Xbox One? No Thanks

Yesterday was the big reveal of the new Xbox. I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation, super excited, watching for all the rumors to be answered. Instead I get to view this square cable slapped box filled with disappointment.

Let's begin with the name...Xbox One. I think it's a stupid name I just doesn't sit with me. I would have been better off with just Xbox or some other amazing name in the rumor mill.

Next always needing the kinect to use the new Xbox. Granted this is only reportedly what is out there but using all these voice commands to control the box? I don't know if that is my cup of tea, I like a power button to turn on and off my Xbox. There is also the question of if I yell at my tv while playing something and it'll just do a random search and pop it up on my TV. Also in normal conversation when I have the box off can it turn on if I said something near it that makes it turn on? There's all these questions about it running in my head and none were answered at all.

Another thing that peeved me was how long they spent explaining the tv feature. I don't care about it Microsoft! Where are my games?! I just found it pointless. This is a gaming console, not a cable box. I am actually tired of Microsoft trying to shove all of this garbage into it. I have a cable box to watch TV off my TV I do not need an Xbox to watch TV off of. Twenty minute lecture of pure garbage that could have been better spent.

Finally the rumors, they didn't address many or any of them till afterwards in interviews with companies. I find the cloud to be annoying and giving the option for developers to go online only. So basically when they say you don't have to connected to play but you might have to if the developer chooses to have you do so. So Microsoft...that means I may need constant internet connection. I would prefer one or the other and not a maybe.  Next is the used games situation. They at first say you'll have to pay a fee and then later backed up saying they have a plan for them. Yeah this plan I cannot wait to hear.  Installing games...I may as well go digital then. Why spend my money on a game disc when it has to be installed anyways? Yet at the same time I am quite disappointed with this, my HDD could fill up really fast. Then what do I do? Delete games off of it? If I do that am I able to put in my disc and be okay with installing it again at a later time? I know with digital I won't have an issue since I bought it digitally. But will the Xbox think it's used or is there something that will let it know I am the original owner? Again more questions.

There are also the unanswered questions about Gold, Avatars, Game price, MS Points, are we able to swap out HDD, for the tv lovers is it just comcast?

Microsoft I feel failed yesterday and spent too much time on things that gamers do not care about. UNless you are that gamer that does then this was right up your ally. Hopefully they bring it at E3 otherwise they will not see me as a future buyer.

i had low expectations going in and I was still disappointed.  I quit watching it halfway through and had lunch.  It's just sad.

I was really hoping to see them go full in with games and specs and all this great stuff geared towards gamers. Not we have tb you can watch!

I understand the name.. But that should have been the code name given to it during the production. To me, the best name I heard for it while the rumors were circulating was Xbox. It's plain, it's simple, and it reminded me of better times whenever a console would simply play games and DVDs.

I understand it too but I agree Xbox would have been a better name for it.

When it has enough good games on it that I want to play, then I might be more interested.  I love my 360 and PS3, but even I didn't get them right away.  Only when they had enough games I wanted.

Well i said some pretty bad things about this system yesterday and im upset i mean i want a gaming console not a cable box with gaming capabilities, with that said i did see some really good looking rpgs for the One gay name by the way but the Witcher 3 looks great so i will have to see what E3 does to help sell this thing but as of now im leaning more toward a ps4.

I read that it comes with a 500 GB hard drive and you can't swap it out. It has a usb port for an external hard drive so there's that at least.

Yeah I read about that too. I also read that anything 360 will not work on it either. I just find it kinda dumb. I don't want to buy an external for it.

I thought the announcement was focused on look what the X-Box can do, rather than being a gaming console. I get that it's trying to be an all in one entertainment box, but the meat and potatoes of it should be "here is what we offer in gaming" and then go into the other features of the console.

Exactly. I wanted more of this is what the gaming will be and mention the other aspects but put more into the gaming part. I mean most of the people watching were gamers most likely.

Well said. I think it is clear they will lose a lot of true gamers after the reveal.

Thank you! Even after the release they attempted to clear some things up and it still has me ehhh about the system. Hopefully, if they stay true to their word, the games turn me around at E3.

It would be neat to have a game guide up on a panel alongside the game you were playing. That's about the only thing usefull in all of this for me.

I've seen articles reviewing the new xbox reffering to it as "The One". The One? Seriously, like Neo from the Matrix or like God. The One? The One is all your entertainment needs; The One does all your TV; The One does all your social media? The One is evil!

Just think of it as your new system's call sign, or an experimental rocket: the X One!

no...

didn't think so. *goes back to play current gen consoles*
