Tactical games may Forever be Gone

So i have been into strategy rpgs for along time and really think this is the best genere in my opinion of course, yea we have games out with flashy graphics in HD and all but the real thinking games especially good Strategy games are a thing of the past, so why dont game developers make classics like Final Fantasy Tactics which was released in January of 1998 and thats along time ago and is still a very sought after game today and then the remake for the psp which gave it a graphic upgrade and thats the last heard about it, i really would like a modern Srpg for current gen systems, i mean FFT sold 824,671 copys in Japan in the first half of 97 since then they have sold 1,350,000 and in the US it has reached 750,000 units as of 2004, and as of.  August of 2011 the game has sold over 2.4 million copies now are you going to tell me people dont like srpgs anymore so why wont game developers at least try and make a FFT2 or a Tactics Ogre 2.

So speaking of Tactics Ogre the same thing, why cant we get a sequel on hell any console, one would lead you to beleive that the genere is dead or un wanted but you couldnt be farther from the truth, like FFT Tactics Ogre the playstation version of the game due to the limited release of this game and the reluctance of its owners to sell it, the game tends to be hard to find. Used copies of the playstation version routinely sell for more than $80 and in March of 2007 Japan did a pole on the best ever top 100 games and Tactics Ogre came in at 7 which is really good, IGN,Gamespot and a slew of other sites deem Tactics Ogre as a forever Masterpeice and due to the limited release of Tactics Ogre we may never know how many ps copies they may have sold.

So is it really a dead genere or is Developers that closed minded they cant see the money to be made in a worldwide release of a sequel to either of these games, i wonder.

I mean on the PS2 we have had really good strategy games released especially by NIS but these are more strategy rpgs then Tactical i mean really the only real tactical to be released on the ps2 was.....

Now La Pucelle Tactics although a great game was not on the same level as FinalFantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre, this was a great game by the way, and then we had two Tactical games released by KOEI which were Dynasty Tactics 1 & 2.

So Why is there absolutely no Tactical games released?? Sure we see indie games, arcade games, and PC releases of semi tactical games but this is a genere thats dying or dead and is in need of attention, you cant tell me that a FFT2 would not sell i mean look at Xcom they really didnt think this game would do well but it did, and a part 2 to either of these tactical masterpeices would do very well im positive, but developers think only about the younger generation and there Call if Duty 25 or Halo 21 or Gears of War 19 i mean really do they honestly have to make the same old crap over and over and over thats why i miss the old systems, unfortunately the good old days of tactical games may be over, i sure hope but as much as i hope that they may make a return the fact of the matter is more then likely thoughs days are over.

I don't think they're dead yet.  New games are coming out like the recent Rainbow Moon for PSN, and the Banner Saga:

I would kill for a sequel to either Tactics games, and I don't know why there aren't any because there's a rabid fanbase.  Square just is stupid, as we all know.

I think there is a new FFT coming to iOS. If you didn't know, FFT was released for iOS last year and they've since updated the sprites and stuff so it looks pretty good on an iPad.

Yea Ipads, handhelds, etc but im talking consoles and not a remake, this day and age these consoles could make an awesome turn based tactical rpg that would sell millions why they dont is beyond me i mean look at Xcom it did way better then anyone would have thought and they stuck true to the original so its possible to do a part 2 correctly and not piss off fans of the original.

a console release would be awesome!  I don't know console gaming has changed so much...  every sort of game came out for the PS2, but it seems like so many Japanese games aren't localized anymore.  It's really sad.

Yes it is sad and unfortunately i dont think consoles will carry that same charm like the SNES,Playstation, and PS2 had, but even more then missing Tactical games i miss the variety that developers brought to the systems, now its all about fancy graphics, short games and FPS shooters and stupid Zombie games.

have hope. Laughing I think indie developers are the future for us, and the consoles are getting more and more indie friendly.  If big companies are only going to make AAA games, then we have the smaller companies making more niche stuff like we like.

Well I'm playing a strategy RPG right now called Project X Zone on the 3DS.  Granted it's a pretty brainless one that relies solely on the strength of the character roster.  But hey, it's sitll a SRPG.

I would say Valkyria Chronicles is a relatively recent franchise which did a good job of bringing the SRPG into the modern age. Though yeah, especially next gen, I can't imagine this genre getting many new games. 3DS is the only platform left for it really.

XCom: Enemy Unknown came out and there's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars on 3DS which is basically a handheld version of XCom: EU (It was made by some guys who did the very first X-Com). Then there's developer Firaxis who just released some strategy games on iOS like Sid Meier's Ace Patrol and Haunted Hollow. Then there's Skulls of the Shogun on XBLA this year which reminds me of Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. Finally I started hearing rumors of a new Advance Wars coming to 3DS. So I think the genre is pretty healthy even though a FFT or TO sequel hasn't come out yet. That is disappointing, I agree.

I know. I can't wait for a new Advance Wars. I think the last one was 2008. Where's one for 3DS!

Wasn't Record of Agarest War a SRPG on 360?

yea i like that one i have both Record of Argarest war naughty eddition and Record of Argarest war Zero both good but tough as nails and the 3rd one only released on ps3 now how stupid is that have 1 & 2 & the 3rd one comes out on the ps3 only makes no sense, but these are strategy rpgs not Tactical games.
