Random Babblings

Hey Pixlbit. Sorry I've been kinda MIA. I figure everybody's got their hands full keeping up with BaD. I've also been trying to be more productive lately. By more productive I mean being a lazy bastard, watching a ton of Fist of the North Star and random movies on Netflix, and don't forget about playing some damn games.

Plus my dog was sick. I don't know what's wrong with her. Every once in a while she'll be shaking with drool hanging from her mouth. Then she vomits and starts flopping around. It's scary. I think I had mentioned her way back when on 1up. She's a long haired chihuahua and her name is Scarlett. Not the color. This Scarlett...

WTF am I going with this? Oh yeah. I wanted to talk about random crap basically as an excuse to interact with you marvelous people.

I finally got New Super Mario Bros. on DS in the mail. I plowed through it in a few sittings. It was pretty good. Definitely a solid, well made platformer. I'm still trying to find all the secrets and what not. Mostly I've been playing this...

Now I know some people here on Pixlbit don't care for GTA, and I can definitely understand that. I've always liked them. I got San Andreas and Vice City a while back on Steam. I had San Andreas on PS2 at one point, but got rid of it. There were several reasons for this. Mostly it's because gang members often start shooting you for no reason. You'll be minding your own business. If you shoot back, the cops come. It got old fast.

I'm glad I gave it another chance. I've been playing for 13 hours and am only at 11% completion. This game is huge. As crazy as this might sound my favorite thing to do in GTA is the Taxi missions. Just cruising around the city with the radio blasted while making money. It helps out in learning the layout of the city. There's some pretty good stuff on the soundtrack too. For instance...

I finally caved and got a few games off the 3DS Virtual Console.

Link's Awakening DX was free thanks to Club Nintendo. And a heads up by Mothman. (Thanks Pete!) This is such an underrated Zelda game. A lot of the handheld Zelda games are underrated in my opinion.  What other Zelda game lets you fight Goombas? I don't want to say too much here though since I might decide to review this game someday.

Mighty Final Fight (NES). I've been wanting this game for forever. It's nothing spectacular. I guess this game is rare or had a small print run. It came out pretty late in the NES lifecycle. The actual cartridge fetches ridiculous prices on Ebay. It's a fun little beat em up with a silly chibi art style. Characters can also level up and unlock new moves. It's funny how this game had all of the characters from the original Fight Fight when the "superior" SNES version clearly didn't.

Speaking of rare and super expensive games, I also got Shantae (GBC) off the 3DS VC. Here's another game I've been wanting to play for forever. I have Risky's Revenge on Steam, but haven't touched it yet. I hope they bring Pirates Curse to Steam as well since I'd much rather play those games on my PC over the 3DS. My PC is hooked up to my TV in case your wondering why.

I'm planning on buying something physical for my 3DS next month. Maybe Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call. The demo was fun. At first I was thinking the gameplay was rather simplistic, but man, it's addicting. Plus has a TON of great Final Fantasy music.

In other news I also got this.

This is the second volume of the TMNT Ultimate Collection. These are the original comics by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The tone is much darker than the cartoon, and they hold up WAY better than that corny crap. Only thing is that they are printed in their original black and white format. These books are huge hardcover tomes and also kind of expensive. I've been wanting to dabble more into TMNT though.

Anyway, that's probably enough babbling for now. Thanks for reading.

i used to read the old TMNT comics, they were great.  It's funny how crappy and cheesy the movies and tv shows have become in comparison.

I hope your dog feels better man.  My dog is getting old too. Frown

Which is kind of funny, since the creators came up with the idea because it was so cheesy and used it to parody darker 80s comics like Daredevil.

I might buy one of those Shantae games on Steam, but I have so many 2D side scrollers on there already, I'm not sure it's worth it until I play those.

I think Minish Cap and the DS games are the only handheld Zeldas I ever played. I'd like to play Oracles, Seasons, and Awakening DX.

San Andreas is the only GTA I have on Steam I have yet to play along with IV. I'll probably get V for PS4 at some point.

I wouldn't know, but that does make sense. I don't think I've ever read any Daredevil.

I'm the same way Joe. I have a ton of 2D platformers already. Yet I keep on buying more lol. It seems like that's all I want to play in my old age. I've heard a lot of praise for the Shantae games though. So I hope Pirate's Curse comes to Steam.

