My take on FFXIV launch and login stuff

I'm not going to pile onto the game with more hate. The fact is that the game is good and through word of mouth, and advertising the game is surprisingly popular and SE wasn't prepared for that. That's the official PR position. SE stated that they will add more servers next week for NA/EU and some of the NA players have been logging in early and then just not logging out, not giving anyone else a chance to play. I doubt this is the "main" reason players can't login, but it's quite annoying. Anyway. I started playing on a JPN server world as suggested by a Pixlbit user. So far I've been able to play fine. I don't know how long I'll be able to play without being locked out, but so far so good. If you want to know where I'm at

Character: Talyn Greyhawke
Job: Conjurer
City: Gridania

I think I will stick to this until next week. The game is quite fun. I might just stick to this JPN server longer than expected.

So FFXIV players, what is your take?

I was lucky to get in on a stable server, the Moogle server.

I'm also a tiny little guy playing as a conjurer. I LOVE this game so far, something I've never really sayd about an MMO before.

I don't trust the US servers right now. I haven't been able to login the last two days at all. I'm playing with English players on a Japanese Server (Carbuncle). They seem pretty cool, so I'm having fun leveling conjurer and chatting about stuff. Have fun with the game.

Linkshells aren't cross server. You have to be on Carbuncle to be added. Are you playing with other people? The game is pretty soloable. I was having a good time soloing on Carbuncle until I got invited to a group. Maybe in the near future we can have a true "Pixlbit" Linkshell. For now, learn the game and have fun!

I like the game a lot, from what I've been able to play of it. :) However, in my case, it's not entirely a problem on Square Enix's end. My area is not exactly awash in broadband access, sadly, and no means of getting anything better than what I have.

Well that really sucks. The game is supposed to be around for years, so maybe you'll have a chance then. When patches and expansions get announced, I'm sure the internet will be all over the game again. Such a fickle crowd MMO players are.

I noticed some campers too and was not sure if getting back on today was going to be as easy as yesterday. But I'm happy to say no problems at all. I'm totally cool in Carbuncle and plan to stay for the long haul, just made level 10 and all kinds of cool stuff has opened up. Oh, uhm what is a linkshell? Also I'm slowly making my way out of Thanalas but I dont' know where Gridania is at just yet. I'm sure we'll meet up sooner or later.

A linkshell in FFXIV is a private chat group. If we're in the game at the same time you can /tell me or vice versa so I can send you an invite to the linkshell I created. You can also add me to your friends list. You can do a friend search in one of the menu options and try to add me. If we're in the same linkshell we can chat no matter where we are. Right now I'm in Gridania leveling a conjurer, so we can meet up when we get our boarding passes.

Are you new to this game? Basically, you need to keep progressing your class quests and story quests, i forget which? I think it's the story ones that have the gold sun logo over the NPCs. After about level 15 you receive a boarding pass to ride the airship to the other 2 cites to unlock them. For you after Uldah, you will be visiting Gridania and Limsa Lominsa. After this happens you will be able to pay to fly to either of the cities whenever you want. After about level 10-15, you can take on any other class you want too. You can go to whatever class guild and just join and you'll begin class quests for those guilds too.

I'll be on again tomorrow afternoon and evening. I'm trying to get my CONJ to 20 so I can get my mount already. What is your char name so I can add?

Yeah, I'm still pretty green, lol. My character name is Hestor Grimulys. Also My PSN ID is sifusong78, I'll send a friend request if you don't beat me to it. Been focusing on leveling my pugilist skill so I've only been playing story misions when I have done everything else. But I'm making decent progress. I'll be on tomarrow.
