Dead Fantasy

I'm sure you're all familiar with machinima series Red vs. Blue. Its creators, Rooster Teeth Productions, have another show called RWBY (pronounced "ruby") that's more of an anime. The first season ended a little while ago but I just now watched the final episode. I was a little disappointed with that episode, particularly the big fight scene, which didn't last nearly long enough in my opinion. So, hungry for more, I looked up Dead Fantasy, a series of fan-made videos by Monty Oum, creator of RWBY, that features the characters of Final Fantasy and Dead or Alive duking it out.

Have you seen this? It's crazy! Oum's style for the fights is the most frenetic yet graceful thing imaginable. It's unrealistic in the extreme but it's amazing to watch. Oum does a great job using everything at the disposal of the characters, including the environment. If you're familiar with the characters, then watching Dead Fantasy is an extra special treat but I think anyone can appreciate the spectacle on display.

A story begins to emerge eventually but it's certainly not the focus. My favorite part is the second one because it has the most characters going at it at once. At least watch through that. This video collects everything available right now, as far as I know, but it does end abruptly in part 6. Oum has promised more is coming but it's been several years since anything has come out. Still, what's there is incredible. Check it out.

If you want to know a little more of the details, this wiki breaks things down pretty well.

Thanks for sharing! I will definitely check this out. From the few minutes I watched it looks insane lol. Is the whole thing fights?

It's mostly fights. Like I said there is some sort of story going on but there's no talking, so it's difficult to know exactly what lol

Insane is a good word for it lol. But also awesome. If you watch long enough, you'll see Ryu Hayabusa Wink

Well, when NSonic79 was posting about it (I think I got the username right, apologies all around if not, I'll edit this later), I liked the fights, but not really the story in RWBY. So this sounds promising.

However, I watched until part of the snow one (I love fight scenes in snowy environments) and was reminded that I get bored by fight scenes with no context, even if these are well directed and choreographed. Oh well. I understand the appeal, though.

Yeah, but Hero is still a favorite of mine. I'd recommend it for fight scenes, although they're less frantic and more poetic than these ones, so other people might get bored.

Hero, as in the Jet Li movie? I've never seen it but I've heard a lot of good things. *quick internet  check* And it's not on Netflix. Poo Undecided

Seems interesting.  If I had more time I'd check it out.

Yeah, it's a little long but you could always watch the parts individually.

aww RWBY. i'm so scattered over how it all ended (for now) that I am ambiliant on my thoughts on the matter. There was so much potential only to see it squandered by...whatever you call that kind of ending and big "reveal" after the end credits.

Now Dead Fantasy on the other hand. Wow, just wow. I remember back in the day when these videos were exclusive to Monty's Gametrailer's account. Anime expos were chomping at the bit to see the next episode. Too bad he probably won't be able to finish his saga. The last we ever saw of the continuation was a test build of a scene were Tifa awakens after her fight with the ninjas. Got to love Tifa as she takes on Ayane like she did. <3

Now if you really want to see something cool, you should check out Haloid, his mashup vs battle between a Halo Spartan and Metroid's Samus Aran. This was the video that got Rooster Teeth's attention on Monty's work.

The RWBY espisodes are simply too short for any meaningful exposition. I'm interested to see where the show goes from here but they really need to lengthen the episodes.

I've seen Haloid before and it's pretty crazy too! It even has its own "big reveal" at the end lol. It's a shame Monty no doubt has no time for this sort of thing anymore.

And dude, did Tifa ever take a beating! Holy cow!
