So here I am again with another Nipon Ichi / NIS ps2 game and another good one especially if you like the Disgea series, phantom brave is a tactical role playing game or better known srpg, made for the ps2 developed and published by Nippon Ichi software, it was released on January 22 2004 in Japan, on August 31 2004 in north america and on February 4 2005 in Europe, the north american release by Nis america was originally set for June but due to manfacturing delays it was released on March 12 2009 in japan.

An expanded remake for the Wii titled Phantom Brave: we meet again was released on March 12 2009 in Japan and anither for the psp titled Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle while US players got both PSN and UMD versions of the game, players in Europe only got the PSN version. The player of phantom brave is a 14 year old girl named Marona, having lost both of her parents at a young age, Marona lives on Phantom Isle in the oceanic world of Lvoire whith a phantom named Ash, while ash was still alive, Ash worked along side with her deceased parents, as a chrma, a sort of bounty hunter or adventurer for hire.

As far as the game is concerned, Marona is the onky one able to see Ash in phantom form. as the gameplay goes it takes place on an isometric board Marona you place your phantom allies by confining them to objects on the feild such as tree's ,grass, rocks and flowers different objects grant different stat bonuses,to the character that are confined to them, for example a soldier is confined to a rock because of the rocks physical abilities, where a with would be better for a flower for obvious reasons, each phantom can only remain on the feild for a certain amount of turns, for an example a witch can only stay in play for three turns to where a soldier last eight, the number of turns a character cannstay is based on there class,up to 14 phantoms can be dispatched on any given battle.

So as you can see this is another NIS game that is different and kinda has that disgea artwork with it, the graphics are bright and colorful, the voice acting is like disgea with the same quirky acting were use to seing from NIS, anyway I have enjoyed playing this game and its definetly worth your time if you want a good solid srpg.

This game looks like my kind of RPG.  Very traditional in presentation.  I should get this sooner than later.

I'm glad to see that you're enjoying this game, Rodney.  I know I told you about some of the games more unusual gameplay mechanics and that I couldn't recommend it to you, but now I'm having second thoughts about the game myself.  I've been avoiding the game for silly reasons (it's not like losing hard-earned equipment is the end of the world), and I might go ahead and buy the PSP version.  These games lend themself very well to the portable format and it might be worth it for me to pick it up for future use.

Actually Jeffrey your the reason I bought this game because of the convo we had on 1up this and well i cant think of the name of the other game and the only reason I have not got that one yet is cause I cant find it, it reminds me of disgea propable because its NIS but thanks it is a really cool game, and yea you couldnt recommend it but you did say it was interesting and that was enough.

The other game was Makai Kingdom.  I know there's a bunch of copies floating around on Amazon, but I'm not sure if any of them are in the condition that you're looking for.

I'm a huge fan of SRPGs, but I played about 8 hours of this one before quitting. I was interested in the game because I read the game was really complex, allowing you to use anything on the map as a weapon and such. However, it wasn't very fun to play for me. I also found it too happy and colorful. Too many beaches and grassy plains for my liking. Glad you enjoyed it though.

yes it most definetly colorful to say the least but im a NIS fanatic so its hard for me not to like these kinds of games.

I never did play this one and I really love Disagaea so this is probably a game I'd enjoy a lot. I wish I had more time to play all the RPGs I'm interested in :(

I just picked up this game a couple weeks ago.  It was pretty cheap too.  Hopefully I can find the time to play it soon.
