In short, GBA on WiiU is great! No, really!

Howdy folks!

So I've been griping about GBA games on WiiU and the fact that they really belong on 3DS, however after spending a few hours with Metroid Fusion I have to say that I really love the emulator.

The thing is that it is possible to just download these roms from any site and play them on emulators on PC of course, or if you are savvy try for emulators on your phone or tablet like many folks do. But I digress.

The fact is that I dont like looking at tiny screens and dont want to play portable games on my computer screen-- I really need proper controls to play these older games and the gamepad is perfect for me. The GBA games are blown up a bit on the gamepad, but they look really good! You can play on the gamepad or TV, which is considerably more pixelated (on TV). I don't mind pixels or pixel art really. I say the more pixels the better. I panick if I don't see pixels in retro games. I actually prefer the blocky pixels than the smoother iphone retro games like FF4 and such( abomination art). You can also smooth the visual with settings, but I prefer the old school look.

So yeah, I will be purchasing more GBA games for WiiU in the near future. I've been enjoying playing on the gamepad more than I though I would.

Next up "Golden Sun" and possibly "Mario & Luigi RPG".

I hope we get Golden Sun 2 or maybe Final Fantasy Tactics  Advance or the GBA Final Fantasy games.

By the way, Metroid Fusion is SO good! SO good! Oh my god, it came out in 2002, and god I'm getting old!

I hate to say it, but I really want a Wii U just to play Metroid Fusion on something other than a GBA.  I agree so good... but at the same time I am a bit biased towards the game.

I honestly would not recommend buying a WiiU just to play one GBA game. Its an option that is available to me because I happen to have a WiiU, but otherwise I would have downloaded a ROM and played GBA games on my PSP. The WiiU gamepad screen is considerably larger than PSP, which is why I purchased the game for $8. I love all the metrod games and also have the greatest "Super Metroid( SNES)" on WiiU as well and it is too awesome on gamepad. Now if only Nintendo would add Metroid Zero Mission on WiiU and some GBA Castlevania games... You have good taste in games my friend if you hold Metroid Fusion with high regard!Cool

I want a wii u regardless.

Fusion is one of my all time favorite games.  I replay it constantly and practically have the game memorized.

When I want to play Metroid Fusion on my big screen, I just pop it in the Game Boy Player underneath my Gamecube. I don't know what it costs now, but it was $30 around when I asked for it for my birthday.

I hope we get the Tactics Ogre game and the Final Fantasy games.  Mario and Luigi is great.  Golden Sun isn't out yet though is it?  That's something I really want to play on the gamepad.

I think Golden Sun comes out later this month. I dont remember Ogre being on GBA? Wasnt it a N64 game? Anyhow, GBA is great on WiiU.

Interesting! I dont have faith in Nintendo when it comes to adding alot of games to their libraries though. What happened with Sega and all those Nintendo and SNES games? Yeah!

This'll be a cool way to play FF6 if the ever release it for the Wii U, it''l be like playing the SNES of yesteryear.

I'll be bying a Wii U for the new X game but this'll be cool.

Metroid Fusion was my first Metroid Game and got me into the franchise.

Fusion was released along with Metroid Prime. I also really like Zero Mission, but you should definitely play Super Metroid if you havent. Still holds up and the soundtrack is just as amazing as always.

I enjoyed playing my GBA games on my GameCube GBA Player, so I imagine I wouldn't have any problems playing them on Wii U as well.

Same here. I loved the GBA player. I love the GBA emu on WiiU!

I have Metroid Fusion on GBA. It sounds like it would be really cool on the Wii-U gamepad. If they start releasing games I don't have yet, then I'll get on board. I need another reason to pick up a Wii-U,

Actually, the bigger screen of the gamepad made it worth a second purchase. I already have the GBA game, but that tiny GBA screen is painful.

I can imagine that to be true. I can't wait to pick up a Wii-U soon. Maybe if they do a special edition again that'll get me on one. I almost bit when the Zelda Wind Waker one was out.

I read a lot of good things about Wind Waker HD-- and that it was alone worth the purchase of a system. I actually really liked the New Super Mario Bros U and ZombiU, and Monster Hunter but thats me. Honestly the gamepad screen play is underrated, I love it. Not all games support it though, like I dont think the New Donkey Kong supports the little screen. I think?

The gamepad does seem underused on that system. It should do everything a tablet can do and run all sorts of games on its own. What up Nintendo?

I blame the fans on that one. Games like Monster Hunter let you play on the small screen as well as the TV, or just use the gamepad for inventory. While games like ZombiU let you use the pad for inventory and radar for avoiding zombies. A lot of people complained about the unessential need for the gamepad all together and thus games like Donkey Kong dont utilize the gamepad at all. Also, Virtual console games on the gamepad are freaken sweet! But yeah the gamepad is underpowered compared to tablets.

Oh cool, you can play Virtual Console games there. I remember the Batman Arkham City (or was it Asylum) that had gamepad use that I liked.

I'd much rather my Wii U played DS and 3DS games.  I have a GB Player for my GC to play GBA games and my Ouya and my modded XB can easily play GBA roms.

This is the very reason I had when I got the GBA player for the Gamecube. Unfortunatley my Cube died leaving my GBA player sitting idle. Nice to see they added this feature to the WiiU. I figured they would make a DS player for the Wii but it never happend.

Dang it Nintendo, you'd have more of my money if you would just add this to the 3DS.

Jealous of Wii U owners for having this ability. Maybe at some point after I get a PS4, I would buy a Wii U.

Glad to see it's great. Now, if they add the Sonic Advance games, i'll be in paradise.
