PixlTalk Episode 73: Blast From the Past

The new-old PixlTalk crew takes to the sound waves once again.

The original (well, sort of) crew of PixlTalk is back this week as they reclaim the podcast that has been under the loving care of our previous two crews for the past few months. Coming back into the show we wanted to do something new and fresh that would shake up the original format and keep things moving at a steady rate.

Max Payne 3 Review

Remember when the shoot-dodge was your best bet for success?

Max Payne 2 was a game that did two things amazingly well: it provided a dark, deep, and gritty story that was accentuated by its film noir approach, and it offered unique third person shooting that was unlike anything else thanks to the bullet time system. Max Payne 3 brings both back, but neither is executed to the degree of excellence seen in the past iteration of the series.

JAM Live Music Arcade Review

An awkward interface and limited functionality hinder this otherwise creative music game.

Playing Jam Live Music Arcade distinctly reminded me of my time with the DS title, KORG-DS 10 Plus. While the two aren’t exactly the same, Jam Live Music Arcade provides the ability to play with song arrangements using a variety of samples, encouraging players to creatively jam out. However, Jam Live Music Arcade makes the mistake of cramming in an uninspired arcade mode that needlessly mimics the popular rhythm games of this generation, like Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

Okami HD Coming to PSN This Fall

Capcom's critically acclaimed adventure is about to get a bit more beautiful.

The Zelda-esque adventure offered a unique take on an ancient Japanese tale, beautiful graphics, original gameplay, and a cast of memorable characters. Before long, players were able to intuitively paint with the celestial brush on Nintendo's Wii. Though a great rendition of the now-classic title, today, Capcom has announced what should be the best version of the game yet.

The show is over and so the PixlBit staff discusses the games that gave them the most thrills this year.

This year was a bit thinner than what we were expecting, especially with Nintendo supposedly pulling back the curtain on the Wii U.  But while we were left a bit underwhelmed and with more questions than answers there were still plenty of games on display to get us excited for something.

Nintendo Confirms Fire Emblem: Awakening for America

Reggie accidentally spills the beans after the 3DS presentation.

After last night's 3DS presentation, Fire Emblem: Awakening was accidentally confirmed by Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime. While there's been no confirmation that it happened in this manner, the rumor states that during a conversation with Kotaku's Stephen Totilo, Reggie mistakenly confirmed the game for America not realizing it hadn't appeared in the E3 press kit. Regardless of how the news came to fruition, Nintendo of America officially confirmed the title via Twitter shortly thereafter.

PixlTalk E3 2012 Episode Three

Nintendo disappoints again and the crew does not take it well.

At this point, we've nearly reached the end of our E3 journey. Without being on the show floor to get our hands on the games, we've all just been spectating and deriving as much information as we can from those who are experiencing the show first hand. With another disappointing showing from Nintendo and a general lack of new items at the show, the conference is wearing on this crew's optimism.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate Preview

Traverse the Belmont bloodline and battle Dracula himself.

2D Castlevania games have been on a short hiatus since the release of Order of Ecclesia on the Nintendo DS in 2008. Four years later and we’re finally seeing a new title, this one for the Nintendo 3DS. Development has shifted hands to Mercury Stream, the same team behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Fittingly, the brand new title, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate is set 25 years after the events of the original game, telling the tale of Gabriel’s descendants.
