Eff Mud Runs

Had 5K mud run this morning. Finished it in about 50 minutes to an hour, which is roughly double my usual 5K time. I knew there would be mud, but somehow underestimated how much it would slow me down and also did not realize there would be Ultimate Ninja Warrior shit like rock climbing walls, climbing ropes, hopping over things, sliding down barrels, jumping from angled square to angled square (hit first 3/4, then barely missed bottom of #4), crawling under ropes through mud, etc. etc. A couple guys I know who are ex-military said they don't like doing stuff like this because it reminds them too much of the military. My friend Ryan is ex-Army and said crap like this is the part he actually enjoyed though, so I dunno. All I know is that mud smells like actual shit and my brand new shoes seem ruined. Fantastic. At least they had free beer at the end, which seems ... ironic.

Afterwards, I hed to the radio station to make sure the interview we did the night before would upload, and of course ot didn't with our tech problems. Wound up uploading an unedited interview, which frustrated everyone, especially the poor DJ who was editing the interview until 2AM. I tried to reassure her none of it was her fault and the interview sounded natural, which was all true.

Then I napped all day until I took my Media History test and headed to the concert of the band the interview was with, Rockett Queen. I talked to their manager Paul, and man he has some stories. He's worked for Relativity Media and Spitfire Records, hanging out with the likes of Motley Crue, Dio, KISS, etc. Even had a story about the first time he heard autotune in NY being used on a pop record. That guy is probably one of the most interesting people I have ever met and incredibly nice.

Anyway, I just got back from that and Whataburger and have to wake up tomorrow to clean up my apartment and head to Dallas, then catch my 7AM flight to Vegas Monday. Sadly, my PS Now subscription is up, but I may renew. I genuinely want to play a lot of the games they offer, both to play for the first time and to replay. Arkham City looks a lot better on a PS4 than it ever did on my laptop and I can't get enough of Sly Cooper. And Ninja Gaiden Sigma seemed easy until the ninjas kept coming and I died in the tutorial level. So far I'm not all that interested in Bioshock Infinite's gameplay, but I would like to see where it all goes. I need to download the free PS+ games for April; I forget what they are.

Before I leave tomorrow, I'll also have to write the editorial and I just realized I still haven't done my taxes. Ugh.

I'm up to an incredible one day a week workout schedule. Amazing isn't it? Well, I hope to increase it mightily and one day, I'd love to do a mud run like that. Obstacles make it even more interesting.

I liked the obstacles, I just wish I'd have known about them. I'd have lifted weights before hand.

I could have warned you about mud runs, lol. My cousins do one in NH. I think they're insane. As for your shoes - let them dry out and then use a stiff brush on them and most of the mud should come off.

We dried them in the sun today and my dad used some online tricks, like putting some newspapers in there. Seems to be working. Hopefully, they'll be ready for my flight tomorrow.

Hairdryers work well, too.

Not really knowing what a mud run was made the first sentence of you blog send me into stitches. Serious my stomach hurts.lol  Anyway I got the the idea as I read on. I would have loved to try something like that back in my my 20's. My best friend, my brother and I used to have a run through the Sousthwest Texas Universty campus (now sadly known as Texas State University). The school is built along the ridge of hills created by the Balcones Fault. Its a parkour runners delight. We were no where near doing Parkour but we ran, climed, and jumped over everything.

That's cool. I know a lot of people who attend or attended TSU.

I don't mind getting myself dirty with mud, but just as long as i'm wearing worn out or old clothes.

Hot damn sounds like the Spartan Race my brother did over the summer. That stuff is crazy, and props for taking part.

I don't think this is quite as intense as a Spartan race obstacle wise, but I couldn't tell you for sure.
