My MMO Summer 2014

This is the first time I didn't buy any games off of the Steam Sale. Probably because I already own the games that I was interested in. I haven't bought into "Next Gen" just yet. I'm still currently rockin' the 3DS, VITA and WiiU, and of course good old PC and tablet.

I've burnt out on much of my back catalog, so  I'm a bit more prepared to enter Next Gen now I suppose, but for the most part I've been keeping busy with MMOs. And I'm not even really an MMO guy. I've been picking away at a few of them at a time, which isn't as bad as it sounds. I just play an hour a day every other day and rotate games. I'm planning on sticking with these game because I enjoy them that much. So this will be a summer of MMOs I guess. I'll list a few of them off now.

#1 The Secret World

While this game needs to be purchased, the game doesnt require a subscription to play. I really love the narrative, environment and it's gear system which allows you to use any one of the 9 main weapons, (guns, magic, melee) and even duel wield with your main character, no alts needed. It has a modern setting and a dark/gothic/sci-fi theme, (zombies, zombie hordes, etc.) It's really great and as an RPG its pretty cool. I want to finish this game some day.

#2 Guild Wars 2

While most MMOs have a linear structure with occasional events, Guild Wars 2 has a Living Story and Seasons, and Season 2 is coming up! I was surprised to see a major center piece of the game world utterly destroyed in the events of the last season, so I am interested to see what goes on from there. You need to purchase to play, but no subscription needed. I will probably be playing this game for a long time as well.

#3 Lord of the Rings Online

I love the Lord of the Rings, and that is a major reason I love the game. It is a bit dated compared to other MMOs, but there are plenty of quests and familiar settings, narrative and characters to come across. This is a free to play game, so no purchase necessary and no subscription needed. I love it.

#4  Star Wars: The Old Republic

This game is free to play and no subsription necessary. I stopped playing for a while, but I just love Star Wars, and I love t his game. There is a Double XP "Week" starting July 1-7 so if you were ever interested or wanted to level alts, this would be the week to do it.

Honorable mentions:

#5 Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
I love this game, but I will wait for more content to justify a subscription. Nothing bad to say about it really. If I ever buy a PS4, I hope to buy this game and get back in.

I shall give an update on tablet games soon. What are some of your favorite MMOs?

I really want to get back into Secret World and FFXIV, but I need to wait until I have a better computer for both games.  I really like Secret World.  I like stuff like that.  I was really impressed with it when it came out, but my computer just couldn't handle it.

I really need to get into Guild Wars too.

Then you can join my one-player guild and represent! Seriously I wish Secret World was and RPG. Cool

Wii U is next-gen, at least I think so.

I ususally defend Nintendo on the "Next Gen" argument, but I honestly don't think most 3rd party games ever look as good as their counterparts on PS4 or XBox One. Nintendo makes gorgeous 1st party games, so I guess it's Nintendos Next Gen, or whatever. I love Wii U, so this argument is dumb.

My only experience with MMOs was playing World of Warcraft once and I do remember enjoying it.

Some of the ones here sound pretty awesome.

I still want to play Age of Empires Online. I'm not even sure if it's still around though.

I'd really like to get into MMOs, though I've yet to come across one that I've really been interested in trying out.
