Gamertag to Face

It's been quite a while hasn't it?

Pardon my extended absence. With all the college stuff, job stuff, school stuff, prom stuff, and graduation planning stuff, I've had little time on my hands. And whatever time I did have I didn't necessarily want to spend writing. So, forgive me.

Before I say anything of importance, I'll take this chance to hop on Rodney's "Gametag to Face" bandwagon. Also, I think I'll take it a little further and open up the comments to questions. If you have anything you'd like to ask, about me or anything, have at it and I'll probably answer with a detailed response. Assuming you don't ask for my address....So....here's me, if you haven't seen me already.

I hate smiling so, you're welcome. And everyone tells me I have anime eyes and I'm just like....is that even possible?

On a completely unrelated note, I apologize to all of you who for some reason decided to follow me on Twitter or add me on Facebook. I'm sure you're finding out the hard way that as much as I rant and rave about video games, it's even worse when it comes to daily life. So yeah, sorry.

I finished Bioshock Infinite the other day. Really good game. But allow me to be the devil's advocate for a second as I talk about the one thing I didn't like about it: the combat. I don't know, I wasn't exactly expecting something out of this world or anything, and it's not bad by any means, but for a game where everything else is so wonderfully crafted, I was surprised that combat didn't have more depth. Sure the vigors and skylines added some dramatic effect and novelty points, but for me that wasn't enough to hide how repetitive and uneventful combat was. Still a great game though, and GOTY nominee for sure.

I borrowed Heavy Rain from one of my friends recently. I'd heard a lot about it obviously, but I'd never really gotten around to playing it until now. I know it was some dramatic storytelling masterpiece when it was first released, but honestly it's kind of boring to me. And it's not even that old. I'm pretty sure it was released in like 2010 or something. I don't know, maybe going into it with a good idea of what I was going to see ruined the experience for me. Wouldn't be the first time.

I'm also really excited to finally play Final Fantasy Tactics for the first time. Luckily, I don't really know much about it except that it's supposed to be good, so, there's that.

Graduation is right around the corner, so after that, get used to seeing way more of me around here than you ever thought you wanted to. I'm even thinking of starting up a long abandoned project that died with 1UP hehehe.

I liked HEavy Rain, and I can't wait for BEyond: Two Souls.  IT's not for everyone, but if you like it, you love it.  I personally really liked it.

I've heard the combat in INfinite isn't great.  Interesting.  I still want to play it though.

I hope you had a good prom.  Mine was in 1995!

Prom was pretty good. I'm actually really really excited for Beyond: Two Souls. Especially after the Tribeca showing

Pro bono.  I'm thinking about doing it myself.  It's a great site, and I thought maybe you would be interested.

I'm on a bit of a hiatus from writing "professionally" for the time being. I'll definitely keep that opportunity in mind though. Thanks!

Tactics is really cool. But fair warning it requires some grinding, especially in the first few hrs. But once you unlock some job classes, learn some skills and the story really gets going, it gets addictive as shit.

Grinding doesn't really bother me. All I need is some music and snacks and I can do it all day. I just really love samey, monotonous activities for some reason

My computer often doesn't display pictures in people's blogs correctly, so can't see your face. I have two Facebook accounts (on for the 1up group) because there are certain things people that don't know me on an absolutely personal basis don't need to see.

I didn't play Heavy Rain, but I watched a Let's Play of it, and there were definitely some slow parts.

Congrats on prom and graduation!

Thanks! And yeah, I guess the story is interesting, it just tends to drag on and on and ON

I thought that the combat was fantastic, compared to the original bioshock.

GamerGirlBritt

Oh well I haven't played the original Bioshock so there's that. I'll definitely have to check it out.

Are you playing the War of the Lions version of Tactics, that remake is really good.

Everyone died in my playthrough of Heavy Rain and the bad guy got away.

Infinite is on my bucket list.

GamerGirlBritt

Yup War of the Lions. And I haven't played Heavy Rain in a few days, I'll probably abandon it. Ohhh well

My school mascot was a tiger so,"Heck yeah!!!!" Final Fantasy Tactics is a love affair of mine but I also feel as if it's an accquired taste sort of thing. Hope you enjoy it too,Brit!

Funny, that's my Princeton shirt. My school's mascot is actually Pegasus. Yes, I'm being serious. So serious it hurts *in my whiny Rinoa voice*

Congrats on prom, graduation, etc etc.! Sounds like it's been a fun an exciting time for you! It's hard to believe that I graduated back in 2004, and finished college at PSU in 2008. Time flies, so enjoy everything while you can (Ugh.. That made me sound really old).

