BaD Excuses

Work was ... interesting today. Let's just say certain meetings don't need to be addressed to everyone and sometimes attacking negativity with more negativity leads to more negativity ... don't mind me, just vague Facebooking on an entertainment website. Clogging up your escape website with gossipy bullshit.

Here's a cat:

Fuck your escapism Charles, I'm tryna start some shit on the Meownternets!

Back to escapism:

So let's play a game. I tell you what excuse I'm using to make sure I don't spend too much money on discounted games in the PS Store this week, and you refute it telling me why I should get that game. If the argument is compelling, I'll make another childlike decision to burn money.

I'm not even gonna ask about the Oscars sale, cause there are a lot on there I want to see, though I do suspect they're listing SD rental prices again in an effort to make those look cheaper than they are.

Here we go:

Inside

It's on sale for $11.99, and I liked the demo, but once I was done with Limbo, I didn't instantly consider it a masterpiece. It was just a 2D puzzle-platfromer with a more interesting aesthetic than usual and I didn't really "get" the story. Plus, am I not better off just watching the Game Grumps playthrough for the "story" part? I could see an argument for the tension coming from actually playing a game; lord knows I can watch RE7 all day long in the dark alone, but I can NOT play that thing without getting stressed.

Also, when the frick is either Shovel Knight  or Ducktales Remastered gonna go on sale again, so I can save indie gaming money for those?

Titanfall 2 is on sale for $22.99 and I'm really curious about it. But I don't see a demo and I never played the first one this supposedly improves on. The only FPS I own is Wolfenstein: The New Order, and while I love that games' opening levels, I honestly got tired of it pretty quick. I just don't do great in later FPS levels, and switching from normal (too hard) to easy (might as well not even play) is too big of a gap for me to find a sweet spot. I have no idea if that's relevant here or not.

The giant mech thing seems cool, but will there be anyone to play online with, given this game's relatively poor sales? I dunno if my friend would come over for local multiplayer for this one.

Fallout 4 is $35.99, which is not bad for the game that kept gamers away from porn during its launch. But I always thought F3 looked boring and even though 4 looks really cool and is set in Boston, which I have a lot of love for, I just don't know if it's for me. A colleague actually had me sit down and make a character for some research he was doing, but given how long we were in the character customization (which is not my favorite thing to do in a game), I couldn't tell from just the beginning.

SFV is a PS4 exclusive (I want to own them all at some point) and at $23.99, I might be able to forgive it if there's been a LOT of content added since it first came out. Is there at least a campaign/story/arcade mode now? Cause shit was a demo when I rented it from Red Box March of last year.

I enjoyed the demo and some of the soundtrack for Life is Strange, which is $7.99, but should I play this or the Telltale Batman game?

MGSV is $29.99, but I still haven't played 3 or 4. Plus, a lot of folks seem to think it was a bit half assed because Kojima was leaving Konami?

I really want to play Dishonored 2, but for $44.99 it's still too high for a digital purchase. I think I'd rather just get it via Gamefly.

I liked the Doom demo ok, but not near as pants-jizzingly much as everyone else seems to have. I was never obsessed with the original. I played it and liked it on N64 (so Doom 64), but it wasn't life-changing by any means. It probably won't be $35.99 again for a while, but while I definitely appreciate the lack of reloading and the fact it's not a cover shooter and the fast pace, should I really take a jump on something I feel has been just a tad overhyped? And would local multiplayer be fun enough for friends?

Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator is suuuuper tempting, but I already own the  -Sign- version. Is it worth paying $35.99 for an update of my favorite fighting game franchise? Or am I better off just waiting for a sequel?

Finally, I do really like the concept behind Furi, but I kinda want to play a demo before buying it at $13.99.

There are Deus Ex titles for sale, but I've never played one. Not sure I'd like it or not.

So ... what say you, Pixlbit? Anything you think I should just go ahead and buy?

You make a compelling argument. And honestly, I'm planning on NOT buying any of these unless someone makes a REALLY damn good case for one of them.

I'm more just interested in how people will respond.

I got SFV at Capcom's booth at PAX South for just 20 bucks, and I'll say it's probably not worth more than that.  Although I don't really play fighting games much.  I will say that Cammy is super cool in SFV.

This year's PAX or earlier? I'm wondering how much content they added through DLC as planned.

PAX South a few weeks ago.

I say, if you can't decide what to buy, then it's probably best to buy nothing and save your money.  There are better deals down the road and you probably own plenty of games you haven't played yet.  I know I do.

My thoughts exactly. But I do have a decent pile of green and no kids. Maybe I'll buy stock instead ...Cool

I was told many years ago to invest in something.  Why didn't I listen?

"Work was. . . interesting today." comes at the exact time I had the same problem. Well, I had mine at about 8:30 and now I'm out of work. I'm looking at it with a possitive attitude though because I was going to quit at the end of May anyway. I'm going to do exactly what I want from now on and we'll see where the chips fall.

