I'm not going to gush embarassingly about how much I love the RE series. I have a hard time finding anything wrong with any of them. Not to say there aren't problems, I just happily follow the continuity and characters no matter how off the rails the series goes. I'm not including the awful films though. I have to draw a line somewhere.

I played the first episode of RER2, umm...LOL. This is spoiler heavy so I will use magic black text...

The first episode is short, like 2 hours, but who gives a fuck, what IS there is great! Now this game does not do anything revolutionary or new to get excited about. RE seriously needs a new vision and direction for whatever 7 will be, and I honestly don't know what I want that to entail, but this game is not 7. It's more like a little bit Code Veronica in terms of setting and characters, you have to have a weaker partner to tag team with throughout the stage like RE5 or RE0; there is an A version and B version of the same episode, thats right you play as Claire and Moira for the first part, then after you finish you play through again with Barry with slight changes to objectives, so the devs have recycled the same stage within one hour, but for the story it works. ; )

There are still herbs, jewels and puzzle pieces and switches to pull to progress and there are lots of new zombies and mini-boss type zombies to fight throughout.

This time the game takes place on an island, like Code Veronica, a prison island in fact and you have to escape and figure out how to escape, why you are there and how to get home. Essentially, it follows the same scenario as Chris and Jill from first Revelations, except this time its Claire and Barry, but on an island instead of a ship.

The zombies here seem new, they shuffle around and charge at you which makes it hard to shoot them and they will grab at you, but overall the enemies here are better than first Revelations game.

My favorite part was after the prison, with Barry scenario, you have to run through a dark forest and I got serious flashbacks to Alan Wake. It is super atmospheric and the sound design is quite good as well. So far so good. I wasn't expecting much, but I really liked what I played so far and I would even say it was more fun than scary.

The graphics arent spectacular. The game still looks somewhat last gen, nothing like The Order 1886 or anything.

And thats about as much as I can say. It's interesting how people are freaking out about game length with The Order 1886 because honestly, this small sample was very tasty for being an appetizer and I actually like it more than the first Revelations game, go figure.  I also don't have time for another 40 hour RE game like RE6. I enjoyed it, but it could have been edited down a bit.

Wait, so the reason people don't like The Order 1886 is based on length? Well then I guess I'll rent it.

Length and replayability apparently.

I'll be trying another RE game sometime this year, no doubt.

I'm in the camp of waiting for The Order to drop in price a bit before jumping into the game. I have other stuff I'd like to finish before getting into that game
