Insomia Sucks

I just deleted a handful of paragraphs I had typed because I found them boring and was only typing them to get myself in a rythm that would put me to sleep, not thinking about the fact that would also put you guys to sleep with how dull it was.

Here instead are some random updates and questions, also dull, but easier to sift through I guess:

- As I posted on Twitter, or as some of you know it, "The Devil," I got 50 WPM with no errors on my typingtest.com typing test, making me a self-proclaimed "Most Efficient Hunt and Pecker Ever"

- Do you play the game Song Pop? I've been playing Street Fighter X Mega Man and Order of Ecclesia  on occassion, but lately the only game I play every day is a music trivia one on Facebook.

- GLaD 25 is outlined, gonna work on it and post it later today when I wake back up.

- I seem to gain and lose weight very quickly ever since I got back down to around 195 pounds recently. I dropped from 218 to that from December to January, but cannot seem to buck this trend of going from 192 to 197 seemingly at random sometimes. It's my fault though, for not being as consistent with my diet and exercising as I should. Oh well, weight from birthday festivities is dropping already, and I plan on running today. Only deadlifted yesterday, but at least watched what I ate.

- Last week at work, I found out one of the people I work with is from, and studied film in, Los Angeles, but came to Dallas and found work more quickly, as we're a budding part of the film and visual media industry. Made me feel a lot better about where I'm at. While I am always looking for more work this way (freelance), I do like that I'm doing something I love as opposed to tolerating something for money, as I grew accustomed to in years past. I'm not exactly a starving artist, but I do need to get out of my parent's house; at least I'm working my way there without being miserable.

- Do you watch any Let's Plays? I watch Game Grumps and Clementj642 on occassion. Listen to Podcasts? I occassionally listen to Radiodrome, SchmoesKnow, used to love listening to Adam Carolla, and of course I've listened to some PB & Jason and Nerds Without Pants on here. I also watch way too many movie and music reviewers. My blip.tv subscriptions constantly need to be deleted; no time for as many as I have, and I'm subscribed to a few Youtubers as well.

- How interested are you in news and philosophy? I think I'm going to start a separate blog for that; even if no one reads it, it'll be nice to put my thoughts somewhere and not mix in with this site, that I'd like to keep as a place for community, entertainment and fun.

- Technically I get outdoors plenty cause of my walks and jogs and runs, but at the same time, dear God I need to get out more, as in with partying and friends. I don't want to do anything as crazy as I did in high school, but I need something besides this blog to keep me sane.Luckily, some friends have proposed some plans, hopefully those pan out. I wish everyone could just have the same schedule and be free on weekends, things would be much easier.

- I need to read more to keep my mind sharp. Gonna keep going at Catching Fire. I was glad to get through a chapter or two the other day, I'm on 14 or 15 now. After I finish the trilogy, I think I'll read some non-fiction.

- I really wish I could find my Gameboy Color and Pokemon Pinball. That game was great. Or my copy of Pokemon Blue, just for memory's sake. I was never even all that into the series, but damn am I feeling nostalgic for it

- I hated Dragonball Z even as a kid, but really liked the episodes of Dragonball I saw my Freshman year of college when I was told it existed.

- I prefer the flavor vanilla bean to cholate for ice cream, but my favorite flavors are probably orange sherbert and mint chocolate chip, especially in a cone

- My current focus is self improvement, and I believe balance is the key to everything.

yeah I just woke up at 4:30 here.  Seems like the new routine.  I used to stay up all night though and I am sleeping more now, which is good.

- that's about close to what I used to type back when I was a typist for the U.S. Department of State.

- Nope.

- You're a couple GLaD's ahead of me, but I'll catch up.

- I have a weight problem too, but only in the past couple years since I went on medication. I'm around 240 now, but ten years ago I was half that and very unhealthy.  I kind of like being heavier, but I'm a little too heavy now.  Gotta find a happy medium

- I'm glad you like your job.  That's really important.

- Nah, I don't watch much youtube or online videos except for music equipment demos and live performances.

- I like philosophy, but I stay away from the news.  I find life better when I don't know what's going on out there.

- I feel ya on the getting out with friends more.  But I just moved here and don't know anybody. I keep in touch with all my friends on the internet.  My plan is to start playing music eventually and meet some new people that way.

- Nonfiction is good.  I enjoy poetry and plays when I'm not reading fiction.  I used to read fiction all the time but I don't have the patience anymore.

- I still haven't been able to get into a Pokemon game, but I'm hoping to try again with the new 3DS version.

- Can't really tolerate Dragonball Z

- I like chocolate, but I prefer using vanilla and drowning it in toppings like butterscotch.

- I'm not good at self-improvement, and I need to exercise and eat better.

- I've been meaning to take my civil service test and see if I can't get a government job if I find I need a larger income.Perhaps I'll apply for typist.

- I see you've already posted 22 and 23. I'll go read those.

