Where it's at on 9/19/18

I wouldn't say the older Spider-Man games really felt like Arkham at all. This new Spidey game definitely takes elements from both, but before Arkham there wasn't really a free flow fighting game, they seemed to take more elements from Devil May Cry or God of War. I still remember all those light/heavy attack combos while this square is just the close attack while triangle is the pull.

I agree the web swinging isn't what I wanted either, but I like it in its own way. It's more about fluidity than the arcade nature of 2. Think the zip/jump combo is the glue holding it together, that extra burst of speed from timing it right has an addicting rush and has the web swinging be more about keeping momentum than being precise, which was compelling in its own way.

I don't play my SNES Classic that much but I'm glad I have it. I like playing those games every now and then without having to dig up my Wii or Wii U. Still would rather have them on Switch.

I'd recommend newcomers get the volume 1 digitally first because between four games, it's very possible they'll get their fill without having to spend twice as much on games they may not end up caring about. Veterans know whether X5-X8 are worth the extra $20.

I like the game's story actually, wish I could enjoy the gameplay enough to finish it

Personally I liked Atreus in God of War. He had moments where he got a little obnoxious, but never more than a kid should be and Kratos would usually respond proportionately. The story kind of needs him to be that way too so Kratos can struggle being a parent. My issue was that the gameplay was boring and frustrating in all the wrong ways. The weight and impact behind everything was fantastic, but the combat felt even more repetitive than the past games while upgrades and armor didn't add enough.

Look into Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. It's a turn based strategy with scavenging and exploration between fights and a world like Fallout meets Beyond Good and Evil

Not just Octopath, but SMTV has been announed for it, basically guaranteeing that Atlus is going all in for the handheld. And once Atlus makes their mark on a piece of hardware, the other developers usually follow

From what I heard Shadow is supposed to be much more focused on tombs and puzzles than the past two Tomb Raider games. Here's hoping it pans out, I'm really excited for it.

3D platformers, both cartoony and cinematic (Tomb Raider, Uncharted, etc). More specifically, games in each genre that aren't afraid to challenge the player with their platforming. Something like Prince of Persia or Mario Galaxy 2 where there's all kinds of obstacles and timing needed more than Uncharted 2 or Mario Odyssey where there's very little challenge from the platforming.

I'd also like to see more rails shooters in the vein of Starfox or Sin and Punishment. Betting you're excited for that Resident Evil 2 remake considering your pick.
