I pre-ordered this game and began to stat playing/completing the game this week. I am enjoying it thus far, but of course there are some changes that are pretty neat but at the same time I feel took away from the game.

One of these changes is having the ability to select what to say, which I think is awesome and it's a way to help build up affinity with the other characters. But this has left the protagonist very few in his words. I don't know about you guys but I like the main lead to speak and not grunt all the time or just say "huh?!", "Okay", or "Yeah" that left me a little disappointed.

Another idea I am not super wowed with is the Lilium Orb replacement. You select an extractor to extract a certain spirit element type and get skills/artes that way. I honestly find it to be a little confusing. I want to see how much each extractor has for a person to learn from it. But it doesn't show everything. The completionist in me is dying haha.

Another interesting new item added is your 20 million gald debt. This I actually do not hate, I find it interesting how I cannot go further into the story till a pay a portion of the debt off. Now you dont have to pay your whole debt off but I am very much planning to (grindding will be my best friend near the end of the game). One way to help is jobs - the only gripe I have on the jobs is I wish I could hold more than 5. Especially in the beginning before ou get the map to fast travel everywhere it's a lot of running back and forth.

Who ever has played the first Xillia game will know who these characters are but what I found to be refreshing is they didn't give you many new characters to join up. So you get your old cast of characters back (Jude, Milla, Rowen, Alvin, Liea, Elize) and you even get to play with Giaus and Muzeit later. Plus you get to visit everywhere you were in Xillia 1 with the difference of Fractured Dimentions. Which are a new added item to the game for the main story. You also get to do side stories with each character (i know you can do them with the main cast, not sure about Giaus or Muziet). So when you can proceed in the main story yet those come in handy to earn some extra gald.

Over all I like the story though, the new features are nice but some a little disappointing at the same time. Has anyone else tried it out yet?

All I know is that bob mackey at Usgamer murdered this game in his review recently. Ah! The good old 1up days of controversy and flame wars. I haven't played the first game, so I can't criticize. I've been wanting to try out the first game though.

yep, Mackey indeed laid ToX2 to waste in his review.  He made at least one good point though, about stretching what should've been a 20 hour game into a 60+ hour grindfest.

Then again, that's a lot of JRPGs in general.  I'm still gonna check it out once the price drops.

Yes that's pretty much what it is. I certainly liked the first one a lot better than this one. I just goit Giaus in my group now so I am heading for chapter 9. But right now I am trying reallly hard to do all the side jobs, character stories, and then grind a bit to make more money/create new weapons& armor and pay off my debt. Seriously it's going to be a lot of grinding trying to get this 20 million debt paid off. I have only scratched at it lol and brought it down to 19,200,000.

Twenty Million Gald debt just to start with?

Oh brother..
I blame the Credit Card companies...

Haha yeah you start and then stuff happens and you're forced into this debt. Which I like the concept of you can't move on until you pay a certain amount but it gets harder as it goes up. You first start at having to pay 20,000 -> 50,000 -> 70,000 -> 100,000 which is where I am at now. So I am assuming thats going to just to 120,000 very soon.

I haven't even played the first one yet!

If Tales of Zestria makes it to the US, I'll have to get it because Go Shiina did the soundtrack and he's my favorite video game music composer.

Go ahead and pick out a Xillia character you think I'd like.

I believe Zestria is and I cannot wait for that one.

I liked the first Xillia a lot better, and I have a feeling you might like Rowen. He has some whitty banter for an old guy but he's pretty awesome. You might also like Leia. I like then all, there is not one character I dislike. Excepter for Ludgar in 2 for not speaking...but otherwise he's pretty awesome. You get to have 3 sets of weapons for him, which is interesting just makes chaning them in battle a hastle sometimes.

I preordered it, but I just picked up my copy yesterday morning.  I want to play the 1st game before I start the 2nd.

You will like the first game a lot better then the second game I believe. 2 feels like a long game but with everything they added into it, it makes for a much longer game.

I need to stop feeling bad about not finishing up everything in Graces F and start on Xillia.

I still have to finish Graces F! It's probably going to be my next one I complete.

And with news of having to pay a debt in the game pretty much kills my interest in playing this game.

I already have to pay off debt in real life. I don't need to have that real life equivant in my game =( I didn't like that pay to save feature in the original Lunar II on the Sega CD. Horrid. Idea.

They made it easy to get the money for it, you just go kill elite monsters (which some are easier than I thought they would be) and you do things on the job board to give decent money. The max I am up to paying now is 200,000 and I still have a lot left over after each payment. So it's not bad, but when you see you barly dent it near the end of the games it's just this ugh feeling lol

So is Tales of Xillia 2 a true sequel to the first and do you recommend it although I will get it since I have every Tales game on the ps3 and 360 and I want to get the ones on the ps2 as well but I guess what im really curious about is if its a sequel or its own game and should I wait till the price drops or go ahead and get it =-) but I do love the Tales series.

It is a true sequel, it does continue with how the previous characters are/what they are doing now when you go through their side stories. And the main story picks up where you as a Spirius Agent need to take down these fractured dementions that are ruining the world because the Great Spirit Origin cannot purify all the souls anymore, and get this girl to the land of Cannan. What is also cool is from the first game you heard the name Kresnik a lot. The main character is a decendent of the great sage Kresnik. They also added a Great Spirit names Chronos who is a pain in the butt. In my opinion true sequel. I would wait for a price drop honestly. I bought it under the assumptions was going to be just as great as Xillia. It's a good game but not worth it for $60. I spend more time on the side items then I do with the main story.

Thanks I will take your advice and get it when the price drops and I thought I would recommend to you Paradox of Fate by NIS basicly you win the lottery and become God which is actually a very good Story the battle system is turn based but done in a way it reallly doesnt feel like it but the story is really good so if you never heard of it it really is different and a refreshing twist for the genere and I think Chris Yargze did a article on it as well but anyway im still playing through the Tales of Symphonia which I find very good and havent really started Tales of Xillia but I want 2 in my collection so thank you for the info. Wink

I loved Vesperia but the complexities of the ever expanding combat system threw me off at some point. I'll still beat that beautiful beast someday!

Wish I could talk to you about Xillia Ash, but sadly I have not been able to play either one. Carly told me a lot about her time with Xillia though. Smile
