BaD 5: Sam and Dean ARE the Witchers!

I was recently watching Supernatural Season 1 on NETFLIX and hadn't noticed before how similar it is to the Witcher. Every episode plays like a side quest in Witcher 3, while the main story quest is a search for their missing father. It's a reverse of Siri and Gestalt I guess, but I never noticed it before. Every episode is a monster hunt complete with a little lore, and it all takes place in the midwest, which also works well as a background with the seemingly safe suburban and rural areas really covering up something more evil and sinister underneath, like a David Lynch film. I'm enjoying my rewatch of the series a lot. Not sure where the series goes bad? I jumped off board many seasons ago and occasionaly catch a new episode on TV here and there. The show is still great!

Funny how often I watch the CW I don't watch Supernatural but once I start getting into Witcher I'll check it out. How come you stopped following the show?

I think it's because I dismissed most CW shows in general that I missed this one. I was probably too busy to keep a regular weekly scedule. On the surface it seems like a lot of CW shows are formulaic cheesy teen dramas aimed at girls. Also, the show aired before 'streaming video' was a thing and seeing how it's been on so long, I felt like I had too much to catch up on and the only way to really do that back then is buy DVD box sets, and you know what, I actually found a box set of the first season just now, so I must have watched and saw  something to trigger a purchase like that years ago. Also, my personal tastes are more defined now, and I love horror and spooky things that are done well. Anyway, as I'm watching the first season, 1 or 2 episodes every night, I just can't stop watching. I feel like I discovered something new and great! It also feels like an anime at times, like Full Metal Alchemist. Dean and Sams relationship is great, and they travel across the  midwest searching for clues to find their missing father. The midwest and rural America is a great setting for film and TV. I love the road trip aspect of it too. It's a bit cheezy at times, but overall it is very well done. I think it still stands up over time. The only thing that dates the show are flip phones and tech like that.

Oh ok, and yeah CW does like to throw a lot of teen drama into their shows. I did hear that their show Riverdale, the Archie Comics show, is supposed to be really good but I haven't checked it out.

It's supposed to be dark, like Twin Peaks or something. It starts off with a murder. I will start watching Archie now too. Maybe read the new comics as well. Seems like ppl are positive about the show. And I love dark mysteries.

Start a new game? I'd just keep going. There is way too much content in that game to start from scratch. Honestly, some of the best parts are side quests and monster hunts. The side quests can get pretty long and some have you traveling across the entire map. It is definetly one of my top 5 fav games of all time. It set a high bar for fantasy RPGs and side quest quality. Not to mention visuals.

Usually I'd agree, but i just got to lvl 2, killed the griffin and went to the next area where i was being questioned by some royal dude about things I'm assuming are in past games i know nothing about. Then there's this card game i don't feel like playing and the menus are overwhelming and i dunno i think starting over and doing more side quests may not be the worst. Or just going back to the first area if that's an option.

Actually you might be right about backstory. I played previous games and read the novels so I guess I didn't notice missing context and motivations. I've heard people bring this up before. I guess you could follow journal and do easiere quests first, before pushing forward.

Never played The Witcher, but I've been a fan of Supernatural since it first aired. I'm annoyed that the CW and Hulu apparently no longer have a deal, because that's how I was able to keep up with the show as it was airing. Now I'll have to wait until the current season shows up on Netflix net fall. A couple of the seasons' story arcs are a little weak, but over all, I really enjoy it.

I have a lot of seasons to catch up on, so it will be a while before I get to the current one. I'm only about half way through the first season 12 out of 22 I think but the relationship between Sam and Dean has enough chemistry and I like the Mulder&Scully thing they have going. Also, the cinematogrphy is just gorgeous. The darkness gives it nightmarish feel. The monsters are really creepy, and the suspense is riveting. Yeah, I honestly feel like this might be one of my favorite shows of all time. Like the top 5 or 10 shows. It's like baby X-Files, but also a buddy road trip. Very creative stories with different monster/creatures etc. So good! Love it! Love it! Love it!
