Yeah, I was all excited about $500 4K, until realizing it was really $1000 at that point.

I realize it upscales for 1080p TVs, but ...

Nope. The only console I'm interested in picking up this year is a Switch.

The more I consider it, the more I feel like my PS4 still has plenty waiting for me to get to. I'm excited to watch Nintendo's conference though.

I voted no. I don't need a 4K TV when my current TV is fine, and I don't want to drop $500 on a console that needs a 4K TV to get the most out of it.

Same here. I wonder who voted yes.

No. Don't have a 4K TV and I'm fine with current gen graphics. I might consider a One or S if at all, but no. Not X. I honestly think it's just meant for the hardcore X fans that hate seeing Sony out muscle their hardware specs. Im sure new games will get a graphics boost, but Nintendo makes such perty games with much less graphics capability.

That Mario odyssey trailer did look pretty sweet.

This reminds me about something I noticed during presentations that kind of irked me, and that is: emphasis on open worlds, which is a trend in gaming I've been dreading. The only game I've seen something refreshing and interesting being done with open world design was Shadow of Mordor, but it was mostly the AI of enemies hunting you down, not so much the setting itself, which is ironic because a lot of the tech and hardware being pushed is to showcase nicer graphics not so much in creative gameplay. Whats the point in pretty worlds if the game mechanics are boring and repetative? The open worlds they showed are actually very directed and quest driven it seems, like Metro and Assassins Creed, so its more like they are pretty sandboxes. ROCKPAPERSHOTGUN wrote more on this recently, but I just want more nice short games or at least creativity with game mechanics at least. 4K and beefy hardware specs dont really mean better games. Maybe if VR has cooler things that require upgrade to PSPro, but I don't really care about VR either.

I'm actually excited for VR, but as I keep telling Julian, I'm just not going to spend money on something until I can try it for myself first.

And I prefer ther old-school style of having distinct levels and goals, since most of the time open world to me just translates to "boring travel." So I'm with you there.

I love open worlds in some cases, and I do think it's cool to be able to see so far and actually get there, but the charm of that is lost in games without fun traversal mechanics (I do love that Saints Row IV makes on-foot go about as fast as a vehicle) or a teleport option after a while.

A lot of Saints Row games are on sale right now. Which would you recommend is the best, most fun to get into? There are older ones on sale too. Is it story driven where playing through the whole series from beginning adds to experience, or just play the latest one is good enough?

Since i have only owned and barely played IV...

I would take advantage of the very likely Gamestop trade-in deal to upgrade from Xbox One to One X for the better processing speed and slight graphical upgrade on my 1080p TV, but I'm forbidding myself any purchases at the moment. 4K TVs don't interest me too much. I only use my TV for games, I don't watch BlueRay movies anymore and I dont' think the difference over HDTV is all that dramatic. I guess I'd go to BestBuy or somewhere to see one though if I had money to spend. Maybe it's worth it, I don't know.

The 4kTV (curved) I saw Guardians of the Galazy on did show a dramatic difference to me, but I'm still not opening my wallet either.

I'm content with 1080p for now and I need the money for other things.

I"ve gone through the tv upgrade thing a couple times already. I'm not feeling it this time.
