A little reaffirmation, and "classic" gaming.

I finished up the Legend of Zelda last Friday. I really enjoyed the game, but left somewhat dissatisfied. I think that I have just been spoiled by A Link to the Past. I think that LoZ, like Metroid laid a wonderful foundation. I can believe that both games were the cream of the crop back when they were released, but the sequels took the best parts of the originals and expanded upon them. Either way, it was a great game. It was quite a treat seeing where one of my favourite games began.
I then sat down on Saturday to start and finish Super Metroid. It has been quite a few years since my last playthrough, so I forgot the placement of a few key items. I could not remember where Crocomire was, and I completely forgot about the Wave beam until after Ridley. In the end I finished the game in 5 hours with an 89% collection rating. I was quite surprised by that because I had a lower rating the last time I had played it.
AT&T finally came and fixed my internet. I cannot believe how much I missed having a proper connection.  It tooke me a little bit, but I finally decided what game I am going to tackle next, Faxanadu.  I have heard good things about this classic NES game, and dowloaded it off the VC.  From the 15-20 minutes that I spent with it so far, I have gotten a good vibe.  I hope that it does not disappoint.

One last thing.  I saw on IGN that they claim that the PS4 will have 20 exclusive, 12 of which are new IPs out in the first year of the PS4.  I figured as much, but they are doing a great job of upstaging Microsoft at every turn.  Sony has 5 more exclusives coming, and 50% more new exclusive IPs.  I love being reaffirmed that the PS4 is the way to go.

20 exclusives coming when? In any case, I'm hyped for PS4.

I recently bought Faxanadu at Half Price Books, but I have to hook the NES up again to give it a go. I rented it once 20 years ago, so my memories are a bit foggy! Hope to find out what you think of it.

Glad you wrapped up LoZ. For the longest time it was my favorite game and it's responsible for my love of games. I couldn't play it the last time I tried, though, so I understand why you didn't love it.

The first Zelda is a bit rough around the edges nowadays, but it's still a classic. It took me forever to finish that game because I didn't know you could burn bushes lol. I always prefered the second one despite how blasphemous that may sound.

If I like Faxanadu, I may go and play Zelda II, somebody, somewhere had compared the two games.  As far as the sidescrolling aspects of Zelda II.  also, it does not sound blasphemous.

I loved LoZ as a kid.  I beat the first and second quest (after you beat it the first time, you can replay a more difficult rearranged version) many times.  I still like it today, though it doesn't hold up as well as some of the later Zeldas.  I loved Faxanadu.  I may have to find a copy and replay it.

Sony continues to win over the hearts and minds of gamers. It became not so much a matter of policies, but a vision and a direction that favors what we all want. No amount of hype or PR can change that. Congrats on beating Zelda. I need to take on that one.
