I just saw this news update today. Sony is releasing a $100 console that lets you play PS VITA games on a TV via HDMI cable. Interesting. PS Vita TV launches in Japan on November 14.

How about a Vita with built in storage and SD card slot.

They announced a Vita 2000 with, wait for it...... a whole GB of internal storage. No SD card slot but you will be able to get a 64 GB proprietary card that you will probably have to mortgage the house for.

Damn. a whole GB? Man I have to trade mine in now to get it...NOT!

Yeah it's not like 16 or even 32 GB would have been a big expense so I'm not sure why they did it. OK, that's not true I know exactly why. To force people to buy their stupidly expensive proprietary cards. They also gave the new model a cheap screen which is probably nowhere close to the quality of the OLED screen.

You do realize the reason for the expensive memory cards is to offset the production cost of the actual system that they sell to you for cheaper than it costs to make? That's the exact same reason why the new model, along with being lighter and thinner, has an LCD screen. It's to make it cheaper for the consumer. They're even cutting the prices of the memory cards, once again, because of the cheaper version coming out. And you only need a big memory card if you download your games, which the majority of can be bought physically too. The only game I've payed for and downloaded (apart from some PSP games that I had transferred from my PSP to my Vita) is the Atelier Totori package. You don't HAVE to download the games, so if money is an issue, pay the $15-20 for the cheapest card so you can save stuff (which is why they put on the 1gb of internal storage), and just keep your games physical. Simple solution.

Not altogether true, if you are a PS Pus member they have some good games for download that take up a bit of space. If they had went with the SD card slot they could have save the money they used to make the proprietary cards. Also 1 GB of space on the system is a joke, I will stick with the Vita I have now and just take advantage of the cheaper memory cards and have a better handheld then a cheaper crappy version.

I think you're missing the point. The system itself cost more to make than you bought it for. That's why they have the proprietary memory cards. That way, you can use the system, but if you want a lot of downloaded stuff, you need to buy the cards which ends up bringing the price you payed for the system closer to its production value. I too am a PS+ subscriber. I manage just fine with either a 6 or 8gb card though. It's because after I play through a game on my Vita, I delete it. I can always redownload it if I want to play it again. I've downloaded things such as Black Rock Shooter, Persona 3 Portable, etc, and played through them and then deleted it from my card. It's no big deal. It's not like I'm going to be playing 5 different games at the same time. Heck, you can still get the free games with PS+ without downloading them, so it's not like you miss out on anything either.

Okay, I get it. You are right and I am wrong. Sorry for making a comment...

BTW, The Vita production cost is $160 per unit....

Love it when they half ass their portables. No wonder they play second fiddle.

How is making another option for playing the games of one console going halfway on it? If they wanted, they could do a Microsoft and say "If you don't like it, we have the PSP over there for you", but nope. They think of a way to widen the availability and audience of the system, and make it so you can get it for half the price while being able to play it on the tv and remote play your PS4 games from any tv in the house. Think of it this way: Which would you prefer, the Vita TV or the 2DS? Kinda a no contest situation, eh?

Actually I'd say 2DS looks much better. Since it has a much better library now and many more games announced for the future.

I wasn't referring to Vita TV. I think it's a cool concept. I'm talking about the regular Vita. It's an ill conceived portable that isn't making them money.

It would be pointless even responding to greenman, as thinking the 2DS is a great idea is just a clear cut sign of thinking everything Nintendo does is great. But the Vita and Vita TV are now one in the same. The Vita TV will even have almost, if not all, of the same UI as the regular Vita, just on the TV. The Vita isn't ill-conceived, so much as it's more just something that at it's price point and targeted audience, is clear to struggle in America. Vita and PSP do GREAT in Japan, because they play a lot of handhelds and have a more compact environment so you can run into people more who are playing games like that. One of those examples is Monster Hunter. Here in the West, just like the DS, the 3DS gets many of its sales from the casual market. The Vita has more niche games and core gamer games, which isn't as large of a population. What needs to be done is get more Western developers working on the Vita (which is slowly happening) and bring over some of the big-name games from Japan that would surely sell, just corporate politics and all make it a hassle. I have a Vita, and love it. It works great, has beautiful graphics on an amazing screen, and is easy to use. But, at the same time, I'm a (hard)core and niche gamer who gets things such as Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, Ragnarok Odyssey, etc.

The Vita is not ill-conceived. It's a great device, at an admittedly high-end price for a handheld (which has been remedied some), that just got poor support from SCEA and western developers. Place the "blame" where it belongs, instead of dragging down a good console that more people should get to experience.

I just think that the design of the thing is horrible. It doesn't feel right at all.

Makes sense. It feels great in my hands, though, so I don't notice it. That's common with me though. I hear many people say the PS3 controller is too small for their hands, but it's perfect for me and I love it. I think Sony products just have a bit more of the smaller crowd in mind since they're Japan-based. Since most Americans are taller and proportionately have larger hands, it would make sense then.

I would say its a great design. If you want to go by bad design, look at every Nintendo handheld. None of them were designed well but are incredible based off of software. The design of the Vita and its compabilities are not the problem. Its a incredible piece of hardware. A steady stream of incredible software to go along with it is the problem.

It reminds me of the gameboy player for SNES and the gameboyadvance player for gamecube. I kind of want this. Persona4 will look so awesome.

I hope it does well. I would love for it to mean more Vita owners to buy its software. But personally, I could not want this thing any less. Vita's so software deprived at this point I'm wanting to Vita version of indie games just to play something on the hardware. Without the hardware, I'd rather just play on my PS3/360/PC.

I actually quiet excited for this, When this releases and I have Toukiden, it will make it much more fun to play since it will be on the big screen!

I like the Vita TV, and I will probably get one around the same time I will pick up a PS4.

As for a new Vita, I get what they are doing, and with a bunch of memory cards dropping in price, I see it as a good time for someone who is on the fence about the handheld, to make an investment. Having more storage would be nice, but I'm happy with my 8GB stick.

Is having the OLED screen that much better than LCD? This is making me worried. Maybe I should get a Vita now before they replace it with the cheaper model.

This could be a nice alternative for those who want to play Vita games but for those who don't have enough for a Vita. I didn't see a slot of Vita games though unless I missed it.

It looks really nice, but I'd rather have the portable version for $100 more. Gravity Rush is my most wanted game on that system and I know it's unplayable on the Vita TV. I also feel like the poor thing would collect dust next to a PS4.

Hell yeah.  I can play my 1 vita game without buying a actual vita and it would only cost me $100.  I would much rather play my games on a big screen.
