March of Reviews

Thank goodness February is over, huh?  Nothing seems to go well that month.  So we’ll start off March right with another batch of games I’ve reviewed lately over at GamerDad.com.  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a comment or two here or there.  I’d really appreciate it.  Thanks so much and let’s begin!

LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Level Pack

Ghostbusters is one of my favorite movies, so I was happy to find out that it was one of the licenses they used in LEGO Dimensions.  I didn’t get to review LEGO Dimensions probably because it was pretty expensive, but I used some gift certificate money to buy it.  So when the LEGO Ghostbusters Level Pack came out recently, I figured I’d have to buy that, too.  But the neat thing was that I requested a review copy of it anyway, thinking I wouldn’t get it, but I did!  Which helps since I don’t have a job right now so anything I don’t have to pay for is great.  You’ll just have to click and read the review if you want to know what I think of it!  I hope I get to review the Midway Arcade Classic LEGO pack that comes out in March!  I know there is a new Ghostbusters movie coming out in a few months, and a lot of people are complaining about it since it has an all-female cast.  But I’ll still give it a chance.  The way I see it, if it causes Hi-C to bring back Ecto-Cooler, I’m cool with it.  I loved that stuff as a kid!  I’ve heard that Hi-C’s parent company Coca-Cola just renewed the copyrights for Ecto-Cooler, so that’s cool!

Star Wars Pinball: The Force Awakens Pack (PS3)

This has a couple of Star Wars: The Force Awakens tables for the Pinball FX2/Zen Pinball 2 sets.  I won’t say much about them here since people on the Internet are pretty sensitive about spoilers, especially concerning Star Wars movies.  So just be warned before you click on this review!  I will say that I liked how the plunger for one of the tables is that flying thing that one lady drives around in the sand and it looks like a fudgesicle.  That was my favorite vehicle from the movie.

March of Amiibos

Here’s another collection of amiibo figures I’ve recently acquired.  This time it’s a few new Animal Crossing ones and Shovel Knight!  I’m glad Blathers the Owl was in this set, he’s my favorite AC character.

Slice It!  (3DS)

This is a math puzzle game downloadable on the 3DS from Aksys no less.  You must use the stylus to cut lines into shapes so they make smaller shapes of equal sizes.  It’s pretty hard, but math is pretty tough for me!

Punch Club (iPad)

It’s an interesting mix of a boxing game and virtual pet simulator.  Kind of like Tamagotchi meets Rocky.  Tama-Rocky.  Yeah, I made that up myself and I’m proud of it.  Anyway, in this game you must train a boxer and give him the right foods, train him, and earn money so you can buy more food and gym fees.  You assign moves you learn and then go into fights in hopes to win.  It’s an interesting idea and I’ve always been intrigued by virtual pet simulators.  My only problem is I’m not too big on boxing, and they kind of cram everything you must do all at once.  Plus the storyline is a bit too serious for my tastes.  Yes it has a storyline. I loved the retro graphics, though.

Super Phantom Cat (iPad)

Just a generic 2-D platformer on the iPad.  These games are usually fine until you must perform precise jumps, which are hard to do with touch screen controls.  This one is no exception.  The text translation is also horrible and full of broken English.

Dungelot: Shattered Lands (iPad)

Now this is an interesting mix.  This is what you get when you combine dungeon crawling with…Minesweeper?!?  You’ll just have to read the review to find out how it works.   It didn’t really keep my interest, though, but then, I’m not a big Minesweeper fan either.

Minecraft: Story Mode: Episode 4 (PS3)

And last is the fourth episode of Minecraft: Story Mode.  Those who read my blogs know how I feel about this game, and this episode is no different, so I won’t go into it here again.  What’s weird is that they concluded the story in this last episode, but there’s one more left!  I wonder what they’re going to do?  It hasn’t been released yet, but when they do, I’ll review it as well.

Conclusions

And that’s all for now.  Thanks again for reading my reviews and posting comments. I really appreciate it.  Before I go, I wanted to let you know about a few things with me.  First of all, I’ve been accepted into the National Association of Video Game Trade Reviewers (NAVGTR for short).  It sounds fancy, but I think all they do is just select prolific game reviewers and let them vote on best games of the year and stuff.  But I think it’ll look good on paper anyway.

Also, at the beginning of April, the National Videogame Museum is opening in Frisco, TX, which is near where I live.  When I stopped working at my last job, I sent the museum folks an email to let them know that if they had any job openings, I’d be interested in applying.  I never did hear back from them until a couple of weeks ago.  They were looking for volunteers before opening, and set up a few meetings to talk with people who expressed interest.  So I went to one of the meetings and the museum looks really cool!  It’s not some rinky-dink operation either; it looks like something you’d see at E3 or even Disney World!  Anyway, they said that when the museum opens, there may be some paid job opportunities opening up.  I haven’t heard from them after the meeting last week, but please, please, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers on that.  It’s so hard for me to find a job since I can’t drive (blind in my left eye since birth), and even harder to find a job that I would actually WANT to do.  I think this opportunity would be perfect for me, so any prayers in that direction would be greatly appreciated.  I’ll keep you all posted as I find out more.  Later!  --Cary

You said it, February was positively hell for me. But, at least I got a lot of toys to life stuff cheap. Maybe that's what kept me sane.

Good luck with the museum job. That should be perfect for you.

Video game stuff usually helps me feel better, too.  Right now I feel better playing Twilight Princess HD, which just came out.  Thanks for reading!

Rooting for you to get the job! Heck, I might apply if I move back to Dallas. That sounds like fun. I'll definitely visit there at least once.

I can't imagine touch controls with precise platform. Phantom Cat sounds nightmarish.

I know how you feel about Tellale games, I still haven't played my free Walking Dead game; I'll have to re-up my PS+ subscription to play it though.

I hope I can get a job at the museum, and then I hope you can visit because you might see me!

Super Phantom Cat seems easy at first, but it gets harder later on.

I don't think Walking Dead is worth renewing a PS+ subscription.  I don't een use PS+.

Good luck getting a job at the new museum! I am excited for it to open. Right next door in a little over a week is the Pinball Festival too! I am stoked for all of our DFW video game coolness!

You could just be at the Pac-Man info desk all day. Nobody would be better suited.

If you go to the pinball expo, I think you can get a ticket to see the game museum early.

Are you going to the festival? We are still trying to figure out which days and who in my family will be going and when. Don't think the 5 year old is interested, but the rest of us love it. If you're there, maybe I'll see you.

Thanks for the ticket tip!

I don't know.  I haven't really thought about it.  I'd have to arrange transportation to go there.
