so that's cool too Smile

Congrats on the Wii U! I've been thinking about getting a 3DS lately. I just don't know if there are enough games that I want for it. I wish Mario RPG wasn't so freaking expensive. Have you seen how much the SNES cart goes for? Money Mouth

*quick internet search* Looks like it can vary from about $25 to a couple hundred! Saw a guy on ebay just now that is selling the box for $90. Just the box lol. My younger brother still has a copy of the original cart. I tell you what, though, I really wish Nintendo would sinc all their digital shops. I'd love to play Super Mario RPG on my 3DS XL. And I definitely think you should invest in a 3DS XL. There are a lot of good games already and the library is only going to grow Smile

Yeah I'm impressed you beat it, too!

Leave it to WayForward to make a BloodRayne game that I will actually play and like.

Minish Cap is an awesome game. Had I not completed it with a rental, I'd own it.

And I have fond memories of watching my friend play Super Mario RPG and occasionally helping (I think). And I envy your Harmoknight, cause that sounds like the type of game I'd buy anyway, but alas, no 3DS.

Then clearly you need a 3DS! Lol. Seriously, though, it would be an excellent investment.

Nice to see you got a Wii U. I hope to get one soon, specially since the E3 lineup of games look great.

Super Mario RPG is excellent. I haven't finished the game, but I loved what I had played, specially since i'm not really an RPG expert.

Even if you're not big into RPGs, all the Mario ones are great. And I guess it's kind of sad but the Wii U game I'm looking forward to most right now is the Director's Cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I loved that game so much when I played it in 2011 and I can't wait to go through the new version with the reworked boss battles. (And I know it's now coming to other systems but it was originally designed for the Wii U and that's where I'd like to play it.) If you're able to get a Wii U soon, what game would you most want?

Watch Dogs, Sonic: Lost World and the new 3D Mario are the ones I could get for the Wii U first. Not counting Smash Bros 4 since that one will be released later.

I know it's a bit late but I'm sure you've noticed the speical sale on Xbox Live this week for all Borderland's 2 DLC. If the copy you got wasn't the GOTY edition, this might be something to look into.

Yeah, we didn't get anything. We're still going through the main game and I'd have to clean somethng off the hard drive, so we didn't bother lol