I hope you enjoy Final Fantasy Tactics as well, it was one of my favorite Final Fantasy's even though it's more sub-genre'd.
PS: Monks + Ninjas = Awesome
But that's something everyone knows lol.

I was pondering the Gamertag to Face thing as well, but my studly mugshot is already my profile pic so I haven't gotten around to it.

Questions: Full name, address, and is there a tree outside your window? (That was a joke of course)
Serious Question: Being the gamer that you are, has there ever been a game in which you wish you could go back and play all over again as if it were your first time? And what about that certain game led you to pick it? Was it the story? Gameplay? Maybe a twist that you never saw coming?

GamerGirlBritt

05/15/2013 at 06:40 PM

If I could pick any game to play over again for the first time, it would be Final Fantasy X. Obviously everyone knows by now that that's my favorite game ever. Like seriously, ever. Despite it's many, many, MANY flaws, there was something about it that just got to me. I can't even put into words what exactly it was. It just pulled me right in and didn't let go. I guess it was the story mostly. And maybe the sheer scope of the game. The fact that I was 10 when I played it probably played a part too. I knew virtually nothing about video games at that point, so I couldn't see what was wrong with the game, only what was right. Now after so many years, I notice the rough textures, the mismatched lip syncing, and the character model inconsistencies, and I just smile. It wasn't perfect but I can pretty much say Final Fantasy X changed my life. That was really my formal introduction to video games.

She's back! Hope your prom goes smoothly and you have fun.And congrats on your pending graduation, too. Great pics of you, btw. You're pretty smiling or not,so it's okay. As for Bioshock Infinite,I finished it recently and it still resonates in my mind. Such a powerful narrative and awesome characters. More games like that one are needed i think. I though of one question for you. Do people ever give you crap for being a female gamer? Like it really matters? To non-gamers it sometimes becomes an issue as they don't understand much about games. And why girls like to play them, too.

GamerGirlBritt

05/15/2013 at 06:30 PM

Thanks a lot! The only issue I really come across on a regular basis as a female gamer is not being taken seriously. Whenever people (guys) figure out that I play, a look of confusion crosses their faces, then it turns to amusement as they try to "dumb down" the conversation to a narrower gaming vocabulary that they think I'll be able to understand. I just smile and then pull all the tricks out of the bag and totally take them to school on all subjects related to video games. Basically it's a constant struggle for respect, but since i'm not planning to be a professional in this medium it rarely bothers me.

Dem Tactics...

I attempted to play it but I sucked so I did a ragequit of sorts. I really should start it up again.

GamerGirlBritt

Ragequit? Uh oh

You shouldn't hate smiling, it suits you! As for Bio shock infinate I'm really wanting to give it a try, the formula was beginning to get a little stale for me in the second installment but I really like the change of scenery in this one, hopefully I'll get some funding to get it sooner rather than later.

GamerGirlBritt

05/18/2013 at 04:10 PM

Well thank you. Everything everyone's been saying about the earlier ones is making me want to go back and check those out now.

By the way Brit as good as the psp version is i would highly recommend the playstation version i liked that one better for some odd reason but im retro at heart so maybe thats why.

GamerGirlBritt

05/18/2013 at 05:51 PM

I was debating on whether or not I should get that version. I'm kind of a purist when it comes to some things so I think I might swing for the playstation version instead. Plus, I don't play handheld things unless I have to.

leeradical42

05/18/2013 at 06:50 PM

Ha ha glad to hear that although they did a great job on the psp version you will like the playstation version better especially since you can see the game in a full screen and the original game is a great game to add to your classic collection.

Well, the disc drive in my PS3 stopped working exactly 5 minutes ago, and I play all my PS1 games on there, sooo we'll see how this goes.

As someone who loves the Final Fantasy Series to death and someone who has loved VII for years to come, playing Tactics recently over a few times that I have to say its becoming my favorite of the series over loving VII for so many years as my top favorite. I'd honestly say story wise it is the best of the series cause it delves deep into not only religion but also cults and politics. Politics is touched slighty in some other titles in the series but this one goes far beyond that and I love it, plus the writing (the way the characters speak) in that game is not seen in any other game in the franchise, I'd say you will definitly love it once you get over the difficulty spikes because the enemies level up with you in that game so don't expect it to get any easier as the game goes on besides staged story fights and boss fights :).

Heavy Rain is good but I wouldn't call it Cages best work cause Indigo Propechy is 100  x's better than it. Beyond 2 souls is also looking like its gonna be one of hell of a game and it reminds me a lot of Indigo Propechy so i'm way more excited for it right now than i was for Heavy Rain. I'd give it a chance tho, it gets really good later, the storys pacing is a bit slow honestly at first.