- Yeah, medication can really screw with it. I'm hoping some of my stubborn weight is muscle from the weightlifting. I too would like a balance, don't want to get too skinny either.

- I love it, just need to have more of it.

- I watch a lot of music videos as well.

- I hear you, I think in many cases, all it does it provide people useless conversation ammo at the "water cooler," but I like to know what's generally going on. I try to just get the headlines at least then research on my own; unfortunately, certain news outlets are unavoidable in this house...

- Yeah, I'm always cooped up here with my parents, who I love, but I need human interaction outside of just them and work. Of course, my coworkers are cool enough I'd grab a beer with them, but still. Music is a great way to meet people.

- I still have the patience, I just feel like I'd gain more from non-fiction. Poetry and plays are good reads, too.

- If you haven't gotten into it, quite possibly you won't. I'd say by this time it's perfectly fair to say you don't like something, but hey, if you think it'll pan out, go for it.

- I can't really tolerate it, either, even as a kid...

- Butterscotch is good, too.

- I think you're great at self-improvement when it comes to what you seem to love, which is music. I've always liked or at least appreciated your stuff. The key to dieting and exercise is really just consistency, and you know how to be consistent; just pick an easy goal starting out and stick to it. Weight loss apps can help, at least in my case.

Well.

I am not a Pokemon fan, really dislike the games.

I like Dragonball better than Dragonball Z.

I am split right now between Fiction-Non fiction and science "not fiction".

I would read your blogs about philosophy.

Yup, that is about it. I hope you can get some rest. I have delt with Insomia since 2003, So I feel your pain.

Well, if you didn't grow up with them, I can certainly see that, I don't think I'd like the old one as much if I weren't nostalgic for it. Never bought a game past the very first one on Gameboy, though, didn't see the point, all looked like basically the same game with updated graphics and more creatures. Meh. The pinball one though, I genuinely think is awesome.

I'm glad we agree on Dragonball, I never got into Z, too much talking. Original is funny to me.

Fiction-Non Fiction, do you mean like sort of a book version of a "based on the story of..." movie, where it's about an actual thing, but they take a bunch of liberties with it? And I'm interested in science non-fiction as well, I was never great at math or science, but I'm finding that's cause I didn't focus myself enough because I thought I was so bad at them. Turns out, I love them both, just need to focus a bit harder to understand them better.

I might post some about philosophy then, at some point.

And thanks, I got some sleep, hope your insomnia's not treating you too badly.

Since I'm just using my phone, I'm can't comment on everything you wrote, but wanted to make sure and say that I am also a philosophy fan (but sorta dumb) and would like to read blogs about that too.

Sorry about your insomnia too.... It can be really rough. Seems like most of us have this in common here!

Yeah, it's not so much lack of sleep in my case, it's that I "plug myself in" so to speak at night, cause everything's more interesting then. My fault, just have to turn myself around.

And I'm also dumb, yet love philosophy, so we'll have that in common. lol I've been meaning to tell Nick how awesome it is when I'm able to comment on my phone, when 1up won't budge for me to do so (highlights the top part of the comment box below title, but I can't do anything), though Pixlbit has done some of the same for me recently. My phone is old though, so I'm just happy I can view the site from my LG Optimus V.

but insomniac is awesome.

Also, your flavour of ice cream reminded me of stephen lynch and his song vanilla ice cream.

I know who Stephen Lynch is, but have not heard this ice cream song. I'll have to look that up.

Only Insomniac games I've played are Ratchet & Clank, and a bit of Spyro when I was little, but based on those, they do seem pretty cool.

I hear about not being able to sleep. I share a room with my gramma when I visit her, and she's 88 and going blind, so we leave nightlights on for when she has to get up in the night and the light keeps me awake. Plus, I think I miss having Kaylee purring in my ear  all night and the dog's a damned bedhog in a twin bed. I love visiting family, but I'll be glad to get home, too.

Super Step Contributing Writer

03/25/2013 at 05:24 PM

I've never had bedhog dogs, or dogs at all, but I used to like it when Clinger would sleep at the foot of my bed in a ball, purring. That actually helped me sleep, same way Kaylee helps you.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom, that doesn't sound like any fun. In my case, the light being on tends to help me sleep. It's not a fear thing, I'm not afraid of the dark, it's just that I always find myself needing to get up to turn it off, which ruins the sleepiness factor for me. I need a remote for that thing...

In college I had some really bad insomnia and was up almost all night every night. Since then I go through random bouts of it, but typically speaking, I can get a night of sleep. I don't sleep too much, maybe 4 or 5 hours a night, but that's not too bad. It works out having kids because it's not too terrible for me to get up in the middle of the night with my younger son when he needs to eat.

More importantly, your ice cream choice definitely reigns supreme. Mint, of any variety, in a sugar cone is made of much win.

Super Step Contributing Writer

03/25/2013 at 05:19 PM

Yeah, I've never heard a parent of a really small youngster reporting too much sleep, so four to five hours is good. lol My weight loss app tells me to try and get seven, and I usually get that, the problem is it's during the day. If work calls one of these times, I'm screwed, or at least not enthusiastic about driving through downtown Dallas tired.

