Can you believe it’s May already?  Anyway, I’ve got another crop of game reviews blooming over at GamerDad.com, so here are some links and things to those reviews.  Please click on and read whatever you can, and maybe even post a comment here or there.  I’d really appreciate it.  Thanks for reading!

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut (Wii U)

I’ve always been a big fan of the Shantae games; ever since I played it on the Game Boy (still have my boxed copy).  The sequel was originally on DSiWare, but WayForward just released a Director’s Cut on Wii U with a few added features.  While Risky’s Revenge is my least favorite Shantae game, it’s still a lot of fun.  I can’t wait for the next game in the series: Half-Genie Hero!

PixlCross (Wii U)

So there’s this web site out there called PixlBit.  You MIGHT have heard of it, maybe.  There are a few people who help run the site and they made their own game!  It’s a Picross style puzzler for Wii U and PC.  It’s pretty decent, and a good deal at only six bucks since you get so much content.  If you have a Wii U, I’d download it and show these folks your support.  I think it’s the only Picross game on Wii U right now.

Sonic Drive In has Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Themed Kids Meal Toys

Just a bit of news I thought GamerDad readers might find interesting.  Sonic Drive In restaurants have toys in their kids meals based on Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.  Seems kind of a weird game to make kids toys out of, and especially since the game came out in January.  But I’m not complaining because it’s rare we get video game themed toys in fast food kids’ meals anyway!  I also think it’s ironic that a ‘Sonic’ restaurant has ‘Mario’ toys.  Ha ha!  Anyway, in the article I posted a picture of the papercraft Goomba I got last week.  But since then, I got another toy.  It’s a Papercraft Peach and a sticker album.  I haven’t messed with the papercraft yet, but the sticker album has four sheets of stickers already in the book, and only one full page to stick them on.  When I was a kid, sticker albums were so cool, but as an adult, I just ask myself, “What’s the point?”  So yeah, some toys are better than others.  Oh well.

The Three R’s of Amiibo: Ryu, Roy, and R.O.B.

I took pictures of my last batch of amiibo figures I got again.  This time it’s more Animal Crossing ones, as well as Ryu, Roy, and the Famicom colored R.O.B., which I’m surprised they are selling in the US.  Next month there are even more amiibo figures coming out!  But those are based on my favorite Nintendo franchise: Kirby!  And in July are more Splatoon amiibo!

Lovely Planet (Wii U)

This is a fast-paced, arcade style single player FPS game.  Normally I don’t get into these kinds of games, but this one had visuals and audio that resembled Katamari Damacy.  I called it Katamari “Doom”acy, aren’t I clever?  Unfortunately, the game is still too hard for me.  But if you’re an FPS pro and want something different, you may want to check this out.

Aegis of Earth: Protonovus Assault (PS3)

It’s like a mix of a city building game like SimCity, combined with a tower defense game as you must also build guns and missile launcher sites to keep your city safe against constant giant monster attacks.  It actually turned out better than I thought it would.  So if you enjoy SimCity games but want a bit more urgency in the gameplay, try this one out.

Stranger of Sword City (Vita)

I got a Vita for Christmas last year, and I think this is my first official Vita game review!  It’s just a Wizardry clone with some modern amenities, like an in-game map.  You just explore dungeons and fight turn-based battles in first person perspective.  If you like Wizardry games, you may like this, too.  I hear Wizardry is actually pretty popular in Japan.

Super Arc Light (iPad)

This is an interesting Tempest-like shooter that uses only ‘one-button’ controls.  It’s kind of neat, but also hard.  You’ll just have to read the review if you want any more info than that.

Minecraft Story Mode: Episode 5: Order Up! (PS3)

And last is the final episode in Minecraft: Story Mode.  It’s pretty much the same as all the others, so you know what to expect with my review.  What’s weird is that they actually concluded the story in Episode 4, but started a new one in Episode 5.  The game will have three more bonus episodes, and if I get to review them, you’ll see them here, too!

And that’s all for now!  Again, thanks for reading and commenting.  I appreciate it.  Later!  --Cary

I've seen a lot of people complaining about the difficulty of Stranger of Sword on Twitter. I normally enjoy a good dungeon crawler, but if it has permadeath...hmmm...i don't know.

Well it's like Wizardry, and that was a difficult game, too.  Even if there is permadeath, you can create your own characters, so i don't know if it really matters.

I added Shantae, Aegis of Earth and Stranger of Sword City to my list. And Pixlcross too goes without saying.

I've been a big fan of Shantae games ever since the first one came out.  Aegis of Earth was a lot better than I thought it would be.  While I'm not big into Wizardry, if you are, you'd probably like Stranger of Sword City.  And PixlCross is great if you really enjoy Picross.
