With out a shadow of a doubt mine would be Fatal Frame II that game scared the crap out of me, but was a crazy Horror game and the ghost were just plain freaky, this game is one I need to ad to my collection, I still need to beat it, my number 2 would be Alan Wake there was some parts in that game that was just flat out a trip, but nothing can touch Fatal Fram 2.

Eternal Darkness, but when I posted about it, pretty much everyone mentioned Fatal Frame, so I think you're in good company here. lol

I think for overall atmosphere, Alan Wake is mine, though I have not finished it yet.   I also have been playing the original Fatal Frame for xbox and it is really good.  I really really wish they would have released Fatal Frame II on the wii.    Regardless, I need to go back and find a copy.  What consoles was it released on?

I just started Luigi's Mansion and although it is not overly scary, I still had a disturbing dream after playing it of being shoved into a giant spider's web.

I don't really play scary games, but when I was a kid and first saw SiniStar in an arcade, that voice scared the crap out of me.

"BEWARE, I LIVE!"

I'd like to try one of the Fatal Frame games, since I think ghosts are cool.  Technically I have played a Fatal Frame game, but I don't know if it counts.  Spirit Camera on the 3DS is actually a Fatal Frame game in Japan.

I think I remember you doing this blog on 1UP, I really liked this one and the game you chose. Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly is definitely the scariest game I've ever played. I love to play spooky games but Fatal Frame 2 is on its own level for me. The ghosts really terrify me and I always feel vulnerable and with very little defenses.

Those invincible ghosts in Silent Hill 4 that float around with their heads down really really scared me. They were a pain in the ass and it wasn't fun fighting them, I hate invincible enemies, but it really worked because they terrified me.

Those invincible enemies sucked. I didn't find them scary just irritating. and that invincible asshole with the gun who chased you through most of the second half caused me to quit in disgust.

You're right. I made them sound scarier than they probably were, they were probably more frustrating than anything. I guess what I should have said is that I was initially really terrified of them when I first came across them and didn't know how much they'd screw the game up. Once I had some time in and I realized what kind of affect those ghosts had on the levels I wasn't very happy.

There's sections of the game that are absolutely awful to play because of those ghosts. I'll always remember that subway section where you have to run around the subway train cars, the landing station, walkways, and everything and the ghosts are all over the place. They chase you the whole way through and it makes me panic, rush, I miss important items and secrets, and it ruins the whole pacing and experience of that level. The concept of the ghosts is really scary still, with how they float, look down, and groan like they do. But the thing that ruins them and ruins some of those levels is the fact they are invincible. If the ghosts were killable I bet things would've felt quite different.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I really wanted to love Silent Hill 4 and I couldn't because of that shit,

I will never forget playing the first Silent Hill game. Lights out, sound up and late at night. Freaked me the hell out! Those Fatal Frame games top that in a big way. They are not only scary, but they make you quite jumpy while playing them. I only have the first one at present. But I will be prepared for what the second will bring.

I don't really do scary games, even though I have a couple.

Fatal Frame 2 is a good choice for "scariest game". Silent Hill was the first game that scared me beyond a few "jump scares". It leaves its' mark on me to this very day.

I just couldn't do fatal frame. I played the first one and spent most of my time flailing around with the camera snapping pictures of nothing as I attempted to get the ghost in the frame. I do not respond well to panic situations. I still have the first one. I bought Crimson Butterfly and traded it towards my PS3.

It was scary story wise though but I'd rather have my Eternal Darkness and Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3.

I had close to the same experience with Fatal Frame.  Pre-ordered it at the time, took some colossal pics when I could but most of the time the scare part messed me up and caused me to miss my shots.  I can still say it was fun though.  This is definitely a game that accomplished a lot without any combat.

This game had the fear factor, when you walked in that creepy old run down shack I was scared before the scary part happened lol now thats when you know your pkaying a scary game lol.

Fatal frame also worked because of those "random harmless ghosts" who simply moved out of the corner of your eye. lol. Quite a few of those instances made me jump.

Actually I think the first scared moment for me was the first resident evil when the dobermans jumped through the window i honestly dropped my controller in panic lol of course dumb me was playing alone in the dark so that didnt help lol.

I own more than a few scary games, but I hadn't played most of them.  I guess the game that scared me the most so far is Resident Evil (PS).

The original Fatal Frame was far creepier than the second, IMO. Creepier still as how we played it in the dark, then an actual thunderstorm rolled in!
