Fortune Island and Retro Arcade Cabinets

The game I really wanted the SNK collection for is Vanguard, which was a pre-NES favorite on the 2600 and 8-bit Ataris. I also play Athena, but that game is a Soulsbourne level of punishing even at easy difficulty. Ikari Warriors and P.O.W. are the other ones I play on that collection. It has both the arcade and NES versions where available.

I got Spyro for my friend's kids. I've mostly been playing Tales of Vesperia on my Switch. I no longer have a 360 so this is the only way I can play it now.

I don't miss the stockpiling for snowstorms, I say as I enjoy the 70 degree weather in Phoenix right now. When I did live in snowy areas I wasn't all that bad about it either. Amy and I kept pretty level heads. When I was a kid, my mom would buy MREs from the military commissary for snow and tornadoes. They keep pretty much forever.

I've seen homemade arcade cabinets that are supposed to sit on bartops. They're sold on sites like Etsy. I'm tempted to get a cabinet with Donkey Kong graphics on it (it includes thousands of games, not just DK).

At this point, though, my Switch is my childhood dream arcade, with classics from Nintendo, Atari, Namco, Sega, Capcom, and SNK on it.

I remember the first TJ&E being shown at Genesis kiosks at Walmart when I was a kid. It was a weird game. I'd played dungeon crawlers before (specifically, a game called Gemstone Warriors on Atari XE), but didn't make the connection to this one.

One Genesis game I wish they'd revive is this little platforming/RPG gem called Alisia Dragoon.

So your GOTY isn't Fallout 76? What's next, Kirby: Star Allies?

So far, the Switch is the only console that got Civ 6. I guess it's a better fit for the Switch and its audience than the Xbone and PS4.

Smash has great visuals and the game remains pretty consistent on speed.

FFXII was great. I'll probably triple dip on it when it hits Switch next year.

Chillin.

My main in Smash Ultimate is Cloud.

What's your gamer tag? Maybe we can do Smash online.

New Year Reviews

Big rigs sure don't seem to do well in video games. The Angry Video Gane Nerd reviewed an incredibly bad PC game called Big Rigs. That game was too unfinished at release to even be a beta.

Top 5 of 2018 Past and Present

I really enjoyed 2018 in gaming. A lot of my favorite franchises got sequels, and my GOTY is a toss-up between Valkyria Chronicles 4 and Dragon Quest XI. My GOTY for past games is Donkey Kong on Switch, the first time my favorite arcade game of all time got a home release in its original glory.

FFXII is an amazing game. I bought it new on PS2 and took a day off of work for it when it came out, I bought it again on PS4. And what the heck, I'll probably triple dip on it when it comes out on the Switch (I plan to get all the Final Fantasy titles on Switch anyway.)

I also got Okami HD on Switch. I had the original on PS2 the year it came out (which was the same year FFXII and Twilight Princess came out, 2006 was a great year).

Celeste was a surprise hit. I was also one of many, many guys on forums noting that I got Celeste because my SO is named Celeste, LOL.
