Saturday Surprise

Well, it looks it’s that time of year to shop for deals for the holiday season.  Between everyone’s bargain shopping of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I actually came away with a rather interesting find this past Saturday.  The wife and I decided to go into a nearby Value Village thrift store and kill some time before taking care of a few things in the morning.  I knew I would find much in the way of video games.  Even if I did, I probably wouldn’t want to buy it since thrift stores are too organized in their pricing nowadays (they’re getting smarter about retro games).  Anyways...what I did find was this, nestled amongst other music CDs:

It’s the soundtrack to Mobile Suit Gundam Victory (or Gundam V for short)!  At first, I just casually checked the back of the case, saw the Japanese writing, and put it back on the shelf.  “I’m not looking for music”, I said to myself.  Still, I just couldn’t leave it alone.  Granted, I’ve never seen the show before, and I usually don’t bother buying OST’s (except Street Fighter 3rd Strike and Ridge Racer Type 4).  The only real familiarity I have with the Gundam series is Gundam Wing and that Endless Waltz movie I’m sure everybody has seen by now, thanks to Cartoon Network.

Having said all that, I’m standing there in the thrift store deciding if I should get this or not.  Then it just occurred to me-- what are the odds that an import CD like this would end up in a random place like this?  “What the heck”, I said.  I figured it would make for a neat little novelty for myself.  Turned out to be only $2 anyway.  It just didn’t seem right to let it sit there, without a home or car to be played in.  I have no idea what the soundtrack is like-- I haven’t played it yet.  But I plan on finding out soon.  The disc doesn't have a scratch to be found.  Looks brand new.  I also opened the cover/booklet and discovered that is full of original artwork from the show (no pictured in this post unfortunately). Bonus!

So that was my litle purchase over the weekend.  Once it was in my hands, I just knew I had to share it with you guys.  I’m curious to know if any of you have this as well.  I have no clue about Gundam Victory’s popularity (or lack thereof).

was that ever aired in the US?  I know Cartoon Netwoork aired another Gundam series other than Wing, but I never watched that one.

Gundam Wing and G Gundam were the only ones I ever saw. Those are some cool shows though. DId you ever play the SNES game based off Gundam Wing?

Never had the pleasure of playing Gundam Wing on the SNES.  I'll have to find the ROM for it since I no longer have my SNES.

It's so satisfying when you find something cool at a Thrift store. I used to go to them all the time. Not so much anymore though.

I agree.  And what made the purchased so special to me was that I wasn't looking for it in the first place.  I just happened to pick it up in a sea of music CDs.  I love a good, quriky find.

Nice find! Thrift Stores are starting to catch on with their media in general (records jumping in price, and games that used to be $1.99 are now 4 and 5 bucks). You can't go wrong on a CD for $2 bucks. If anything its new music to check out.

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion as well.  Why fight it?  Just buy it.

I thought the same thing until I found this.  You never know what could turn up at one of those things.

Cool, man! We hit up the Goodwills around here sometimes. (By the way, that's "hit up" as in "peruse their stuff" and not "take their money" lol.) Never seen anything like that, though I have found some good games, like Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion for $3 each. Things are definitely cheaper when they look like DVDs lol.

I've never seen any of the Gundam shows though. We had a couple Gundam action figures when I was a kid but that's just because they were cool robots.

If I found something like that I'd jump on it in a hot minute. I wish I could find something cool like that in my thrift stores. All I've seen so far is an original PS2 with no cords for 9.00 and a Wii with all cords for 39. Boring :(
