Evil Within 2

Evil Within 2 Demo is a great early Xmas gift!

Seriously! Download it for free on PS4 now! The demo is really good! It’s the first 3 chapters of the game, but the 3rd chapter drops you into a large map with lots of things to do in it and I actually think the demo is even better than the entirety of the first game. It’s THAT good! I didn’t think the first game was bad at all. It was one of my favorite games the year it came out and still go back and play it, but this is just a better version of that game.

The original had you go through a chapter based story tunnel with maybe one big area to explore near the beginning (a village), then pushing you along through more story tunnel to the end. The open area of the new game (a small town) is maybe 5 times bigger than the open area in the first game, but also with more secrets to discover and most of the weapons unlocked.

For example, the game feels similar to Zelda. There is an overworld (the town) with houses you can walk through and explore scavenging for stuff to make weapons and such, but sometimes you can find underground passages that act like mini-dungeons where you might encounter more enemies in a condensed space that you can’t really avoid, like you can in the overworld streets. Also, at one point in a house I went into a strange nightmare/dream world where I was being chased by a monster like a horror film. So the overworld has homes you can explore for stuff to make, while the underworld is made up of a combination either tunnels or nightmare realm.

Surprisingly, you can unlock most of the weapons in this town area if you can find them, and also level up your character and abilities to get a real good feel for melee and ranged combat.

Yeah, I spent a really good 4 hours in the demo just scavenging houses before the demo ended. If you were wondering why I don’t own the game, I would, but it’s Xmas and money is tight so I’ll most likely have to wait for a good sale on this.

So I recommend giving yourself a good scare with the demo. I highly recommend it!

Warframe

I’ve been playing a lot of Warframe on PS4. So far I have about 4 planets unlocked and I’m like level 24 or something. The game really has added a lot of content now. I fell off the game at the beginning, but it sure has gotten me hooked lately. My one annoyance at the moment is having to search for specific artifacts to spawn in a given mission, which happens at random and I’ve had very little luck finding them.  I need at least 3 to unlock the next planet, so I’m running same missions over and over just waiting for a random item to drop which is infuriating. Not sure how other people didn’t have a problem with this or give the game a pass for things like this, but it’s the one thing that’s put me off from continually playing. If you play Warframe, please add me on PS4 (sharky_321). Unless you’re an asshole that hates bad players like me, then maybe don’t.

Also, fuck Final Fantasy 14!

I got an email that said I could log in for free until January, but actually it was only four 4 consecutive days from first login. It took forever to re-download the damned installer. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKK!

On the bright side, I might get into the Beta for Terra MMO on PS4, which will make up for the FF bullshit!

What have y’all been up to lately?

I might have to download that Evil Within 2 demo. Always need free stuff, especially on my neglected PS4. I think I have you on my PS4, but I'll check to make sure.

I've been playing a lot of retro stuff that became backwards compatible on Xbox One, mostly because I still have the games and it costs me nothing. I'm kind of between jobs right now, so I'll only get something if I can trade for it, and I don't like to let go of stuff if I can help it.

I think the EW2 demo is pretty lengthy. I had a great afternoon playing it. I can't afford full price for it at the moment but I'll buy it later.

I got through another bump on Warframe and played more of it. There are things about it that aren't really explained (systems) and have to research a bit to get through, but overall I think the combat is very fast paced and good. The story is good too.

I started playing more SNES games via emulator when the snes classic came out. I've mostly been re-playing games in my library that I've enjoyed before like Lightning Returns and Bloodborne.

I really wish every system was backwards compatible, as impossible a wish as that is, because I like jumping around to different games. I just don't want to have to lug out every single system.

Agree. I still have the ps3 plugged in, but wish ps4 had ps3 compatability. It's easier to have everything on Steam, but some are exclusive to console so...

yea, and now I have two tvs with different. . . wait, no 3 tvs, with different jacks, so that I have to swap tvs too to play certain systems. if i had a house this wouldn't be a problem, just a big media room for it all. But playing at a friend's apartment means I have to truck all this stuff around.

I was holding on to a bulky flatscreen because it had older video ports for gamecube/playstations/etc retro stuff, but glad I gave it away now. I rarely play games that old now. Much roomier now. I mostly just look for emulation for that old stuff. Now I limit to Steam/PC and ps3/ps4. My computer monitor has an HDMI port so I can use for both PC games and console. I can't wait for Switch so I can just play full console games portable and just stick to ps4.

i used to do the combination tv/pc. Since I went to laptops, I don't do that anymore.

yeah. I also have a laptop thats perfect for older emulators and handhelds like gameboy/gba/psp. I used to use the gameboy player adapter on gamecube, and then the bulky ass tv to play a gba game on a bigger screen. Laptop all the way.

I still have that Gameboy Player and it's still attached to my beloved Gamecube. Emulators are tempting though. If I ever get a new laptop, I'll think about it.

I tried starting The Evil Within a couple months ago.  I think that I am just going to skip it, because that opening level was so flippin' annoying.  I picked up The Evil Within 2 over Black Friday I think...  or was that all a dream...  either way.  I can't wait to play the second one.

The sequel is more of an action game. Very different type of game from the first. The first game emphasized stealth more, but I think the weapons work better in this game. At least there appears to be more ammo available to either gather or craft.
