The world is much greener when you avoid gaming sites. I bunkered down and played a few MMOs this summer, and I've actually stuck to playing some of them. I'm enjoying my game time. Every now and again I look on to gaming sites and forums, although I haven't been doing this in a while, to check up on the hype meter and I'm kind of tired of it. Titanfall and Destiny were supposed to change the world or whatever. It's like next gen is now and these games are it. I watched the games media hype the fuck out of these games only to watch everyone complaing about why the were so hyped to begin with. I'm not saying Titanfall and Destiny are bad. I just don't want to play those games. I'm more excited about Bloodborne on PS4 as well as some Type0 action and maybe that new Kingdom Hearts HD. I'm just saying I saved myself a lot of money and gaming time by ignoring the hype machine.

I'm sure Titanfall and Destiny are great games. They just received way to much attention from everyone that I feel some other games have been passed over.

Confusing info from game sites.
Hyrule Warriors.
A. It's a Dynasty Warriors game with a Zelda skin. It's a shitty cash grab.
B. Zelda fans should play it. It's actually a really fun Zelda game.

Shadow of Mordor.
A. It's a shitty licensed game that has nothing to do with Lord of the Rings.
B. It's a great action game with great combat and new mechanics and a preview of what next gen games should be. Also plays like Arkham and is really fun.

Smash Bros.
A. No one playes fighting games anymore. Its the same shit. Nintendo just puts out the same shit all the time.
B. The game is actually pretty great and fun. You can now play a Smash Bros game on a portable and it works great.

We've been through this "Don't trust reviews" shit before, but I had to vent...I actually haven't played any of these new games, so I can't really discuss them. I'm actually pretty hyped for MMO patches.

Star Trek Online is getting a Voyager update with original cast which sounds really cool.
Rift is getting an update with more new content called Nightmare Tide.
The Secret World is doing an annual Halloween Event which seems pretty fun.
ArchAge is still new and I'm still playing.
Best of all, all this stuff is free!

P.S.

Twin Peaks is getting a full 3rd season written and directed by David Lynch himself!!! Coming 2016!

Tbh, I haven't heard the A's for most of those games. I haven't heard many people say it's a shitty cash grab about Shadow's of Mordor or that No one plays fighting games about Smash. Unless you're reading the comments.

It's from a collection of podcasts, forums and news sites which are mostly negative about everything that isn't AAA. But the podcasts and forums are from news sites as well. Nintendo games get a bad wrap in general.

How do forums count? In general, forums are filled with idiots. Taking their opinion on anything is kind of like sticking your dick in a blender.

I don't agree with you entirely. While there are a lot of idiots on forums, not all forums are the same. USGamer writers tend to carry the discussion for their articles into their forums/comments section which are usually civil. As well as Joystiq. There are thoughtful posters every now and again. Even on IGN there is a bit of controversy over their low score for Alien:Isolation, and while a lot of commentors disagree with the low score, they are making their case without being too dicky about it.

Out of curiousity, what do you think about the comments on IGN regarding Alien:Isolation? It seems that the consensus on the game is to buy it?

The day that review came out I spent large chunks of my time essentially telling the commenters they were entitled cunts, that they hadn't played the game, that reviews are subjective, that reviews are opinions...

My reviews are biased blog is entirely about the response that review got, and I think it's fucking shameful.

Yes. I'm going to buy the game, because I've been looking forward to it and it looks like my kind of thing, but it's not everyones. The worst part is that no one on that thread had even played the fucking game.

I mean the review is truthful in that the reviewer honestly hated it and made his point about why. A lot of comments came from people who only barely played the game, true. I plan on playing the game as well regardless of that review. But this is my main point, that this game was heavly inflated and then shot down. It feels like it's being done deliberately for attention some times. I'm not completely against gaming sites. I just try to avoid from time to time. I liked Joystiq.com review better. They gave it like a 9 or something. http://www.joystiq.com/2014/10/03/alien-isolation-review-escape-claws/

No, I don't think they do it for attention. This guy has clear likes and dislikes, and he explained quite well why he hated this game. The same reasons he hated it were listed on other reviews, like Jim Sterling's who said despite it's glaring issues it will be one of his favourite games of the year. Having watched gameplay videos, there does seem to be some huge problems with it. Enough to warrant that low of a score? Maybe not, but that was the reviewers opinion.