I have Minish Cap, but never beat it. I got stuck somewhere and gave up. I plan on going back to it someday. Link's Awakening is one of my favorite Zelda games. It's been forever since I played it.

There is A Shantae game on Steam, I forget which.

And Minish Cap has the hardest final boss I've ever faced in a Zelda, but to me that made it satisfying.

It's Risky's Revenge that's on Steam. I haven't played it yet though because I know it's gonna be good. If that makes any sense lol.

I don't really worry about difficulty in games. I've heard that the Oracle Zelda games are kind of hard too, but I'm still planning on getting those eventually.

Yeah. I'm planning on buying all the volumes of the Ultimate Collection eventually. It might take a while though since they are expensive. I really like what I've read of the comics. It was torture watching the cartoon again lol. I actually don't mind the first TMNT movie.

Thanks Snee! She's only a few years old so I hope it's nothing too serious.

You're always welcome Aaron. I see deals going on and I post them here so that the whole community can benefit.

Get your doggie to a vet.

Yeah. I will. Thanks for the heads up about Link's Awakening, Pete!

Aaron, I'll be back to read the bulk of your post, but get Scarlett to the vet and have them test for epilepsy. My uncle had a dog with epilepsy, and those were her symptoms, too. If that's what it is, it is very treatable with a pill or two a day.

That's what I was thinking it was. At first I thought maybe she ate something bad, but I watch her pretty closely, and it keeps on happenening every once in a while. It's scary. It's great to know that it's treatable. Thanks Tami!

Molly Dog went on to live a very long, healthy, active life after her diagnosis. Phenobarbitol is what they used to give them, don't know if there's something newer on the market now. I can ask my vet tech friend for you, though.

That's awesome! Scarlett isn't that old, but I worry about her. My mom said she'd bring her to the vet real soon. So hopefully it will all work out. You get attached to these animals. They are like part of the family.

I talked to my friend the vet tech, and she says phenobarbital is still the most common treatment, but recommended getting Scarlett seen ASAP.

Ok then.

I'll try to see if we can take her to the vet this weekend. Thanks for your help and concern. I appreciate it. Smile

Link's Awakening is my all-time favorite Zelda game.

I love the Shantae games, too.

Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda game. Link's Awakening is pretty high up the list though. It's been way too long since I played it.

I'm definitely looking forward to the Shantae games.

Due to slight panic over San Andreas being played by children, my parents prohibited me to play it on my Xbox years. However, I did played it a few times and I really enjoyed it. I'm kinda looking forward in playing my Steam copy, although last year they had an update where they put compatibility with the 360 pad, but apparently downgraded the resolution and had to take out a few songs due to copyright. I'll try to ignore that.

Man, I wish Nintendo just brings the Eshop to Colombia already as I want to play the original Shantae so badly. I'm also hoping to grab Risky's Revenge over Steam on a good sale.

I'm interested in collecting and reading the TMNT comics. I grew up as a fan of the 2003 series.

I had read an article about them removing a few songs from the Steam version. I'm playing it on 1080P resolution and it looks fine. Although I really could care less about graphics. The 360 controller does indeed work with it. It took me awhile to get used to the button layout, but that can be changed easily enough.

I do too Alex. A physical cart of Shantae is extremely expensive. I guess you could always emul... er, I mean... find some other way to play it. Innocent

The TMNT comics are great. I've never seen the 2003 series though so don't know how they compare to that.

I still want to play Vice City some more.

Vice City is still my favorite. I've put way too many hours into that game.

I still don't know what game I'll get free from the Nintendo club.  I want to add more points to it so I can get 2 games.  Damn shame newly released Nintendo games don't have codes with them anymore.  I bought Majora's Mask and can't get points off it.

San Andreas is a good game.  I still favor Vice City more.  I have GTA5, but I hadn't played it yet.

Aboboisdaman

Yeah. That sucks. I got Theatrythym yesterday and it had a code with it. I haven't put it in yet because I probably wouldn't have enough points even if I bought another game. Oh well.

Vice City is easily my favorite GTA for all kinds of reasons. There's a lot of busywork in San Andreas. Like having to constantly defend your hood or work out. I still like it a lot though.
