Your third paragraph would sound really cheesy if it was about any other game, but Super Mario Galaxy was such an undiluted distillation of joy. So few games achieve that. It was my favorite game of that generation.

I never liked Spider-Man games till they moved into 3D with that PS1 game. Spidey just doesn't work in 2D, in my opinion.
