$8 Super Nintendo

Went yard saling again Saturday and found a used Super Nintendo with two controllers and all its cords for $8. You can bet we jumped on that! It's all yellowed with age but still works just fine. Unfortunately, someone beat us there and bought all the games but we actually have a couple already. They were my wife's when she was a kid and we've been holding onto them ever since we found them at her parents' house. (Her old SNES is still MIA though.) I've been looking around the internet and there aren't many places around here that sell old games but we'll be checking them out. There's always Craigslist and ebay, I guess, but either way I'm looking forward to some good old fashioned gaming Laughing

Sweet! What games do you have for it? Did you check Amazon? They have some pretty good prices depending on what you want. Some of the more rare SNES games (like Mega Man X3) can fetch ridiculous prices. Money Mouth

We have Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and Top Gear (a racing game that I've never played but my wife is all nostalgic about lol). Whenever I get to visit my parents again, I'll pick up some of my old games that are still there. My younger brother still lives at home and actively plays those old games, so I can't just take them all Undecided

Top Gear is a cool game. Top Gear 3000 was my personal fave in that series.

At $8, though I already own a SNES, I would of picked up that system.  I hadn't touched my SNES or any of my old consoles in years.  I really want to fix that.

Me too. I haven't played any SNES games in a long time. Just a couple rounds of Super Mario Kart showed me how much I miss it.

Very nice man. I think the brown color just makes it look more retro.

I'd prefer the original color but this does have a vintage look to it now lol

Yeah, the best system ever! Hope you find some good games, I'm still building up my SNES collection (tons of great games).

Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting back into it. Plenty of things I never played back in the day Smile

Man, I could play Donkey Kong Country on that thing all day long... wait where is it? Nooo. I don't have the game or the system anymore. Waaa.

I was eyeing one of those combination systems because I don't have a Genesis anymore either.

That's sad, man Frown You need to fix that!

I guess I'm going to play DKC on the Wii Virtual Console, but for that game, yea, I want the original SNES and cartridge. I'm gonna hafta go find one.

You should get one. It's not too late!

That is a steal.  I would be jealous, but I can always walk two blocks down and steal my brother's SNES and all of my games.

Okay, you win Tongue Out

My parents' house is a veritable treasure trove of retro goodness, which my younger brother still uses, but I'll definitely be taking some of it with me the next time I'm able to visit.

Very nice score. Still got mine and I had a back up I bought years ago through Funcoland. Ironicly the back up died before my originalYell. Its the games that are going to cost you. We have a place here called Game & Trade that specialize in retro used games. They had a copy of Eathbound for $179 and a copy of Chronotrigger for $200. They don't even have the box or instructions! I paid $25 for copy of TMNT Turtles in Time, worth every penny though. But not everything is outragously priced. Best bet is probably amazon and ebay.

Dude, that place will probably never sell those games lol not at prices like that. $25 is good for Turtles in Time though. That's a great game. But I won't be breaking the bank for anything in particular.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe if they were in mint condition with the box and instructions, but thats still pretty steep.

I never had a SNES or a NES. I do have one of those combo systems. It's worked for me so far, but I would have grabbed that SNES, too. Amazon is a pretty good source for used games. I'm lucky here in Maine, I know of at least four places within a 30 minute drive that carry retro games.

I have heard of these...combo systems. Does it play Genesis games too? Buying in person is the best but I'm sure I'll be hitting up Amazon sooner or later.

They have a couple of varieties, some have just NES and SNES and others have NES, SNES and Genesis. Be warned that they are on the flimsy side and don't play all games. So far, I've had no problems with mine, but I haven't hooked up since my move.

I will definitely not be breaking the bank for anything lol. And the nice thing about having a smart phone is that I can always check what the game is selling for online.

Hands down my favorite console of all time! Congratulations on that incredible find, and you're certainly off to a solid library foundation with those three titles. Any titles in particular you'll be hunting for?

daftman

09/19/2013 at 06:04 AM

Nothing right away. I've played a lot of the big name games that will be expensive now—Final Fantasy III, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, etc.—but I do want to get Yoshi's Island. I never played that back in the day and there's never been a virtual release of it, so the SNES cart is still the best way to go.

Yoshi's Island is one of my all-time favorites. It really showed what the SNES could do, and the gameplay is awesome. When you come across a copy, definitely snatch it up!

And if you need any more title recommendations, I'd be happy to help! Enjoy your awesome new SNES, bud Smile

Cool, you got a rare yellow NES! Seriously though, that's a good deal. My brother got a NES a long time ago with 20 crappy games for like $20. Must have been a clueless owner at that garage sale!

daftman

That's one of the joy's of yardsaling Smile I just wish we had gotten there earlier so we could have seen what games they'd had.

Good find! I myself found two N64 with A/V and power cables (but no controllers) for 10 dollars total. I didn't get them for I only had enough money for one item in them. more on that later ;)
