Rouge Galaxy is a science fiction rpg, that was developed by Level 5 and published by Sony and was released on January.30.2007 for the playstation 2.

The story begins with Jaster Rouge, a young boy who lived on the planet Rosa as a child. He was raised by a priest named Raul, who is like a father to Jaster. Jasters long time dream is to leave Rosa and explore space. One day a huge beast appears and begins attacking Jasters home town of Salgin. Jaster being an adventurous youth, runs after the beast. He is ambushed by a group of smaller beasts and is aided by a mysterious hooded man. After the battle the hooded man spots two space pirates roaming around town. The hooded man then gives Jaster his weapon called the Desert Seeker, one of the legendary seven star swords. The hooded man scurrys away along the rooftops. With the Desert Seeker in hand , Jaster is mistaken by the two space pirates as a legendary bounty hunter called Desert Claw, the two pirates then help Jaster to defeat the giant monster attacking the town. After the battle the two pirates a robot named Steve and a dwarfish masked man named Simon tell Jasper that there captain Dorgengoa wants to hire Jaster as part of the crew of a pirate ship. And so begins your journey into a huge fascinating world.

The game,s engine features a continuous enviroment with no load time and battles taking place in the overworld in real time. and the graphics look alot like Level 5s Dragon Quest VIII and Dark  Cloud series. The game includes a travel system which is used to relocate to other planets. In order to advance you have to accuire a galactic travel visa to explore all the worlds without it you advance one planet at a time. The battle system is like most traditional western action RPGs, groups of enemies randomly appear while the player roams around the enviroments. The player has the ability to run out of the battle zone to escap, There is no transition between battles and exploring the game world. They also have Tech attacks in which two or more team members combine there abilities into one devastating attack.

Keeping in tradition with Level 5s Dark Cloud series some areas contain puzzles. These can range from the mundane fetching of a key that matches the lock, to more exotic, such as freezing a waterfall then using created platforms to climb it. and unlike Dark Cloud the dungeons are not random, and a word of warning the dungeons in Rouge Galaxy are notably long affairs.

Then theres my favorit part of the game its a mini game called Insecron Tournament and this is where you get a special trap and set them on planets to catch bugs of different kinds, then you train them and use them in a chess like tournament, its a chess like board with turn based combat, its really cool and alot of fun, this game if you explore and all can take well over a 100 hours.

Rouge Galaxy is a stunning rpg, the graphics are fantastic for a ps2 game and I would love for Level 5 to do a HD remake of this game, the music and voice overs are fantastic you can tell they invested some good money into some fantasic actors and the music as well, if you enjoyed Dragon Quest VIII then you will love this and even if you dint you will like this game, its a must have for any playstation 2 owner and I highly recommend this fantastic rpg.

I own this, somewhere... but I haven't played it yet.  It seems really cool.  the PS2 had some great JRPG's.  Thanks for reminding me about it.

Same here. I put it in my cue for Level 5 games to play when Ni no Kuni came out but still didn't get to it. One day...

Got to the end of this one but never finished it. The other aspect of this game that can add to that 100 hours is leveling up and evolving weapons. Even thought I got to the end of the game and acquired a really powerful sword, found a copy of the strat guide at a Barns & Noble. That guide is fat and at least 1/4 is just weapons evolve charts. My badass sword in regards to power was only halfway up the list. There were like another 30 swords more powerful than mine that through leveling and combining can be made. Never mind Jasters gun or everyone elses weapons. But as you said beautiful graphics and excellent music make this a must have.

This is a wonderful game! Between Rogue Galaxy and Star Ocean Last Hope I prefer the former. It's one of the best sci-fi Jrpgs of all time in my opinion.

Sweet, man! Though I prefer RG over Last Hope, it's still a good jrpg. Star ocean 2 is my favorite in the whole series though.

I only played the demo of this back when OPM came with a demo disc. I didn't like the battle system but I can't remember why.

I played that same demo then picked up the game later on.

It could have been the fatique system; each character could only perform a number of actions before that blue bar over their head depleted.  Once that happened, you needed to avoid attacks for a bit until it filled up again.

I'm such a shameful gamer, Rodney.  Rogue Galaxy - a game I had a ton of enthusiasm to play - has sat on my shelf for a few years now unplayed.  I'll eventually get to it, though, as I'm no longer buying lengthy games en masse like I used to.
