My Alien Isolation Desolation :(

It pains me to say that I had to quit on a new game this year that I was actually enjoying. I ran into a wierd bug where the game just gets locked into a menu screen. On top of that, this game has no checkpoints. The only way to save in this game is through standard save points and you can't F5 or menu save whenever you want either.

The first time I died and had to backtrack and redo everything exactly the same was the first time I was taken out of the games immersive world completely, and then it just became a repetative game. It was a bit jarring. This game design is reminiscent of older games where you had to survive to the next save point to progress. Granted, I've played Dark Souls and it has a similar type of system so it doesn't completely bother me, but if there is a horrible glitch that forces a reload and retread through the same content, well then I have to forfeit. While I enjoyed my time with the game, I can't go on like this. Imagine playing a game like Dark Souls where you make tons of progress but only to be forced to reload a save because you got stuck in an inventory menu, and it happens constantly. That's my predicament.

I'm not bitching about the gameplay. The game is quite awesome and I'll eventually return to it when it goes on sale or something, but at the moment my hard drive space is too precious and I need to move on with other games. If you are playing or have played the game then I am jealous. It is my type of game, but I have to pass on it for now.

Back to Mordor and Borderlands for me. Oh, and The Evil Within was totally rad so don't feel bad for me. I've had my fill of scary games for now!

I'm also trying out that new Civ: Beyond Earth. It's a neat game. I haven't played Empire Building games ever, except for Star Wars Commando on iPad. I also purchased Castlevania: Lament of Innocense on PSN. It's pretty cool. I've been looking for it forever.

Yeah alien seems cool but frustrating.  Bugs like that are unforgiveable though.

Even if the game was patched, I've wasted so much time just replaying that I really don't want to play it any more. I'll just spend time away from it and revisit some other time.

I remember really liking Lament of Innocence on PS2 despite so-so reviews.

I've heard the save system in Alien: Isolation is a bit of a sore spot even without the glitch you experienced. I take it you were playing on PC given the F5 reference.

Lament of Innocense is good. It's a bit dated, but I like old games.

I was playin A:I on PC. Even still, there are console games that let you save in menu too so I didn't differentiate.

I like that Alien Isolation screen shot. It's how I feel right now - minus any alien presence.

You mean you feel lonely or are you playing the game right now?

Just lonely and looking out two large windows just like the character in the picture.

I was lucky I never had a single issue with Alien Isolation. But I have some huge bugs in my game of Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare that have made me stop playing it. I really wanted to play that expansion too.

Bugs in games are a freaking pain! I ran into one or two in Star Wars Commander and they drive you nuts.