I would say, rent them all unless one gives you that special feeling. That's how I do it now. Everything goes on my rental list until I get that crazy feeling that I just can't wait one minute after release day to play it. Then I trade like heck to make that thing as cheap out of pocket as possible. I'm trying to ignore that urgent feeling though. I'd like to rent exclusively. Saves me a lot of money.

Yeah, the urge to type gamefly.com/doubletoasted into a search bar rises every time I see how many games I bought for $5 I marathoned in a weekend.

I would make a strong case for Life is Strange and the Deus Ex games. Life is Strange is a great story with some real emotional kick to it. Not quite a Telltale adventure game or a day in the life game, but I'd put it in that wheelhouse.

The recent Deus Ex games are mechanically some of the most fun I've had with stealth, period. Slinking around, hacking into people's emails to find passwords and bypassing combat...mmm.

I can't really speak to the others. I've played a bit of Shovel Knight and I like it a lot, but it was either too hard for me or I was having issues with the Vita's D-pad. I own Dishonored 2 and Fallout 4 but haven't played them enough to comment on them.

Life is Strange, you say. That is on the cheaper end of this list, and I could dig a more relaxing game revolving around photography.

Deus Ex I'll have to go back and look at prices. Because I bought Witcher 3 and Bloodborne for $30-$40 each purely on hype and haven't really played much of either, I don't really do that any more for games I wasn't already excited about myself ( the hype being other peoples'). $30 for Rise of the Tom Raider was 100% worth it well after hype died down cause I knew I'D like it.

I actually already own Shovel Knight on Steam and loved it even with a 360 joystick. I'm just itching to play it with a PS4 dpad.

Wait wait wait attacking negativity with negativity doesnt work? That's crazy talk. It's working well in the real world.

As for the games if its cheap, and you're going to play them, get them. Also take that with a grain of salt coming from a guy who'll buy a bundle of games to try one game because the bundle costs $2.

Telltale Batman is good, I haven't tried Life is Strange but at some point I'll probably will and say it is also good.

I didn't like Ducktales. I haven't tried Titanfall but its supposed to be good, the last Fallout game I played I made some bad choices and didn't go back to it. I didn't know SFV was a PS4 exclusive and now I kinda want to own a copy to keep the streak alive, I believe there is an Anniversary Edition of Doom at GameStop for $10 if that interests you and finally Deus Ex. I thought the one I played on the original XBox was ok, and the mobile game was fine. That's my only experiences with the franchise...Oh wait I do have a copy of one of them on the 360 I haven't touched.

Well, there is that post going around Facebook about all the good that's happening because of negative feelings (civil engagement and political awareness is WAY higher than it usually is being a couple things on that list), but I'll go back to talking about games.

I mean at $2, yeah I'd do that too if I wanted to play the game. Usually, I try to avoid buying anything above $10 unless I know I'd like it on some level. The $40 I spent on Bloodborne could have bought me both Until Dawn and Ratchet & Clank, and now I'm sad I bought into other peoples' hype and the idea I should buy things that release around my birthday.

Telltale Batman was on sale recently, but part of me still wants to finish off my PS+ copy of Walking Dead Season 2 before deciding to buy a Telltale item.

SFV  is a console exclusive for PS4, but it's also on PC. If Doom Aniversary is more like the older game and not the newer one, I think I'll pass. I might just look at that modded Doom game on PC that was all the rage a while back.

I haven't seen this post, but being me it hasn't stopped me from comparing folks to bandwagon fans when it comes to politics. There have been a lot of misinformation being floated around. The one positive is that there hasn't been any name calling among my friendslist.

Buying into the hype for a game happens. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. If a game is $40+ I better be damn sure I really want to play it right away or else 20 and below is the sweet spot.

I should jump into the Walking Dead games especially since I got them for free from Amazon.

Ok I wasn't imagining seeing SFV being available on the PC. Doom was fun because of the flashlight mods among other things.

Titanfall 1 was multiplayer-only, so I don't think you're missing much by skipping the original. Though I haven't played Titanfall 2 yet, still waiting for that bargain bin price it will inevitably drop to (I know, I'm part of the problem as to why this game sold so poorly).

MGS5 is fantastic despite it being kind of an unfinished game. You don't really need to play MGS3 or 4 to understand the story. It's surprisingly easy to get into. Gameplay is the series' best, IMO.

Why is it series' best gameplay?

Halochief90

02/25/2017 at 04:49 PM

Because it's the most fun to play lol

Ok but is it that the stealth is made better, the open world aspect, the gunplay? Cause for me it makes a difference what's stronger about it.

Halochief90

02/25/2017 at 10:28 PM

Mostly for the gunplay and the open-world elements. I don't think it has the best stealth, but I was never big on the series' stealth elements, personally.
