Games Beaten

-Gears of War 2 (360)

My wife and I started GoW2 over a year and a half ago but never finished it. We were about halfway through or maybe a little more. Finally polished it off. The parts where we split up to go different ways were still a little rough because the AI partners (when we each had one) were next to worthless. But it was still lots of fun. We'll be starting the third one before too long, hopefully.

Games Bought

The sad thing about the following list is that I'm behind on checking for PS+ games lol.

-Hitman: Absolution (PS3) (PS+)

I'm really excited about this one. I've wanted to play a Hitman game ever since the second one came to the GameCube, so getting to play the newest one for free is pretty great Smile

-Assassin's Creed II (360)

Woot for free games for Gold members! If I really like it, though, I'll probably pick up a physical copy at some point. Maybe the ACII collection...but that's later. And maybe.

-Crackdown (360)

Also woot!

-BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (PS3) (PS+)

-Spider-Man: Friend or Foe (PS2)

Got this at Goodwill for $2.50. Supposedly pretty good, if a little too easy. But it's co-op, so I'll be tackling this with the wife sooner or later.

-Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back (PS1)

Another Goodwill purchase. Played the third one on a weekend rental back in the day and enjoyed it. Figured I'd like this one too.

-inFamous (PS3)

-Dante's Inferno (PS3)

-Just Cause 2 (PS3)

Got these three games at a yardsale for $2 apiece. Yep, we're awesome Wink

-WarCraft II (Mac)

Got this at a different yardsale, though I'll have another go at StarCraft before I ever get this.

Now Playing

-Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS)

I really like this game but I haven't been able to play much other than on weekends, so it's been slow going.

-New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)

This has been a ton of fun. Mario's still got it! I know some people don't like the multiplayer—okay, some people really hate it—but I think it's great. My wife and I are on the first level of the final world and it's pretty tough, especially if you try to get the star coins, which we do.

-Mirror's Edge (360)

Playing this for Backlogger's Anonymous, though I think everyone else is already done with it lol. I really like it though.

Loving SMT IV myself but it can get pretty nasty in the difficulty department and this is coming from someone who played 75% of Nocturne without a single party wipe.

I'm caught up in expanding my demon compendium at the moment. Gotta fuse them all you know. :D

One of the things I really like is that I don't have to micromanage my party. Sure, I try to stay on top of fusing my demons so that their levels stay up and they always have skills to learn, but it's really nice not having to worry about equipping armor and weapons for them. I've never been one much for micromanaging. And I haven't had an unexpected party wipe yet...which means that I have to sit through that whole thing before Charon offers to revive you every time. Ugh, so annoying. But that's a small complaint.

I kind of like that the demons level right along with you too. In Soul Hackers the only way to get higher level demons is to fuse.

I want to run, not walk, to go pick up SMTIV right now. Must... resist...

mothman

Resistance is futile. You will be SMT-illated. :)

I was successfully SMT-ilated because I did go out and buy it.

I now have a strange need to go find some demons and convince them to be my friends.

I loved Cortex Strikes Back.  I did put a lot of time into that game, but never actually beat it.  Maybe it was that I did not 100% it.

That's probably it. I assume there must be some doodad to collect. What 3D platformer of that era didn't have something shiny that needed finding? I can't imagine the game is too long otherwise, since I was able to finish the third one over a weekend.

Wow, it sounds like Goodwill and yardsales have some pretty good games, right? I'll have to do the same thing. I love shopping for retro games. I recently picked up copies of Bionic Commando (NES) and Darius Twin (SNES).

Yardsales and thrift stores can be great ways to find old game (and sometimes newer ones!). You just gotta be patient and check frequently. Goodwill doesn't normally have any games worth buying but you never know. Last year my wife picked up Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario Sunshine for $3 apiece in one visit. Pretty awesome! Yardsales are even more hit or miss but it's worth it when you find a great haul like those PS3 games we got. Plus you might find other things you need lol

I got Final Fight CD for Sega CD once at a Thrift Shop. I loved that.

I hate looking through the CDs but you gotta do it. That's where I found Crash Bandicoot 2.

I found Final Fight CD in the case complete. Lucky me.

I need to go to my goodwill and check out what old systems they have.  They might have some awesome stuff!

That's the cool thing about thrift stores, you never know what you'll find. It's worth a look Smile

Who doesn't like the MP in the new Mario games!?

I know there are a few here on Pixlbit. I was kind of hoping they'd come out with their pitchforks but so far no dice. But yeah, what's not to love? When we were kids, wasn't that the most annoying thing, having to wait for your turn while playing "multiplayer" on Mario?

I put in most of my SMT4 playtime at work.  I work 12hr shifts and sometimes they're at night, so I have a lot of down time there.  I'm over 33hrs into the game.  I'm not sure how far I'm in the story though.

daftman

I've had jobs at night before. That's rough. Glad you can make the time worthwhile Wink I'm around 27 hours, I think, and just got to Ikebukuro.

jgusw

09/04/2013 at 09:55 AM

Ikebukuro?  I hadn't got there yet.  I'm really cautious when playing rpgs and I spend a lot of time leveling up and fusing the "perfect" demons.  I hadn't been in Tokyo that long.  Boss battles have been a little easy so far as long as they have a weakness.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who buys more games than they complete in a month (or season, or year, or decade...). I've made some awesome finds at thrift stores. Two Sega Dreamcasts for the price of one, a working Game Gear with four games and a carrying case, an N64 with two controllers. I don't think I've ever scored any good games, though. I have better luck with a local music/movie/games/book store, they have everything and their prices for retro games are set, so it doesn't matter what the game is, it will be the same price as all the other games for that system. Last gen and this gen excepted, of course. I found Vagrant Hearts, Tales of Destiny, and SaGa Frontier 2 for about $10 a piece one fine day.

daftman

I have yet to find a classic system like that. Man, the thought of coming across, like, a complete Sega Saturn for cheap is one of the things that keeps me going lol. But yes, I have way too many games...but that's a nice problem to have Smile

Ranger1

I tell people it's not so much a backlog as an insurance policy. I lived through the video game crash of the 80s, I like to keep my options open, lol.

Get ready to get sucked into Gears of War 3. Me and friend started it November of last year and didn't stop playing it until some time in February this year - three months straight! We did the story missions pretty quickly but Horde mode was an obsession. So much fun. Never got tired of it. We'd still be playing it but I felt like I should start something new. Man, forget about getting every single badge though. Some of those are for the gamers who play nothing else. We're talking 500 + hours worth.

KnightDriver

09/04/2013 at 02:33 PM

Gee, I can count. That's four months straight.

KnightDriver

09/04/2013 at 02:39 PM

And that's medals not badges.

daftman

09/04/2013 at 06:47 PM

Lol. I've heard it's the kind of game you can play indefinitely.

KnightDriver

09/05/2013 at 01:53 AM

pretty much. It's Cliffy B's swan song. The controls are perfect.

I also love the multiplayer in New Super Mario Bros. I can see the hate it receives from some here, but it's just fun to dick around and kill each others, either intentionally or not.

daftman

09/05/2013 at 08:18 PM

Messing with your friends is fun, for sure, but it can also make the game easier. My wife and I have avoided all kinds of deaths (usually from missed or botched jumps) by going into our bubbles at the last moment. And it makes it easier to enjoy with less skilled players. At the same time, the game is still challenging, so it's fun for us more skilled players. Fun for everyone, that's the Nintendo magic!

Crash Bandicoot 2 is short but great. I really hope they reboot this series sometime

daftman

A reboot would sure be interesting. I'm not even sure who holds the rights at this point. Naughty Dog moved on a long time ago.
