The Low-Effort Gamer Show: GoldenEye revisited.

So, it's another February and another BaD. I've never been able to keep up with BaD, though I've always been able to contribute something.

I've also been doing a lot of my video game-related stuff on YouTube and Twitch these days. I gotta admit, I kind of enjoy these videos. I bought an Elgato HD60X capture card, and after a few snags (I had to get a SuperSpeed USB-C cable to get it to work on my computer, plus getting the mic situation figured out), I finally got it more or less going. This is the kind of thing I wanted to do when I was younger, but couldn't afforf a camcorder.

My latest video is of GoldenEye 007. Long lost in licensing hell because of all the parties involved - Eon Productions plus two rival console makers, plus the current video game rights-holder, IO Interactive, and I think Amazon and Sony might have stakes in Goldeneye as well - things happened, and the game is now available on Nintendo Switch Online and Game Pass. Nintendo also negotiated for exclusive multiplayer rights for the game on Switch.

This game both seems a little dated - I'm definitely used to the dual stick control scheme for FPS's, though it's very possible to do it with the Switch Pro Controller with a bit of tinkering with the controls - and at the same time, it's a testament to how much the Nintendo 64 could really do in the right hands. The character models are as blocky as the fighters in Virtua Fighter 1, but they're pretty animated, and the environments are incredibly detailed for the time. So if you have access to Switch or Xbox, check this one out.

I saw it drop on Game Pass just the other day. I may give it a whirl again. I seem to remember getting stuck on that segement in the campaign where you have to use your laser watch to open a panel in the train within a time limit.

Time limits in first person games are the worst ...
