Finally...I Beat Final Fantasy VII

Well, it was a long time coming, but I reached my life-long dream of beating Final Fantasy VII last night! So why is this a big deal to me?

Well, FF7 was the first RPG I ever saw many moons ago when a friend had it on a Squresoft demo disc on the PlayStation (and thanks to Sony's aggresive ad campaigne at the time).  Prior to then, while I has definitely heard of the final fantasy series before, I never knew what they were about.  Nor did I know anything about what an RPG was.  But after my friend showed me what FF7 was like in-game, I was hooked from the first battle sequence.

Ironically, my first RPG purchase was Star Ocean: 2nd Story and I didn't pick up FF7 until quite a few years down the road.  Once I got my hand on it, I started off strong, but kinda fell off from the game after reaching disc 2.  I started and stopped the game at least twice that I can remember over a period of years.

But I knew I had to finish this game!  I owed it to FF7 to beat it because this game opened up my gaming insterest beyond platforming and racing.  It was shown a whole new world.  And last night, I finally got the closure I needed to a wonderful chapter in my gaming life!

So just out of curiosity, did you know what happened at the end before you beat it? I'm guessing yes, because I've found spoilers for the game unavoidable, and I've never played it, nor am I a mark for JRPGs.

Actually, no I didn't know how the game ended.  The biggest spoiler that most people mention is the now famous death scene of Aries.  Nobody really mentioned other story elements of the characters or the ending itself.

Oh ... ok, I thought Aries was the big one, so did you know that part? I guess I don't know the ending either, since there's more than just that part. lol

Oh yeah dude...somtime in the late 90's I remembered reading about Aeris' death in PSM magazine.  They were running some sort of "best of" list, and they mentioned the scene in FF7 for being quite an emotional moment that could make you cry.  And ever since then, I'd always end up seeing something about it on forums and other places.  So by the time I got to play it years later, it wasn't a suprise to me.  Kinda wish I played it back in the day though.

I still haven't finished this game. I've even been to the final battle and after what seemed like hours I turned it off.

Yeah...that last battle can be a doozy.

If you spend those hours breeding chocobos to get the golden chocobo, you can get Knights of the Round (the most powerful summon in the game) and that makes the final boss pretty easy Smile But man, breeding those birds...that's tedious...

I want to say that FF VII was the first RPG that I actually beat.  Not saying that it was my first RPG, that was Dragon Warrior II...  or I.  I always seem to have difficulty finishing RPGs.

It's definitely become more difficult for me to play RPGs completely through due to time contrains with other important life stuff.  But I still make a way somehow.  I just take my time in smaller chunks.

Yeah, it's my favoriteof what i've played so far.  We'll see how I feel after I play FFX and IX.

Be sure and play FFXII too. That's my number-two Final Fantasy game.

Yeah, Angelo mentioned FF12 yesterday.  I might put that on my to-buy list.  However, I'm kinda cautiously holding out to see if Square does an HD Remaster of that game too.

Now watch Advent Children Complete and play Crisis Core to complete the trilogy! Cool

I felt the same way about FF9 when I beat it. I actually got introduced to RPGs the same way you did, just different game. I was at a family friends house and they had a playstation and FF9. She played it and I was hooked from the start. Im gad you completed your dream!

The game was definitely one of the better ones! Still playable today, even. The only negative I can think of is the character models outside of battle. So ugly, even back then. I suggest FFVI next, if you haven't already. The new iOS release is really good. =)

I appreciated FF7 for trying to do different things, but after I finished it, I decided that I really didn't like it very much.

Have you played FF6, FF4, or FF9?  Those are my favorites.

Did you hear that Square announed that the sequel to Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (the FF music game on 3DS) is coming to the US?  I really liked the first one.

Nice.  I still hadn't beat that game.  I would like to beat it, but I have a hard time looking at it.  I wish Square would redo that game.

Undecided Considering that you always play JRPGs and finish them, I expected you would have definitely beat FFVII.

Many of the old PS1 polygon graphics hurt my head looking at them.  I much rather the 2d games.  They still look beautiful.  Laughing

FFVII was my first FF experience too. But Chrono Trigger was what got me interested in playing FF. Admittedlly it took me about 5 year to beat FFVII. Mostly because I was a completionist and wanted to find and do everything (still have not beat Emerald or Ruby Weapon yet). And I stopped to play other stuff like Xenogears and Breath Of Fire III. But congrats, this game really does have a great ending, plus it alway feels good to finish a game.

It's hard to believe I beat this over a decade ago. I remember feeling late to the party even then. I think the game is still perfectly fine as is. Even when I first played twelve years ago, I remember thinking the game looked like a Super NES game (which in hindsight is pretty silly, considering all that 3D). It still became one of my favorite games.

Congrats, man! VI is my favorite FF but I can appreciate what VII did for gaming in general and RPGs in particular. It has some great moments too.

Awesome, Final Fantasy VII is my second favorite game of all time behind only the original Metal Gear Solid. Did you find all the level 4 limit breaks and get all their ulitmate weapons?

So much hidden stuff in that game, that is what I love about it. I put 90 hours a playthrough and beat it 3 times, so much more free time then!

I found everyone's final Limit Breaks, but by the time I reached the last boss, only Cloud was developed enough to use his.

I only bothered with getting the Ultimate weapons for the party that I wanted to fight Sepiroth.  It was on a time crunch and figured I could always play it again and then get everyones stuff.

I have this one on Steam, but I haven't given the game much hours sinceI haven't learned to put the pointer. Silly reason, but hey, i'm just like that I kinda hate to get lost in the controls.

Congratulations! You owed it to Tifa to finish the game. Now you can either move on to the rest of the games based on the FF VII series or try to beat the Ultimate Weapons in FFVII. I wonder if you had the same WTF moment the rest of us had at the end of the game. made me glad they released the CG movie Advent Children.

Yeah, the end cut-scene was a loittle baffling, but I was just happy to have finally beat the game.
