Games Beaten

-Killzone: Mercenary (Vita)

Mercenary seems to have everything you could ask for in an FPS except for co-op. The single-player campaign isn't terribly long but offers tons of replay value with several difficulty levels and different selectable missions that completely change your approach to each level. There are medals to earn for the different weapons and gear and valor cards to collect for playing well, not to mention the online multiplayer. Oh, and it's gorgeous, with excellent production in every department.

-Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

This game is so good that I'm not sure where to start. It's just bursting with creative ideas. It's not uncommon at all for a cool idea to be used in a single level and never again. There are tons of levels yet the game feels short because it flies by. It's just so much fun. The A/V front is superb too, especially the music (love the real orchestra!) and the multiplayer is the best yet seen in a co-op platformer. Oh, and the cat suit is an excellent addition. Meow!

Games Bought

February was an unusually full month of game purchases for a couple reasons. First, we bought two Humble Bundles. My wife got the Sid Meier Bundle which included Civilization III, IV, and V with all the available DLC, as well as some PC-only titles that I don't have any way of playing right now. She's played some Civ V but I'm not sure when or if I'll ever play those. The other Bundle included Guacamelee! Gold Edition (the reason I wanted the Bundle), Dust: An Elysian Tale, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (though the Mac version is still forthcoming on that one), The Swapper, Monaco, and Antichamber. Starseed Pilgrim and Beatbuddy were added later.

There were a number of free games this month. PlayStation Plus netted me Metro: Last Light (I just need the first game now), Payday 2, and Remember Me for the PS3; Street Fighter X Tekken and ModNation Racers: Road Trip for the Vita; and Resogun and Outlast for PSN on  PS4 (thanks to Pixlbit user Bullet656 for pointing out how to get those through the Sony website). I also got several free PS1 games from a PS4 promotion Sony ran in Home: Destruction Derby, Warhawk, and Twisted Metal. On the 360 I got Dead Island and Toy Soldiers: Cold War (XBLA) free because of my Gold membership. Yeah, Microsoft was completely outdone lol. Oh, and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary was free on the 3DS eShop for a couple days.

We've also already done our taxes and got our refund, and though most of that went to debts or savings, we did buy some games. It didn't hurt that we had a a buy 2 get 1 free coupon for GameStop. We got Super Mario 3D World (which we're still playing the bonus content on), Pikmin 3, Sonic: Lost World, and Super Luigi U for the Wii U; Overlord II for the 360, which completes my collection of that series; and Mega Man Zero Collection and Okamiden, two DS games I've wanted for a while. Last but not least is Silent Hill: Book of Memories, my first physical Vita game, which my wife got me for Valentine's Day Smile

Now Playing

-Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)

I love being back in the Paper Mario universe and I like the sticker system so far, but they removed gaining experience and levels, which makes the combat feel kind of pointless Undecided

-Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

This game has a ton of postgame content. We've already finished one special world and have moved on to a new one.

-God Eater Burst (PSP)

I'm finally starting to get some nicer weapons, though my save data tells me I'm only about 25% through the story.

-Dragon's Crown (PS3)

We need to find the nine magical MacGuffins, er, I mean, runes to proceed with the story.

-Pirate Code (Mac)

After a break through most of February (dang all them BaD blogs!), I'm getting back to ridding the seas of that dastardly Pirate League!

i really wanted to like sticker star but the lack of RPG elements killed it for me.  I found myself avoiding combat.  I loved the music and the story and stuff though.  I want to try Dream Team.

Super Mario 3D world does feel fast, even though there's a lot of it.  It's just so good you don't want it to end.

I've started avoiding combat too lol. I hope to make it through though. We'll see. I wanna get Dream Team. It's on my (mental) list of 3DS games to get. There are just so many good ones. I almost have all the Wii U I games I want from last year though. I recently ordered Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Director's Cut (still waiting for that to arrive) and then I'll just need The Wonderful 101. Unless I'm forgetting something, which is entirely possible lol.

What amazes me about 3D World is how much my wife likes it. We played through New Super Mario Bros U and she liked that but she loves 3D World. Like, if we miss an obvious green star, she wants to go back and replay the level to get it. Crazy! She never cares about stuff like that.

That's a lot of Super Mario 3D World love. I need to get around to playing my Humble Bundle games.

I know. I've gotten probably 80 games from Humble Bundles through the years and played just a small fraction of them. It's just such a crazy good deal.

I just downloaded Remember Me last night. I haven't played it yet but from what I've seen in reviews the world looks really interesting.

Yeah, I hear the game has some problems, but the premise and the world they've built just seems so interesting.

With all the games you have collected, I think there will be a day where it will be the size of jgusw's library.

Need. Wii. U. So. Badly.

Enjoy Dust.

The Wii U might not be performing well at retail but I think it's a great system. You should definitely get one whenever you can swing it financially. I thought of you when I bought Sonic: Lost World lol.

My library...as big as jgusw's one day? Is that possible? Tongue Out

In my opinion, Paper Mario: Sticker Star is the worst of the Mario RPG games.  The sticker item management is too fiddly, and there's no reason to go into battle.  Isn't that what RPGs are all about?

The soundtrack to Gods Eater Burst was done by my favorite game music composer.  That's about all the interest I have in that game.

I don't see how it could be worse than Super Paper Mario. I really did not like that game.

Guacamelee! was great. Probably the best way I can think to describe it is it's like what would happen if Metroid and a Mexican beat em up had a baby lol.

good to hear you got your free games from PS Home. Since episodde 2 started there have been stories of codes not working along with glitches that actually take away some of your collected digital cards, moreso since the new card viewer mode was implimented.

Has there been a second wave of free games? I haven't been into Home since then Undecided

just one actual free PSOne classic title: resident evil director's cut. the rest are just codes for the PS4 game warframe that give you some xp boosts anod other extra freebies in-game. im about to post a walk thru blog of episode 2 since there are some tricky spots in the game.