Sorry, but as someone who gets paid to write reviews I often jump on the defensive of other reviewers. A lot of people wouldn't have gall to give this game such a low score. If they had these feelings, they would have given it an 8, or a 7, because they would have been afraid of gamers jumping down their throat for it.

I mean come on. Does IGN really need attention? Their reviews are usually the first thing that pops up when you google a game name. I doubt they need this kind of publicity tp function.

man I am so excited about this Twin Peaks news.  I feel like the whole world is sane again like it was when I was a teenager.  Laughing

Actually, I had my doubts about Titanfall too, but after playing it, it's pretty great.  It should not have been an exclusive though, it would have been bigger.

Arche Age looks good, but I can't really commit to an MMO.  Looks cools though.

The only bad thing about more Twin Peaks is the long wait. 2016? God dammit! I'm glad it is a continuation of the show and not a reboot or re-imagining or whatever. There's rumors that old cast members might return!

that would be awesome!!!!  As long as they have the original Dale, I could deal with anybody.

Shadow of Mordor is actually not super horrible but it does have its horrible side. It's like Assassins Creed 1 but a bit better but has the same shitty I run into a wall....I am stuck and can jump over hay...or I am stealthing and somehow glued to the wall now.

I'm always a smash bros fan but I tried it on the 3DS and didn't like it, not the same feeling of it being on the big screen and playing it that way.

Destiny is fun but I don't think it was changing the world haha. It's just another shooter game to me and it's more fun to play with friends.

But yeah sometimes I hate when you can't tell how a game is from a review so what I typically do it watch Twitch...or youtube and see how the game is that way.

This is more along the lines of what I was talking about. I feel like I can make a more informed decision from gamers experience rather than game critics. A few sites that I follow really don't like Lord of the Rings at all. Not the films or novels, so they were down on this game from the get go. It turns out that the LOTRO connection doesn't play into the game too much and it's just a fun game. Same with Hyrule Warriors. I listen to a Nintendo podcast and they were pretty down on the Dynasty Warriors game but then loved the new Zelda game? They spent months convincing me that this game would be garbage without ever playing it only to change their minds after trying it. I thought Smash Bros was fine in the 3DS demo. I would love to play it on the big screen as well.

I'm with you. I feel like my time is better spent watching playthroughs and interacting with gamers in chat.

I would say you should just visit GamerDad.com for all your gaming needs, but that would be selfish of me since it's just me pooping out game reviews there.  Yeah there's not really a good gaming news site that I know of right now.  I'll take suggestions.

You love Disney stuff but have no Infinity reviews? Outrage?! Even I have Infinity toys lying around and I don't love Disney that much.

I reviewed the first Disney Infinity but my Disney contact either moved on or lost his job or something because I can't get a hold of him to request a review copy of Disney Infinity 2.0.  But I SHOULD be getting a review copy of the new Skylanders game soon, which is OK since I like that franchise better anyway.

I generally ignore media hype and listen to what my friends are saying. One of the benefits to blogging on a site like Pixlbit.

Ehh, I started to ignore the big sites since two years or so.

Also, have people even said that first Smash Bros comment? That reecks idiocy.

To be honest, I like Smash Bros., but for people like me who aren't getting into a tournament any time soon, the gameplay does tend to feel pretty same-y from game to game. Still, having a Smash Bros. on a portable sounds pretty cool.

Shadow of Mordor is getting a lot of good mentions lately. Apparently it's really awesome.

7 of 9! I liked Voyager, such a fun show.

As for the topic of game reviers, I see it as this: they are fun to skim through, but if there is a game I might be interested in, I'll check out the demo, or wait to see what "regular" people think about it when it is released.

I normally don't buy games when they are released but when I tried out the Destiny Beta I enjoyed what I played so that's what sold me. Everyone else on the planet was claiming it to do everything but when it was finally released, I saw people complain about it.
