PS2 Classics: The Best RPG Ever ( in my opinion of course )

Persona 4 arguable the best rpg ever made and in my opinion is, and the reason for this is mainly because of two key components the persona system and the social link system that ties into your persona,s this is an ingenious idea and works great and then theres the story with some of the best writing in a game i ever seen, not to mention the voice acting which was subperb. Im sure some of you think that this being the best rpg maybe a bit over the top, and theres tons of great rpgs out there but Persona 4 has a uniqueness about it that puts it over and really the only complaint i had in the series was the semi boring dungeon levels but honestly thats where the bad stops the rest is great.

The day night cycles and the going to school in the day and the night fights was awesome.

The Persona series was  by Shin Megami Tensie and developed and published by Atlus and is one of the most best selling games and is still in demand to this day, and being this game is six years old it was released in Noth America on December 9th 2008 .

Catching this rare Guardian fish can get you far if used right in Persona 4.

The characters in this game are voiced and acted very well and maybe you remember some of them, Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kanji, Rise, Naoto, and of course Teddie. The moon phase system which was in Persona 3 has been replaced with a weather forcast system and is a very important part of both story and gameplay, Persona 4s gameplay is simular to Persona 3s like the awesome social link system, and the all out attack command returns as well, and the glasses Teddy give your party isnt just for looks it is actually a very important items that help you see through the fog onece you enter the tv and decreases stanima loss as well, the major difference from Persona 3s fighting system is this time you have control of all your party members which you didnt have in part 3.

One of Persona,s best features is the Persona,s you get to create.

In short the story starts with you ( the protagonist ) being sent to a rural town of Inaba from the big city since yiur parents are working abroad, and you will be living with your uncle ( Ryotaro ) and your cousin ( Nanako ) and you attend Yasogami High School, where you become freinds with most of the cast of characters, so on the first day of school you have a strange dream that teaches you haw to summon and use your persona, and eventually you enter Taurus through a tv set and learn at midnight when its raining you can enter Taurus, theres alit more to this then im saying but its a story of twist and turns unlike any game you have played before.

By fuseing personas together you can create bigger and better personas.

Persona 4 really is a dream come true for almost anyone and even if you disagree with this being the best rpg i do think you will agree that its a damn great rpg, and if you have never plated it and you like rpgs then you really need to pick this up, cause its an awesome game.

My Score 5 out of 5 Must Buy

I played a little bit of this on a rental once. I've been meaning to play it fully sometime.

I recently put them on a list. I liked the little bits that I've played so far.

These always looked neat. Even though I don't like turn-based combat and other RPG tropes, these always seemed to have a strong focus on story and character interaction, which I do like about RPGs. Of course, I'd have to play it myself to know if I'd like it, but that's my impression.

Well Joe i know your not really a rpg player but if you were to start this would be a great place to start.

Sadly, I prefer my RPGs to be filled with sprites.

Yes i know your totally retro but they do have persona on the PlayStation which would be right uo your alley.

Not entirely.  My taste to tend to skew retro, but I have just been playing older games as of late.  I did give persona 3 a spin a while ago.  Did not get very far though.

If only the title ended with a 3 instead of a 4, I'd agree with you! This one is still great though, and I agree, an absolute classic. Chessa and I never did finish this one though, so we'll need to get back to that at some point. We got very close to the end, just lost steam, I guess.

Persona 3 no doubt was very close to being the best and really the basic layout of the tower levels were what kept number 4 instead of 3 but i think we would agree the persona series is the best rpgs ever and are one of the most balanced unique series and really the only other rpgs to come close were the Zelda series.

I thought that 4 was the more refined of the last 2 Personas so I agree whole heartedly. I liked the different dungeons rather than the long monotonous Tartarus and I thought the interaction with the characters was deeper. It is one of the few games I was compelled to play through twice in a row and I felt a deep sense of loss after my last playthrough as if I was saying goodbye to a group of friends.

All I can add is "Where the hell is P5?"

Definitely gonna play this eventually but first I'm gonna play P3 on my PSP. Preferably I'd like to get a Vita and P4 Golden, but that's a ways off, I think.

P4 golden is persona 4 with a face lift and looks good and persona 3 is awesome as well, but i picked persona 4 as the best because persona 3s Tataurus tower was very bland.

FF6 is my best RPG ever.

I had made it really far in Persona 3, but then got stuck at a boss in the normal game and in Tartarus. I hope to go back and finish it someday. My brother said P4 is better, and I like how you can control all your party members.

P4 is one of the best.  I still enjoyed P3 more though.  My kids loved the P4 anime.

It really is a incredable game. That said I need to finish it. I'm about 3/4 through it but have not played it in a long time.

That's what scares me about long games like this. It is so easy to get distracted away from it after spending 50, 60, even 70 or more hours on it and then it's so hard to go back, and who wants to restart after investing all that time?

You know this happens to me all the time i change games like i change sox lol!! This is why my backlog chart looks like pacman with a small mouth lol!! But this game has points where you can save and go back to years later and not feel lost (which i did recently ) matter of fact it took me three years to finish Disgaea hour of darkness which Jeffrey aka Temperance found rather amusing lol!!

GeminiMan78

I have done that too and I always go back and finish them eventually. I'm lucky in the case of Persona 4, it is broken down by days and I have the strategy guide which also fallows that format.

I have such a hard time arguing this because it was fantastic. Because you only put it as best RPG and not JRPG I think I have to role with Skyrim. Don't get me wrong I LOVE JRPG's. I've been playing Wild Arms for the last month and a half, but There is something about the Elder Scrolls series that really punches my happy button. Skyrim happens to be the best of the bunch, but I love the world of Morrowind. If they updated it with fast travel and whatnot I would lose my S#!%.

leeradical42

Skyrim is my favorite on the 360 and the only reason i say Persona 4 is the story, characters, and the uniqueness is unlike anything ever released well besides the other persona games but it is the best of the four in my opinion of course.

I totally agree. I've been a huge fan of the SMT games since the PSOne. I also have a major love for the Suikoden series. Two is my favorite, but I actually really liked three as well. (Let's not talk about four)That being said I wait till I have a week off before I start the latest Elder Scrolls game. If I don't I will suddenly need to see a doctor to get a note for a few days.

Suikoden is an excellent series and some are quite expensive on amazon these days but your right these were excellent games.

I cant argue that it's the best RPG ever.   I'll just have to take your word for it.  Since I've never  played an RPG but for just a few levels.
