Operation Darkness is a sleeper game that got bad reveiws by reveiwer who know nothing about strategy games, and although this game did have some issues none were as bad as the reveiws suggest,I cant express enough about reveiws there opinions and I have so many freinds who passed on playing this because of the bad reviews, after some convincing they gave it a try and absolutely loved it. Yes the camera is a little wishy washy but that doesnt make the game bad, first off it has a story based on ww2 and has a wicked tale of Hitler and vampires of all things but very entertaing to say the least.

So heres a little history on this great game that was deemed so bad, Operation Darkness is a tactical role playing game better known as an srpg for the xbox 360 developed and published by Japanese studio Success on October 11 2007 in Japan. A north american version was released on June 24 2008 by Atlus. The game is a fantasy conception of World War 2 featuring weaponry and events from that time period, but with fantasy elements such as dragons mixed in.

Gameplay consist of a series of tactical battles, between battles the player may resupply the characters, purchase new weapons or items, and select which characters will particapate in the following missions. Battles play out in standard tactical role playing game fashion, with turn order based on characters speed statistics. During a turn characters can move, attack, use items, pick up items off of dead soldiers, and cast spells. The battle system also includes factors like cover and decreased accuracy from movement, and unlike most games like this far accuracy seems to be better then close range accuracy.

At any rate this is just another example of a good game getting crappy reviews by reviewers who have no buisness reveiwing the game especially when they no nothing about strategy, and if you do find the reveiws like armchair general and the like you will see they gave the game an honest review and more on track then the others. So in short this is an awesome game and not without its flaws but certainly not to the extreme as some of these game reviews, but worthy of your time for sure.

Though I don't like RTS, I feel your pain in disagreeing with reviewers about things. Though my tastes usually fall in line with the review aggregate sites for the most part, there's always the one or two where I say "oh come on, that wasn't so bad," or "that was amazing and you're all wrong!" or "that was terrible, stop sucking the production company off with your reviews."

Just tell your friends to always remember that the scores don't really matter to you as a consumer, so much as why they are what they are.

Roger Ebert didn't like Kick-Ass because of Hit Girl and its offensiveness, I loved it because of Hit Girl and its offensiveness.

Reviewers are people too, and different things bother them than what bothers you; always at least skim the text when using reviews to help your decision.

Of course, it's also possible that a lot of these sites are short-staffed, and the game was reviewed by people like me that don't like the genre, anyway. Unprofessional, but it happens.

Interesting! Turns out I missed this game because I was on deployment. I will have to check into it. SRPGs get a bad rap sometimes because they are automatically judged against FF Tactics, aka: the best one. Even the advance games were lackluster compared to that gem.

Oh and Joe for the record its an srpg not an Rts im not to partial to rts games cause I like to take my time when strategizing look at ruse I loved it but online I sucked cause I couldnt get my strategys as quick as my oponent but with that said, Yes I agree with the reveiw thing and personally I never base a purchase on reveiws on the other hand if I see a game on ten or more reveiws, with horrible reveiws like battle ship I bought it thinking it looked cool but after reading about twelve crappy reveiws I took it back and got hitman trilogy which I might add im sooooooo glad I did lol

I really enjoyed the demo of this game, but never picked it up. It's similar to a lot of early Japanese-developed games that came out around 2005-2007: interesting ideas with graphics and design decisions that were decidedly last gen. That doesn't make it a game to be avoided though-I have a ton of "B" games that I've had a blast with.

I played the demo. It was interesting enough, but I pretty much dismissed it as a poor man's Valkyria Chronicles. I suppose I was part of the problem.

You know, I almost picked this up then put it back on the shelf based on reviews. I may give it a shot after all.
