Introducing CaryCon 2015!

Hey folks, I’ve got some good news and some bad news.  First the bad news.  My request for getting a press pass into E3 this year got rejected.  That’s the third year in a row.  I probably won’t even try next year.  Three strikes and you’re out.  But I’m not going to complain about it.  Well, I might complain about it a little later on, but not right now.  You know, when something goes on that I don’t like, I try not to complain about it too much, but instead I try and DO something about it.  You know, like instead of griping about game award shows, I just make my own in a blog.  Which brings me to my good news.  I’ve decided to have my OWN convention.  It’ll be called CaryCon, and it’ll be held at The Colony Convention Center at the end of next month during the weekend of April 31st.  Read on for full details and how YOU can get in for free!

There is going to be a lot going on at CaryCon 2015.  Here is a rundown on some of the things you’ll find:

Show Floor

Like E3 and PAX, CaryCon will have a show floor where game companies will show off their new titles.  But for this convention, it’ll be about only games that I like!  So expect Nintendo will have a pretty big booth.  Some other companies may be there, but I can’t say who yet.  Maybe Namco or Capcom or Square, depending on if they have anything coming out that I like.

Panels

There will also be guest speakers featured in the convention center’s auditorium.  I haven’t ironed out the full schedule yet, but I am flying Go Shiina, Yuzo Koshiro, and members of Taito’s Zuntata band out to talk about video game music.  Toru Iwatani will talk about why Pac-Man is so cool, and Shigeru Miyamoto will make a public apology for consuming our lives with his games.

Arcade

Groups of arcade cabinet collectors will also show up at the convention to set up an awesome recreated 80’s arcade.  Highlights include every Pac-Man arcade game ever made, re-created Namco Museum rooms, and many other classic favorites and surprises.

Viewing Rooms

You know how some anime conventions have big rooms with a TV or movie screen set up so you can watch anime?  Well we’ll be doing the same thing, but it’ll be shows that I like.  In the mornings, we’ll be watching some of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons, and there will even be a station over on the side of the room where you can pour yourself a bowl of cereal!  In the afternoons we’ll show some of my favorite movies, like Ghostbusters, Gremlins, and The Fifth Element.  And at night we’ll have late night Mystery Science Theater 3000 viewings! And instead of cereal, we’ll be serving popcorn at those times.

Gym

Exercise is important, too, so when you’re tired of being lazy sitting on your butt watching movies and playing video games, you can go to the gym at the convention center and work out and try Wii Fit at stations with real life Wii Fit trainers!

Cosplay

Every convention has cosplayers, and they are welcome here, too.  But there is one rule; you have to dress up as a character I like!  I get so sick of going to PAX and having no idea who most of the characters are.

Tickets

Tickets will be on sale soon, and I’ll tell you more about that when times comes.  But I’ll tell you right now how you can get it for free.  The first two people to bring me a Meta Knight Amiibo and a Lucario Amiibo will get special VIP passes that get you first in line at panels and free cereal and popcorn at the movie viewings.

Conclusions

And that’s the big news for right now.  You probably won’t hear from me much for a while, as I’ll be very busy with the convention for now.  And then after that, I’m moving to Lake Guntersville in Alabama and getting married to a lady who runs a paranormal investigation service and is a part time circus strongwoman.

APRIL FOOLS!

Yeah I know that you’re not supposed to tell the April Fools’ joke in the same blog, but I just wanted to fool you, not lie to you.  Plus, I made my story so ridiculous that I’m sure I didn’t fool anyone anyway, and I do this every year anyway so I’m sure you all come to expect this.  So in the comments section, let me know if I fooled you or not, and tell me what you’d dress up as and do at “CaryCon” 2015.  And what kind of convention would you make if you had your own?  And give me ideas for future blogs as well, I’m running low.  That’s all for now, later!  --Cary

Nope, didn't fool me :)  I fired up the laptop this morning just to see what you'd have for us this year.

Aw, man.  Maybe next year I shouldn't post an April Fools blog, then that would really fool you!

Oh, don't do that! It's the only April Fool's prank I enjoy.

Really?  Well thank you.  I'm not sure this one was as good as years' past, but at least it was fun to think about.

You know it's getting bad when I get onto Pixlbit this morning, see a blog from you and say to myself "Oh look, there's Cary's April Fool's blog." It's a tradition, don't stop doing it.

Well I'm glad you enjoy it.  I hate it that I'm so predictable now.  I could at least fool one person at 1up every year.

I'd probably stay in that viewing room fattening up on cereal.

Nah you wouldn't get fat.  Remember I don't like too many of the sweetie cereals, just the healthy ones.  Or at least semi-healthy.

ha ha I would totally go to CaryCon!  I don't know about forcing Miyamoto to apologize for his work though!!!

Yeah he needs to apologize for making all those fun games.

He knew he had it coming.

Oh, you got me! I wanted to go to CaryCon too! Watch anime and play games? Awesome. But also too good to be true. Oh well.

Cary Woodham

Well I don't think there would be too much anime in the viewing room.  Unless you like old crap like Astro Boy and Star Blazer, or Ghibli stuff.

Wasn't fooled, but wanted to be because I really want this to happen. Despite knowing it wasn't true I was starting to think about my travel plans and how to get those rare Amiibos so I could get a VIP pass. Can we do this in some virtual 3D space? I want to see what that 80's themed arcade will look like, and the massive Nintendo booth, and the Wii fit training area. Also if every cosplayer did characters you liked, it would be a lot more interesting that the usual ten Supermans, Wonder Womans, and Hulks we usually see.

Well I go to mostly video game conventions, and even then I don't know half the characters.  My brother Jeff says a lot of them dress as people from League of Legends, which explains a lot.

Ha, that makes sense.

Cary Woodham

Seriously.  Cosplayers are either League of Legends characters at these video game conventions, or they go the unoriginal route and dress as Mario.  I think it would be fun to cosplay at these things, but I'm a bit too old and since I go as a member of the press, I do have to look a bit professional.

I keep trying to think of a character I could cosplay as, but I don't really come close to any character. I was thinking I may be able to do a greying Solid Snake when i lose the weight. Or maybe with a giant lumpy brown colored sheet with some supporting wires inside, I could do The Great Mighty Poo. LOL

I don't really know what I'd cosplay as either.  Maybe Toad.  Kirby would be fun to dress as but I don't have the body for it, ha ha!  But again, like I said, I'm too old for that anymore.

I'm here! Why is it so dark...and lonely...so ronery...

Cary Woodham

Dark and lonely on my blog?  Never!

Didn't get fooled, but very nice one either way. If I make an Alex Con, i'll subject everyone to Simpsons and Avatar marathons :P

I wonder if there have ever been Simpsons or Avatar conventions.
