Fire and Shock

With my new system that simplifies how I decide what weapons to equip, I had some brain space available to figure out strategies that combine the effects of all the different item types my character has in Borderlands.

Krom engulfed in flames

I started using weapons with fire elemental effects. It's what I picked up, so I tried it out. It works excellent against unarmored humans like Krom. I died at the feet of Krom after this moment shown above, however. No problem. In the few moments I got to catch a Second Wind by getting a kill while I was down, I whipped out my rocket launcher and let Krom have it. A big firey boom later I was back on my feet and victorious. I save my rockets for just such moments. Usually it saves me.

Shock and awe

Then I picked up some new weapons that my inventory list suggested were better, so I switched. They happened to have the shock effect. Then I found a soldier mod item that boosted shock damage, so I equipped that. I also happened to have shock effect grenades. Put all these together, and I was creating explosions of shock damage so big that, a lot of the time, I was shooting blind through a storm of lighting. This is kind of the end goal for me in Borderlands, to get the right combination of items to create really wild effects on screen and, of course, kill the baddies fast.

Fun, fun, fun 'til my daddy takes my Xbox away. That's not going to happen. It's good to be an adult.

I've always been a fan of ice weapons in games. Burning people is fun, but freezing them to death seems more cruel. Ha ha.

I was freezing enemies in some game recently and then breaking them with a melee punch. That never gets old. I forget which game it was though.

One of the later Borderlands, maybe 2 or Pre-Sequel, has ice element weapons. I was making it snow on the field with a combination of grenades and rockets that had that element attached to them. I want to do something similar with B1. They only got electric, corrosive, fire, and explosive elements though.

Despite never being terribly impressed with the Borderlands games, I have somehow played all of them.

I usually get frustrated with the game at some point because I can never determine what weapon is better than another. It's great to have so many of them, but it should be clear what is going to work better. There's something inherently zany about every part of the game that makes serious strategy a waste of time. It's better to just wing it, forget the stats, and see what works. That kind of annoys me.

I guess it's kind of like an FPS party game...

I was always a fan of the weapons that were toxic to the enemy but I always like to try different weapons to see what they can do.

Yea, I would use the element effects on enemies and listen to what they said. The fire one gets them to say stuff like "my face, my face". Kind of morbid but in the context of the game it's funny.
