Why is Tactics Ogre amy all time favorite well thats hard to say in one sentence, the game wasoriginally released by Quest in 1995 on the super famicon in japan and then re-released on the sega saturn in 1996 and the playstation in 1997. An enhanced port of the game developed by the original development team was released on February 15 2011 for the psp in some regions notable japan the remake was retitled as Tactics Ogre: wheel of fate.

Though let us cling together is the second entry released in the Ogre battle franchise, it featured dramatically different gameplay than its predecessor while ogre battles: march of the black queen was more akin to a grand strategy rpg, let us cling together was more intimate squad based isometric tactical rpg. Let us cling together, then launched a sub series whithin the franchise with Tactics ogre being used to distinguish the two forms of gameplay in later sequels(notable tactics ogre the knight of lodis.

So now that you understand the history of Tactics Ogre let me just say that the size of this game is massive over a 100 hours and thats is you dont grind and train your crew, the graphics in the psp is alot better then the older versions although I am partial to the snes version and I own the original playstation black version and I payed about 80 bucks for a used game about a year ago so lord knows what there going for now upwards of a 100 plus im guessing.

But any way just wanted to let you all know about the best srpg ever and thats an opinion but to me its the best first only to final fantasy tactics which is another awesome game but I will cover that in another blog at a later date.

I've only played the PSP version, but it's one of my favorite games ever too. So much content!  Just a great, great game.

I'm not into SRPGs, but I bet my SO is and would probably love both of these games.

I admire this series but I can't say I enjoyed my attempts to play it. Good article, though.

I played the PSP version as well and I was obsessed with this game. I easily put in those 100 hours. I love this style of game - FF Tactics is my personal fave - and I was right at home with this game. That's of course due to the fact that Square scooped up the makers of this game from Quest to make FFT.

I've actually never played the original PSX version (in NA anyway). That's something I'll have to add to the list!

This was of the few turned based tactical rpgs that dug its' nails in deep with me! I think anyone who enjoyed FF Tactics should give this a whirl as well.

Yes Square learned how to make the best tactical game from Quest I do wish they would release a 360/PS3 version new or a remake would suffice :-)

I wish I had more time to Play SRPGs.  I bought Final Fantasy Tactics one time not understanding the work involved in playing through an SRPG.  I had to put it down after only 2 battles with took me about 20 minutes to win finally.

Strategy role playing games are a required taste and not for everyone, that being said they are extremely rewarding if you take the time to figure them out and be patient with them, Final Fantasy Tactics is my second favorite game of all time and I would recommend it to anyone, and if you still have it, its an awesome story and very difficult at times, and Tactics Ogre is even more harder, on a lighter note I never understood why they call it Tactics Ogre and not Ogre Tactics lol!!!

Hm. I never played that game because I got addicted to FF Tactics for so long. I did play The Knight of Lodis, though. I saw the PsP version in Gamestop not too long ago for less than $20. I guess I better snatch it up before someone else does!
