PS2 Classics: How PS2 Game Collecting is serious buisness

Ps2 games are serious buisness for collectors and thats the truth, why do you think im on here preaching about buying PS2 games cause one day your going to say, wow im glad i listened to Rodney on pixlbit, lol. So you want an awesome example , how many of you ever played the Hack series on the ps2? I owned the complete set at one time and really didnt care for the game myself,as a matter of fact i was complaining cause evrytime i almost got done with one part two came out then three and i was thinking what a bunch of money hungry developers. But now after all of that this same set of Hack games i was complaining about and sold for next to nothing is worth some big bucks today,

This set is $849 new on amazon

Now if thats not crazy i dont know what is this same set used is $250 plus, and me being an idiot and selling these games hurt especially since im a collector now. Some of the most important things to look for when collecting ps2 games are, for a game player usually green labels and red labels which are greatest hits are usually better as far as game playing performance, but as a collector you want the black label which is the first print release of the game and are the most sought after by collectors.

And little has changed since the ps1 the black label is original print then the red label is the 1st greatest hits then the green is the second greatest hits so green being the best performance of the three and black being the most valuable to collectors and as always with games condition, cd wear and complete with original artwork and manual and any bonus material that may have been released with the game.

So a good example of game buying is like my little delimma i had, as a collector original complete games is all i deal with unless its a game that i just want to play, but anyway i wanted Devil summoner 1 & 2 and i was convinced to buy at a $100 plus for first prints of the game but with a second print made public it litterally drove the price down on both games and although you will still pay a little more for first print its not a quarter of what it was,so i went with the second print since the second print if limited will not redeem value for the first or second print for a long time.

Lunar complete on amazon $249 used

So as you can see ps2 collecting can be a lucretive hobby and can be very profitable if you buy and sell smartly or you can be like me and just collect to collect, till next time.

Nice collection, only my gb games I've kept over the years and the odd PS2 game, i've kept about 2 3rds of my GC games because of the Wii.

I have an awesome PS One and PS2 collection, according to many. Especially if you like RPGs and shmups. I've got most of the greats and every single stand-alone shmup released to the PS2. If I tried doing it now though? Eee, I'd hate to see how costly that would end up!

Heck yeah. I remember when the strategy guide for Valkyrie Profile was over $100.00. At the time, I had scored it for 10 (O_O)

Game resellers can charge as much as they want for .hack!  There's no way I'm dropping that kind of money on four games, especially when the first two games are quite common.  I'm actually curious now about the real worth of these games (what people are willing to pay for them), which is usually displayed in a real auction and not through Buy-It-Now.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm done buying PS2 games.  The pricing has become increasingly absurd these past few years, with used prices moving closer and closer to the MSRP of a new game, and I'll feel bad for anyone who actually wants to play many of these games.

Lol Well i agree with the fact i wouldnt pay that for hack especially since i didnt care for the game, with that said i wouldnt mind owning the set for collector value being i collect ps2 games but theres no way in hell i would pay that or even a quarter of that for hack, now if i found a reasonable deal on it maybe, i would rather invest in some of the more obscure ps games which for that price i could buy quite a few.

I almost did that about a year ago.  I came across a brand new copy of Quarantine during FYE's PS2 clearance sale, and I thought about putting the set together (as the fourth was the rarest of the bunch).  But, I left it behind because I really didn't care for the series.  Of course, that was kind of foolish considering what people were willing to pay for it, even used.  The same thing happened with a KOEI game, Samurai Warriors 2: Empires; FYE had it for $10, which I could have easily sold for $50.

It is funny, however, that we wouldn't mind owning these games if we found them for cheap.  We've played these games and we didn't see the fuss, so the game's worth to us is greatly diminished.  Meanwhile, those who really want these games are willing to drop big bucks on them.  No wonder we're so careful with our games now and haord them like treasure.

But, yeah, I agree with you about spending your money elsewhere, especially if multiple inexpensive games are involved.  As you've said many times, these games are not going to go down in price so get them while you can.

Well except Devil Summoner i finally got 1 & 2 second print i was going to buy the first print but because of the reprint the value dropped big time so i just went ahead and got the second print.

I'm glad I picked up some of the rarer PS1 and PS2 games brand-new back in the day. However, when I have the disposable income, I don't mind splurging on some of the rarer gaming treasures. I scored Panzer Dragoon Saga for $150 on Amazon. Only had I picked it up for 40 bucks at Electronics Boutique back in 1998. Oh, well.

Once I saw Panzer Dragoon Saga at Electronic Boutique for $30!  It was probably that same year.  I try not to think about it much. Frown

Still kicking myself for selling my copy of Balders Gate Dark Alliance 2. There is a used copy at my gamestop, original case but no manual for $35. Throw in the manual and I would consider it. My best PS2 score as of late was a copy of Kya Dark Lineage a few months ago. Perfect condition, first addition, for 3 bucks. This old guy who sets up at the market on the weekends had it and a couple of xbox games. I have never priced this one, but I don't think it got a best sellers addition and I have never seen it in the used games at gamestop. It was not a big hit or anything but it is actually a pretty good game. I'll have to do some investigating.

Nice to know the Lunar games are retaining their value, not that I ever plan to sell mine. I 'd give them to my nephew first.

Man, I can't believe those .hack games are worth that much. I guess that's what happens when every sequel has less copies printed than the last!

I just ordered Lunar a few days ago on PSP. I hope it's great!

I could of picked up all the .Hack (PS2) games off a friend for a good price a couple years ago.  I wasn't interested in the series, so I passed.  I did get some other great games from him though.

Well just cause amazon tries to sell them for that much does not mean it is worth that much. I have seen both lunar games for like100 dollars in really good condition.. But hey I am with you..I am at the moment in the ps2 collecting mode as well. If I come across some good deals on ps2 games I would buy them, before I was like nah i pass..Not anymore!

yeanI just base what people are willing to pay for them and i have seen some pretty good deals on all these games for cheaper but I look at amazon to see what the high for the game is, just because its high there im nit saying you cant find a better deal thats actually part of the fun of collecting.

Lately I've been looking up some of my games with the thought of selling some off. I hate to do so, but I've got quite a few mint condition gems, including both Lunar games, rare NES titles, and those original .Hack games. Very tempting...
