Why The Last 2 PS3 Exclusives I Played are Complete Trash

Posted on 05/26/2013 at 06:48 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I absolutely recommend any of the first 5 GoW's.  They are amazing!

As for Heavy Rain, my gf beat it, got the poor ending, which is why I bothered to begin with.  She sat next to me, cheering me on, and then BAM, it froze.  I do want to go back and start again, because the game is that good, but there's no gaurantee I won't run into the same problem.  It's the same reason why I can't just pick a previous chapter and start from there.  I have no idea what the game-breaking factor is.  There's obviously something not adding up in the algorithm, causing it to crash.  I see it as a waste of time, which is a shame.

EDIT:  I finally got past the point I was stuck in, however I had to use the mid-air grapple/throw attack (tap R1) over and over again to do so.  Had to do that again at a second point, too.  This disappoints me, but maybe I can get through the game after all, we'll see.

Wasn't a cb, I corrected that.  It was a long time ago, but I think it was some type of radar scanner or something.  It was in a van that had a cb, but upon deeper reflection, I dont remember what it did specifically.  I was impressed, though by the entire van.  He explained to me how the Nes was rigged, to an antenna, but I don't remember.

I can only say what I've said numerous times:  I'm not interested in Microsoft or Sony's next gen system.  There are many reasons; I can't afford it, I don't game as much, not into the DRM aspect, but the main reason is I have a huge backlog for all 3 current systems, plus a Wii U, so I see no justification to make the leap.

EA and Console Bashing

Posted on 05/18/2013 at 04:21 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Holy Bat, Crapman!  I'm glad I read about this here first, thanks for posting, Nicole.

Where do I begin?  For starters, I boycotted EA a while ago, around the mid 00's, due to their buggy rehashes of Madden.  I'd finally had enough and, other than for gifts for other people, have not purchased a single EA game since only purchased NFL Blitz on PSN Store, an IP which originated with Midway and was purchased during bankruptcy.  This isn't to say they don't make some good games.  They do.  It's their practice of rehashing I disagree with.

The immense flame wars flaring up at other mega-sites proves to me that both EA and Nintendo are a focal point of discussion.  A couple sites have +5000 comments already.  I can't remember the last time I saw a debate get so heated.  Obviously, I like Nintendo, but I know better than to step in that pile of fiery dung.

The more I think about this upcoming generation, the more I realize it will be a long haul instead of instant gratification.  Nintendo's always been wise to minimize their loss-leader margins.  Didn't the Wii, couple with DS, catapult Nintendo to become Japan's richest company at one time, due to the fact that Wii was profitable from day 1?  How did EA's 3DO fair?  Apple's and oranges, perhaps, but it didn't do too well.

Next, I refuse to watch the video (did read the twat's tweets), but I can't believe a professional in the industry would produce something so brazen and crude.  What happens if Wii U turns around and sells well?  This day will be remembered if/when EA comes whimpering back.  I'm half tempted to email an EA rep a piece of my mind.

Lastly, I'll say that since the recent major update to Wii U's OS, it's been operating rather smoothly.  It hasn't frozen on me once, and every app finally works.  The transition between games and apps is indeed much faster than before.  Granted, I don't game on it much, but I'm not gaming much in general anyway, for personal reasons.  I am using it more, though, for surfing the web, Netflix, YouTube, etc.  As I was saying about the long haul that this next generation will be, I think Nintendo is perhaps actually very forward thinking, more than I give credit for in recent blogs.  Perhaps they are thinking so far ahead that the plan is not evident at this time.  Who knows, we can only wait and see.  What I do know, though, is that the 3DS landed with a thud upon launch, and look where it is today.

you could be right. i personally have no interest in those systems, at least right out the gate. there are so many great games i missed this gen that will keep me busy, and my wallet slightly fatter, thanks to used market.

i think you're right about the 70m+ sold argument. unless something incredible comes along, the touch device craze has sucked a lot of interest out of the console market. As for Wii U, it might actually end up doing well long term. We saw how long this recent generation lasted, who's to say the next won't be longer? I imagine the U will have a price drop before we even sniff a PS4 or 720, making it more competitive. As for Vita: oh well. I'm sorry, I never believed in Sony as a gaming company. Yes, they had some hits, but my experience, personally, hasn't been great. My most recent gripe is how Heavy Rain completely bugged out on me a few chapters from the end, which i will blog about soon. I owned a psp, wasn't impressed. To be honest, the only IP from Sony that ever wowed me is God of War, although the Uncharted series looks awesome, just haven't played it. Everything else I like on Sony are 3rd party, mostly on PSX and PS2. So failure of Vita doesn't disappoint on a personal level, but, yeah, it's a troubling measurement of the state of gaming as we've grown familiar with. Sorry for text wall, was input on Wii U.

Quickie: Entering Facebook Through The Back Door On A Wii U

I was thinking about it: I think Nintendo will downplay facebook on their devices in an effort to promote MiiVerse, which is very similar.  I have a feeling a Facebook app won't appear on Wii U, or crossover posts like with PS3 trophies.
