Doling out “winners” and “losers” for E3 has always struck me as kind of pointless.  It’s like grading the NFL draft the day after it happens – you don’t really know how well these picks will pan out in the end.  Last year Assassin’s Creed 3 racked up a metric ton of E3 “Game of Show” awards from industry publications, only to be released to a rather tepid critical and consumer reception.  Having a flashy presence at E3 – even with a solid demo - is just as telling as a game that no one notices or even has a subpar showing; it really doesn’t matter.

That being said, it doesn’t mean that we can’t use E3 to gauge the barometer of interest these showings generate.  The games that impressed us may not amount to much, but at least they get us talking about the future.

With this in mind, here are my top 5 most interesting showings of E3 2013 in picture form – test your game knowledge and figure out what they are.  Will these games end up being any good? Who knows, but there’s no hard in getting a little excited about what the future may hold.

Good luck in identifying these games, and be sure to share the games that piqued your interest too!

*Please note I didn't include any games we've seen a TON of, or that are coming out soon.  Only stuff that interests me that I've seen little of, or was newly shown off or announced.

that X games looks sick, and I'm pretty hyped about the new Mario Kart as well.  Bayonetta a little less so; I didn't like the original as a lot of other people did.

Regarding X, you should have seen some of the original images that resulted in that google search.

I agree with all of those except Bayonetta 2, not my kind of jam. No Witcher 3? I implore you sir!

I am excited for Witcher 3, but I'd already seen a bunch on it - nothing to get me more excited than I already was ;)

Yeah, i'm pretty excited Super Smash Bros 4 too. I hope we get more information regarding the game, but I trust Sakurai and Namco on this one, since I like every entry of the series.

I'm also excited to see more of Watch Dogs, Sonic: Lost World and the new 3D Mario game.

Fuck yeah, Mario Kart 8, X, Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash Bros! The rest I could care less about since I wont have a console to play them on till later. But yeah, there was alot of great games shown this year, and it doesn't matter who wins, we the gamers are the ones who win because of all these games.

When I would go to E3 and have to pick 'winners,' you know what I'd always say?  Us gamers are the real winners of E3, because as long as there are fun games for us to look forward to playing, then we're the real winners of the show!

Mario Kart 8 - Will probably be great, but I'm not that interested at the moment.

X - looks awesome, but I don't have a Wii U

Smash Bros. - Mega Man is great, and I like the novelty of the characters like Wii Fit Trainer, but I kind of wish that spot was taken by a Belmont. Oh well, Smash is always amazing, plus there's a 3DS version? Don't have one, but I like handhelds, so might get one; lots of great games already on 3DS.

Bayonetta 2 - Never played the original, but always thought it looked cool.

Destiny - I'm not quite as stoked as everyone else for this, but I also haven't had time to watch those superlong trailers for it before Youtube videos, just the first parts, so ...

I don't know what the other two were.

That's an awesome way to present the list, Jesse! Awesome images! In no particular order, the titles that peaked my interest were:

The Witcher 3, New Yoshi's Island, Duck Tales Remastered, Watch Dogs, Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Mirror's Edge 2, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, Dead Rising 3, Day Z standalone, the Castle of Illusion Remake, and Super Mario 3D World.

I was really hoping for news on a new Red Dead, and a teaser for Fallout 4 wouldn't have hurt, either!

It's ironic that out of the whole of E3, Nintendo gave me more games that I really care about.... who'd have thought eh!