And mint is great.

Well with me needing a Hip replacement I wake up all throughout the night with my entire leg asleep or cramping or my hip throbbing and I take pain and sleep meds which do help and the fact I dont go to sleep until at least 1 am and my two year old is up at 5:30 am on the nose everyday doesntnhelp either, I just take what I can get after all I have eternity to sleep when im gone lol.

Super Step Contributing Writer

The I'll Sleep When I'm Dead approach, very noble. I hope you get your hip replacement soon, getting even less sleep with a kid around doesn't sound fun.

I'm on day 7 of a self improvement( "kind of" ) I've gained 25 lbs this past year, stopped exercising, and eating terrible.  Last time I started with cardio, which I hate, and it didn't last lont.  I used to love lifting weights so that's what I'm doing.  I'm trying to change my body first.  As far as bad diet, my first step is to avoid fast food and when I do eat out avoid fried.

I went to the library last week and picked up a book called " That's not  a feelling" .  It's pretty good.  It's about a boy named Benjamin. His parents drop him off at an alterntive school because he's tried to kill himself a couple times.  The school isn't really run by the highest quality proffesionals either.  Anyway it's pretty good.

I love Sherbet.

Super Step Contributing Writer

03/25/2013 at 05:14 PM

Yeah, I had gained roughly that by the end of last year cause I was taking my girlfriends out to eat too damn much. I've only now started running, but because I had the time to do it, I was only walking three miles a day along with using an app called Noom Weight Loss Coach on my phone to track calories. I hate cardio too, but walking is nice, allowed me to get out and listen to music.

That book sounds vaguely like Catcher in the Rye in reverse, or maybe Dead Poets Society in reverse? Probably I'm just making too much of a connection with the depression and alternative/boarding school themes. Either way, interesting.

Everyone should love sherbert, it's awesome. I'm glad we agree on that. lol

I haven't had as many problems with weight lately but it's still been hard to kick my caffeine/soda addiction. I'm still chugging away on my Pepsi, sadly. lol.

To compensate for my gluttony of soft drinks, I at least managed to meet my resolution of keeping my apartment cleaner. It might help I'm going through a bit of "gamer burn out".

PS: Had a bout of Insomia yesterday. I always get it before important appointments. Anxiety disorders suck,Joe!

Super Step Contributing Writer

03/25/2013 at 06:21 PM

I have some anxiety as well, but it's not nearly as bad since I left college and stopped working with Residence Life.Insomnia's been easier to manage, too.

I love water, so I've been successful in my soft drink ban. I do cheat every once in a while for root beer, though.

I prefer Coke to Pepsi, let's fight! Kidding. lol Thanks for the comment.

I have always had some type of battle with insomnia. Its no fun when you have to be up in the early mornings for work. Im glad that my job doesnt give me many of those. I have come to accept the fact that secretly in my past life I was a vampire and my current body and lifestyle is needing a big adjustment. Thats my story and Im stinking to it! Kind of wish I had my past life body, I was more then likely thin, long black hair and beautiful instead of the mess I call myself. Speaking on self improvement, Im still working on losing weight. Its not really going anywhere forward but not backwards either so Im okay with it.

Super Step Contributing Writer

03/25/2013 at 09:52 PM

We're in the same boat on the weight loss, I've been stagnant, but at least I'm stagnating at a decent weight. lol

I think your vampire theory makes sense. lol

Philosophy is actually one of my favorite topics so I'll definitely give whatever you write about that a read. Orange sherbert is my absolute favorite kind of ice cream too. I hated Dragon Ball Z as a kid, but I got into it about a year ago for some reason. I enjoy a Let's Play every now and then, but only funny ones, preferably rants about the game in question. And as a senior in high school, self improvement isn't exactly at the top of my list of things to do. I'm just trying to get the hell out of here. Hopefully my motivation for better living and goals will resurface in college. We'll just have to see...

Super Step Contributing Writer

03/25/2013 at 10:56 PM

People seem pretty interested in philosophy on here, I guess I'll have to actually think of something now. lol

Orange sherbert is awesome.

I guess I could get into DBZ, but I don't think I'm gonna go out of my way to find out; I would like to finish Dragonball though.

I mostly watch Game Grumps' Sonic 06 playthrough, which is a funny rant on the game when they actually talk about it and don't just bullshit around . lol

I was the same way my last year in high school, I was just done. Having graduated college just last year though, and with a job that allows me the free time to do so, I've been wanting to improve things about myself using said free time. I think everyone just wants to get the hell out of high school after a while though, so I definitely know where you're coming from.

Julian and I have mad insomnia too. I was supposed to be asleep a couple of hours ago, for instance. I just keep finding things to do and play! Hard to stop when you are on a roll.

I was almost asleep a couple hours ago myself, and then saw this

and watched the whole damn thing. Yell
