Switch(ing Gears)

I now have a Switch.

Over the past 7 years I have done a good job of saving up all my change.  I finally took it in to convert it.  I ended up with enough cash to buy a Switch and a game.  What game did I pick up?  I told my wife the first game I was going to get was Mario Kart, and that is what I got.  That game is gorgeous on Switch...  and it plays so much better than the Wii one.  I also picked up a copy of Zelda for when I need a single player experience.  I come back to Pixlbit for a second time this week to solicit advice for games that are must-buys.   So, what other Switch games should I buy?

I did end up skipping out on the Wii U.  My Wii and 3DS don't get anywhere near as much love from me as they probably should.  Having spent less than a day with the Switch, I know that is going to change.  The Switch could very well become my preferred handheld(or is it console?)  It just feels right holding the Switch in my hands.  The Joy-cons are small, but I apprecaite being able to play Mario Kart and not have to worry about motion controls when using just one Joy-con...  Dangit, I'm going to be thinking about the Switch all day.

I also finished up my 4th run in Prey at the perfect time.  Which leaves me wide open to get sucked into Zelda... I hope I get sucked in.

Snipperclips is a lot of fun to play with a significant other (or your kids). Blaster Master Zero is a very well done remake of the original game, and Mighty Gunvolt Burst also looks fantastic, but I've yet to give it a go.

I put a decent amount of time into Snake Pass, but it's a game that requires quite a bit of patience as the learning curve is a bit steep. But it's certainly an interesting in unique game that fits the Switch well for handheld play (though it looks so much more gorgeous on the big screen).

I haven't played Splatoon 2 yet, but the first game was a whole bunch of fun and the demo for 2 looked like an improvement on what was already a solid game. If you're into casual online multiplayer, it's probably a good fit.

Also, I wish I Shovel Knight on there rather than my Wii U, so I'm really hoping they do a boxed copy of that game and I'll double-dip.

Don't have kids, yet...  one on the way though. While my wife doesn't really play games outside of Mario Kart.  From what I have seen of Snipperclips, I am sure she would play with me.

Will probably quadruple dip on Shovel Knight, just because I want to keep supporting those guys.

I should probably play the Splatoon demo.  I never played the first, but am always interested in a decent multiplayer shooter.

also, does the e-shop suck on the Switch or is it just me?

It could definitely use some love. I have a hard time finding stuff to the point where I basically need to know what I'm looking for when I go in there. I hope Nintendo plans on fixing that somewhere along the way.

I was a little shocked that there was no way to drill deeper than just "New Releases" and "Best Sellers."   I can't say that I am the biggest fan of the 3DS e-shop, but it is a heck of a lot easier to find something that isn't Mario Kart, Zelda, or Splatoon.

As I think about it, I do have similar complaints about the PS4 and Vita shops.  Which is why I normally buy thier games on my desktop.

Congrats on the Switch! I don't own one but I like the Nintendo Digital Store so get a SD Card with a lot of space just in case you decide to stock up on digital games.

That's the plan.  I hate swapping out cartridges/discs.  The only reason I grabbed a physical copy of Zelda was to buy myself some time to size up my options for micro-SD cards.

Splatoon 2 is a good buy.

Have you written a review of it, that I may have missed?  If so, then I will gladly go back and read it.

No I didn't review Splatoon 2.  I just think it's one of the better games for Switch right now and I'm getting a good amount of enjoyment out of it.

I'll have to give it a closer look.

I love the idea of a portable console, but all I could really tell you right now is Splatoon 2 looks good?

I am starting to accept that i may have to get splatoon 2, but I should probably watch some stuff first

I also put in a vote for Splatoon 2. It does mostly focus on online multiplayer but there is a single player campaign and its also fun.

I Am Setsuna if you didnt buy it previously. Its a good RPG, I need to get back to playing it. I lost progress because I forgot to save and died in a new area.

Bulb Boy is a puzzle horror game. Its quite short but it doesnt cost much either. Its a nice short game to play especially after a long one.

congrats on the Switch. I'm in love with it. What I'm not in love with is the fact it doesn't have every game in existence to play on, cause as far as I'm concerned it's the perfect format.

I really want to play Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. I like strategy games. This one looks fun.

Im sure that I would enjoy it, but strategy games are hard for me to get into.  It will probably be a further down the road purchase for me.

I have Zelda, I am Setsuna and Sonic Mania. I want Mario Kart 8, Mario + Rabbids and maybe Splatoon 2. I can't wait for Mario Odyssey in a couple of months

I can't stop thinking about Mario Kart.  Today is going to be a long day.  I want to play Zelda, but Mario Kart has taken hold and wont let go.

Congratz on the switch. I haven't taken the plunge myself yet, but probably will around Christmas when the new Mario launches.

I've still barely played Prey... god I need to make some time for that game!

Prey is on its way to become my desert island game.

What makes Prey special? I'm not asking in a way that I'm trying to be mean, I'm just trying to work out what sets it apart from other games in the genre, like Dishonored or Deus Ex. Is it about the choices it offers?

I have played through the game 4 times so far, and each playthrough has been unique.  Not just choices in objective and what side-missions I want to complete.  I am talking about how I needed to change how I viewed Talos 1, and how to complete objectives with different powers, or no powers at all.   does that make any sense?
