Hola! Amiibos! (Wave 3)

I was finally able to get almost all the Wave 3 Amiibo figures, so I posted a blog with pictures of them.  Only problem was I couldn’t get Meta Knight or Lucario.  And I really wanted Meta Knight, too.  If anyone knows where or how I could get them, please let me know.  Thanks.

Maya the Bee: Flying Challenge (iPad)

Anyone remember Nick Jr. in the late 80’s and early 90’s?  They should’ve just called it Toonami Jr. because they showed a lot of kiddy anime back then!  Nick Jr. was a different beast in those days.  They showed things like The Noozles, Adventures of the Little Koala, and the Lil’ Bits (that last cartoon was done by Tatsunoko, wonder why they weren’t in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom).  Anyway, another cartoon they showed was Maya the Bee, an anime about a young girl bee who was originally in a German children’s storybook from the early 1900’s!  Maya the Bee is very popular in Europe, and now there is a new computer animated Maya the Bee cartoon and movie (not sure if the cartoon is in the US, but the movie will be on video later).  Anyway, the game is just your typical 3-D continuous runner (flyer), but I just thought it was interesting that they made a game from something in my childhood.

Lucky Charms St. Paddy’s Day Edition (Cereal)

Yeah I reviewed a cereal. What’re you gonna do about it?  Huh?  Anyway, holiday themed cereals are nothing new, but I’ve never seen one for St. Patrick’s Day!  I posted this a day before the holiday so it was timely then.  It’s just regular Lucky Charms with only the clover and pot of gold marshmallows in it.  Not sure why they didn’t put the rainbows in it, too, since they kind of go with pots of gold. 

So how does the cereal taste?  Well I wouldn’t know.  I don’t like Lucky Charms.  Or any cereal with marshmallows for that matter.  I gave the box of the cereal to a co-worker.  I’ve never liked marshmallows.  When I was a kid, they made a Pac-Man cereal and it killed me because it had marshmallows in it (Pac-Man and the four ghosts).  I wanted to eat it so bad because I like Pac-Man, but I knew I wouldn’t like the cereal because of the marshmallows.  When I was a kid, my mom would watch a lot of the neighborhood kids during the day while their parents worked (so even though I was an only child, it didn’t feel that way a lot of times).  Anyway, if she ever bought a marshmallow cereal for us to eat for breakfast, I’d just take out all the marshmallows from my bowl and put them in my friend’s bowl.  I’m sure my mom appreciated that.

A long time ago I took one of those internet quizzes that would tell you what your personality is by what kind of Lucky Charms marshmallow was your favorite.  I won’t tell you what KIND of personality test it was, but one of the choices was the oat bits so I picked that since I don’t like any of the marshmallows.  Well, the results said that I was the most boring type of person on the planet and that I would die alone as a stuffy librarian or something.  YEAH THANKS INTERNET.  Oh well, at least it was just a dumb quiz.

Iron & Steel Pack (360)

Zen Studios’ latest edition to their pinball lineup includes a Western themed table and one based on their CastleStorm game that I reviewed a while back.  CastleStorm mixed gameplay types such as Angry Birds and even one-on-one fighters in a strategy medieval game setting.  But the pinball table it’s based on is much better than the game itself!

Magic Cat Story (iPad)

This is a free-to-play puzzle game, but it’s more like Puyo Puyo than Candy Crush.  I would’ve liked it much better if it didn’t get impossibly hard after stage 30 (which usually happens in these kinds of games).  Only reason why I reviewed it is because the PR company sent me this weird magic wand thing that I think is supposed to be a stylus, but it looks more like just a stick to me.  The wooden box it was in was much nicer than what was inside it.  What a weird way to promote a freebie.

Reader Review: Brandish: The Dark Reverent (PSP)

Got a couple of reader reviews from my friends, too.  The first is actually a downloadable PSP game that XSEED just published! It’s a remake of an old Falcom dungeon crawler.  Only other time it was in the US was on the SNES.  My friend likes these kinds of games, so I had him review it.  Falcom is pretty awesome.  They make the Ys series.

Reader Review: Stardust Vanguards (PC)

Another friend of mine reviewed this multiplayer action game on PC, but it was a bit lacking because it had no single player or online support.  Kind of strange for a PC game to not have that nowadays.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late (PS3)

Since I had already talked about this game in my last blog, I’ll just post it last here and not go into it too much.  This anime-inspired fighter is much more accessible to novices than some of their other games like BlazBlue and Guilty Gear, but the characters aren’t as interesting.
