Is everyone too busy playing Mario Maker around here? MGV takes quite a significant new direction for the series, I'm surprised anyone has barely mentioned it? Who is playing and does anyone care about the game?

I'm playing on PC. It's pretty fantastic! : 0

Also, Dark Sould 3 beta registration opens tomorrow!

Oh! I'm watching Mario Maker Let's Plays on Twitch, and the rage quitting is pretty entertaining to watch.

On the podcast I tried to record with Blake and his friend, there was mention of batshit story for the first few hours and then quite many more hours of just gameplay. I've been told I don't need to play 3 and 4 before this one, but I still kinda want to.

I saw that Game Grumps posted a Let's Play of Mario Maker. Gonna watch that soon.

Well there is a very riduculously insane prologue/movie that also serves as a sort of tutorial before dropping you into a sandbox that completely changes tone immediately. I've reached the next main area, after the first, and I haven't seen much story at all. It's purely gameplay so far, mostly. There is way more story content very prominently displayed during previous games. Its a pretty radically different direction for the series for sure.

Did something happen to the podcast? I'm interested in hearing you guys talk about phantom pain now, and no, you don't need to play the previous games before this one. It's pretty self contained as far as I've seen. Actually, going back afterwards might help you enjoy it more.

Yeah, I played 1 and 2, so I know how story-focused it usually is.

And yeah, I had a ton of crap happen to me, including a busted laptop charger, Soundcloud deleting my file, and the other guys say they can barely hear me in the recordings they got. Basically, Blake has played them all I think, James hadn't played one until now, and the main points I remember are "flaming whale" and Afghanistan.

Wait, so is that conversation gone forever? Oh no! Cry

I'm sure it'll come up again. We're planning on another podcast.

MGSV is a very lengthy and mechanics focused game. Few people have really absorbed it all yet. Plus, our most frequent bloggers don't seem to be in the habit of talkign about newly released games much.

Ya. After playing through several hours, it would be difficult to discuss any of it without questions or spoilers. It's quite the odd game.

Yes, we're all playing Mario Maker because it's AWESOME!  And why would anyone want to play a new Metal Gear game when Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer comes out in a week. :)

But just for you, i'll write a mini-blog right here on this comment since you are very cool.  I'll write about everything I know about Metal Gear, which isn't much.

When I was a kid I played the first Metal Gear game and its sequel on NES.  I didn't get very far, but I learned much later that they're not 'true' Metal Gear titles so I guess it doesn't matter.  I remember that I liked hiding in the box and riding the truck "that have started to move."

I have a GBA game called Konami Krazy Racers and there are Metal Gear characters and tracks in it.

I actually bought Metal Gear Solid 3 on PS2 when it was on sale because there was an Ape Escape mini-game in it.  There was also a Metal Gear mini-game in Ape Escape 3.  That's all I played in MGS3, but it was the game that got my brother Jeff addicted to the MGS series.

You can play as Solid Snake in one of the Smash Bros. games, but I hardly ever used him becasue...KIRBY!  I did like how Kirby looked when he would copy Snake's abilitiy.

The only thing I know about Metal Gear Solid V si that one of the characters is named Quiet.  I decided that Quiet would be my favorite MGS character because...I like the name!

"Hi, what's your name?"

"I'm Quiet."

"Well that's good to know, but what's your name?"

"I just told you, I'M QUIET!"

"Well you're not being quiet right now."

"YES I AM, I'M ALWAYS QUIET!"

"..."

I think Quiet should have a friend named Noisy.  Or Peace.  So then they could be Noisy and Quiet or Peace & Quiet.

And that's all I know about Metal Gear!  Maybe I can make a Metal Gear level in Mario Maker since you CAN make Mario hide in a box.  But I probably won't do that.  --Cary

I just hadnt gotten around to typing one up yet.

Love MGS V so far.  I just made the mistake of booting up Destiny for a bit the other day.  I might not get back to MGS for a while.

That new Destiny demo pulled me into the level cap non-stop. If I owned the game, I'd be grinding away to end game with a pot of coffee and racoon eyes. It's dangeous!

I read one blog on MGSV so far here. I've been hearing a lot about it on my podcasts. Some have compared the open world environment to the Far Cry series. I'm glad it's getting a lot of positive comments so far.

I sometimes think I should stick more to games with more immediate relevancy for the sake of a greater amount of conversation, but cost always forces me back to older titles. It's hard to keep up with my lousy income.

The cost and time thing is understandable. They game will still be great once the price goes down and it is super long. It is a perfect game for a gaming drought in the winter or summer.

Where are you with Metal Gear games? Are you a fan at all? Just wondering.

I played the original NES one... and MGS 4.  I didn't love 4, but i did like a lot about it.  I'm not a huge fan of the franchise, but MGS5 seems like a game not to be missed.

I'm currently paying MGS5 as well, my favorite game in a loonnnggg time. I think people are busy playing it to write about. I have heard you can easily dump 60-80 hours in the game Surprised

Ya. I'm trying to wrap my head around the whole thing. So much WTF going on, but in a good way. It's pretty fun, and intense sometimes.

Aside from people being busy playing the game, I reckon it also has to do with spoilers.

True. I clicked on a PS4share video of MG and it was a later mission and had stuff in it I was surprised to see, the few seconds that I saw. Spoiled without spoiler tags. It's hard to avoid all of it since a lot of people are playing it. Cry

Being as my OCD causes me to play things in order of release, and I've yet to play any of the MGS games, probably not likely to blog about it any time soon. We need to get GH back to blogging. He's the biggest Metal Gear fan I know.
