Kickstarter Games I'm Excited For

Kickstarter seems to get more flack than praise nowadays. While once it was a way for Tim Schaefer to give an awesome new adventure game, now it feels like people are taking advantage of it more often. To that I say, what the hell do you expect? This is an industry where Dead or Alive 5 Last Round comes with over $100 worth of costume DLC. You give people an idea, they will find a way to exploit it.

But enough negativity, let's focus on something more positive. The awesome looking games we're getting off of Kickstarter. So here's a few I thought deserve more attention.

Hover: Revolt of Gamers

The idea behind this game was all I needed to get excited: Jet Set Radio mixed with Mirror's Edge, taking the style and skating from the former with the traversal and 1st person perspective (though optional) from the latter. And so far they really nailed the look and feel of the JSR franchise, leading me to believe this is the closest thing we'll get to a third installment of the series.

A Hat in Time

A throwback to old school 3D platformers like Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie that looks exactly like Wind Waker? Hell fucking yeah!

Energy Hook

Ever since I played Spider-Man 2 on the original Xbox, I wanted a game that could take that web swinging and expand on it to create a truly incredible game. By removing all the bad stuff from that game and offering trick based gameplay similar to Tony Hawk, I think this game will be the one to do that. Especially since the creator made Spider-Man 2 and Tony Hawk.

Mighty No 9

I'm sure I'll enjoy this on my Vita when it's inevitably free on PS Plus.

Amplitude

While I didn't play the original game, I played the hell out of its spiritual successor Frequency with my friends and am very much looking forward to a new one of these.

Pillars of Eternity

This is like a WRPG wet dream come true. It's a callback to old school isometric WRPGs. And it's being developed by Obsidian, the guys who made my favorite game ever. Even better: this is one of their few games which didn't go through some kind of development hell, whether it be forced to rush Kotor 2, the buggy Fallout Engine New Vegas had, or THQ falling apart before South Park came out. Here, the planets are finally aligning for them to make magic.

While I'm not a fan of the traditional fantasy, these guys always do something really interesting and different with their games. I'm really confident that there will be something here that makes it stand out from all the other fantasy stories out there.

I'm really excited for A Hat in Time, been keeping an eye out for it ever since it was announced. I heard it might come to the Wii U, I hope it does since my pc doesn't run games well.

Don't forget about Adventures of Pip. That may be this year's Shovel Knight.  I'm also looking foward to Mighty No. 9 and Half-Genie Hero.  I really don't do kickstarters, but I'll buy them once they're released.

Haven't heard of Pip before. Looks like it could be good though.

I played it at PAX Prime and PAX South.  I think it'll be good.

I'm excited for all of these except Pillars of Eternity! Just not a big RPG guy, but it does look good for fans of them.

First time I heard of Hover and just having something similar to JSR pretty much made me sold. Looking forward to that.

One of the kickstarters i'm looking forward to is called Hollow Knight (nothing to do with Shovel Knight). It may not look revolutionary or new, but my god is that art and world fantastic.
