April Fools Reviews!

Hey folks, I just wanted to post this blog to let you know that I won’t be writing any more game reviews.  APRIL FOOLS!  This blog is the total opposite of that!  It’s more reviews I’ve written recently at  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it.

Overwatch Cereal?!?

This is no April Fools joke, this stuff actually exists.  I saw it at the grocery store and had to buy it and write about it.  I don’t know much about Overwatch, so my review of this stuff wasn’t as explicit as say, my Mario cereal review.  I know there is a character named Tracer, and another character with pink hair, and a gorilla I think.  But while the characters are certainly interesting, the gameplay of Overwatch just isn’t my cup of tea.  I’m surprised that Overwatch was the next in line to get the cereal treatment.  What’s next?  Fortnite Flakes?  I’d rather see a Kirby or Mega Man cereal.  What do you think?

The LEGO Movie 2 Video Game (PS4)

This was an April Fools joke on me!  I came into this game expecting yet another typical LEGO adventure game, but it’s actually different!  It plays more like LEGO Worlds, a game I reviewed a couple of years ago.  So I was pleasantly surprised.  It made me think about how they could make other LEGO games different, too.  Like a LEGO TMNT game that plays like the arcade, or a LEGO RPG.  With the LEGO toys, the possibilities are endless, so why can’t the LEGO games be, too?

DreamWorks Dragons: Dawn of New Riders (Switch)

And yet another April Fools joke on me, as this movie licensed game is actually pretty good.  It has events from the third movie, but it’s mostly its own story with new characters and settings.  It plays like a top down action adventure game like Zelda.  It’s not as good as Zelda, of course, but it’s a lot better than what I thought it would be.

Mercury Learning Books

When I was at PAX South, I visited Mercury Learning Books.  They publish books about game design.  They wanted me to review a couple of their books, and I was a bit skittish at first because I’d rather play games, not make them.  But when the lady at the booth showed me a book with Pac-Man on it, and it was written by the guy who helped make Crystal Castles, I had to give it a try!  My dad also wrote a short review on one of the books, so be sure to read that, too.  I knew my dad was smart, but I didn’t know he was a good writer as well!

Crocs, Climbers, and Carnivorous Plants, Oh My!

My newest entries in my amiibo collection are King K. Rool, Ice Climbers, and Piranha Plant.  They all look nice, but I’m not a big fan of Piranha Plant in Smash Bros. because I think there are enough Mario characters already.

Jump Force and Cup Noodles Team Up!

Jump Force is a 3-D fighting game with lots of popular anime characters.  Cup Noodles is doing a promotion with that game kind of like how they did with the Final Fantasy fighting game last year.  At PAX South, if you played Jump Force, they gave you a cup of these noodles.  I’d be pretty disappointed if I waited in line to play that game, only to get a cup of nasty ramen that you can get at the store for pocket change.

Treasure Stack (Switch)

It’s a falling-blocks-down-a-well puzzle game that plays exactly like Wario’s Woods, except not near as good.  Man, I played a lot of Wario’s Woods on the SNES when I was in college!

Sennheiser GSP 550 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset

I’ve probably mentioned it before, but back in my Dallas Morning News days, I reviewed more than just games, I reviewed accessories, too.  Like headphones, controllers, memory cards, etc.  This is probably one of the nicer headphones I’ve ever reviewed.  Too bad it’s for PC only.

Spike Volleyball (PS4)

You don’t see too many volleyball video games, and when you do, it’s mostly beach volleyball.  This one stands out as it’s just indoor volleyball.  It’s not very good, though.  One of my favorite sports games is a volleyball game, though.  It’s Beach Spikers on GameCube.  You can play as Ulala, so you know it can’t be all bad.

And that’s all for now!  Thanks for reading and posting ‘likes’ and comments.  I do appreciate it.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get ready for my date with a circus strongwoman.  APRIL FOOLS AGAIN!

Yeah it'll power you up with sugar!  Most cereals anymore just aren't very good for you.

I'm not surprised Overwatch has cereal these companies need to get to the kids when they're not playing the game. Cereal, snacks, cartoons, heck there are Overwatch Lego sets. I always thought Lego should team up with Fruity Pebbles.

Those are nice Sennheiser headphones. I enjoy the Sennheiser sound and it's a shame that these only work on PC. I know there was a thread on Reddit awhile ago about modding a pair of Sennheiser open backs with a V-Moda mic/cable. I think the mod does is just remove the weird twist lock for Sennheiser cables so you can fit any cable.

Is there an Overwatch cartoon?  Why would LEGO go well with Fruity Pebbles?  I'm not tech savvy enough to hack and mod my headphones.  I just stick them in my ears and that's all I know!

Glad to see you're still doing your thing Cary.  Nice that the movie tie-in games are actually pretty good.  Wasn't always that way.

Yeah I remember the days when movie licensed games would make everyone groan.

It's interesting what they're doing with Lego Movie 2 video game. I'd like to try that one.

Yeah if you liked LEGO Worlds, you might like the LEGO Movie 2 game.
