October in Your Pocket: Costume Quest

In October 2010 Double Fine released the quintessential Halloween game: Costume Quest. A game about trick-or-treating, dressing up in costumes (to gain super powers, of course), and fighting monsters, Costume Quest is an RPG that plays kind of like a cross between Dragon Quest and Mario & Luigi. Originally released on PSN and XBLA, it has since come to Windows, Mac, Linux, and, as of last Thursday, iOS. The release of Costume Quest onto the App Store took everyone by surprise but what a wonderful addition it is! $4.99 will get you the main game and another $1.99 will snag you the "Grubbins on Ice" DLC pack, making this by far the cheapest way to get the whole experience (Steam, for instance, will run you $15). If you still need convincing, check out the old 1UP review. They liked it Smile

Sure, I wish Double Fine would make some more DLC—a new pack for every Halloween would be great!—but just having such a great and seasonally appropriate game on the go is awesome. And who knows, if this incarnation of the game does well, maybe we will see some more. Here's to Contume Quest and its continued success!

Always wanted to play this. Maybe I'll get it on Halloween.

It would be an excellent choice Smile

this is definitely on my "must play" list.  I was impressed by the Cave, and want to check this out for sure.

My wife also bought Stacking and really liked it but I haven't touched that yet lol

Stacking is great. Like pretty much everything Double Fine.

Stacking is another one I really want to play.

It's innovative, funny and it makes you smile. All the things I love in a game.

Stacking: Exploding farts, worth it for that alone.

I missed out on this one.  Never had the time to play it.

You should try to squeeze it in, Cary. It's not a terribly long game.

I bought this game on XBL a while back.  I played it a bit.  One of these days I'll get back to it.

This is the perfect time of year to play it Smile

I really enjoyed this game when I played it a couple years ago.  It actually brought back the feeling I used to have when I was younger and would be so excited to dress up and go trick-or-treating.  Halloween has always been my favorite holiday due to the spooky decorations, pumpkins, and costumes.  I might have to play it again in the next couple weeks.

And that's exactly the feeling the developers were going for Smile

It is awesome that they are releasing these games on iOS, but I have been having difficulty playing games on iOS lately.

I've had trouble playing anything lately. Heck, I still haven't finished Shin Megami Tensei IV (this week for sure!).

Yea, I just saw Costume Quest is out for iOS today.

I don't know how I missed this earlier. I love this game! I bought it the day it dropped on XBLA. I also have Stacking, which is a great game, too.

My wife bought Stacking too but I still need to find time to play it Undecided

Nice but I want this on my android though I wonder how they handle the controls, my main gripe. I had this game on my list last year and it's one I wouldn't mind revisiting if they released more DLC to continue the story. Or a whole different story would be better. I'm going to be sure to get this game off PSN since it's now on sale this week!

What, Android? Pfft! Who uses those? Tongue Out

Seriously, though, it's come to pretty much every other platform, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time. And I do wish they'd make some more DLC for it. Maybe once they've got nowhere else to port it.

That is a heck of a deal.  I played through Costume Quest last Halloween and played Grubbins around Christmas time.  I have since recommended it to everybody who will listen.

I'm surprised it's so cheap but I'm certainly not complaining Laughing
